Went to Alchemist while visiting chester as an anniversary treat with my wife. We stayed at the Grosvenor hotel and I can actually say that food drinks and service we received matched if not surpassed anything the hotel had to offer.

User

Went in for a couple of drinks with my wife to be and it was awesome. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. We hadn’t been in since the change but will be back when possible.

User

Went for the mixology masterclass for my wifes birthday. Very warm welcome from the staff, extremely friendly and chatty. Everything explained perfectly and thoughly enjoyed the free pouring and mixing various cocktails. Had some lunch after which was fairly priced and good service. Yes the cocktails are on the expensive side and i can imagine when its busy could be frustrating waiting but seeing and experiencing what effort goes into the drinks it’s understandable.

User

Went for food and cocktails to celebrate my birthday, had a lovely meal and the cocktails were amazing!! Friendly staff and great place, will definitely go back again!

User

We were stopping in chester for a couple of nights and on the way back to our hotel we saw the alchemist and thought we would just pop in for a drink. We were blown away watching the cocktails being made. Fantastic friendly staff made us very comfortable and good banter.

User

We visited on Saturday night for my birthday meal and it was nothing short of amazing. Our server Eleanor was great and so attentive and is a credit to the place!!! Even gave me a cocktail on them as it was my birthday. When it came to bringing the bill Eleanor informed us that she was using her 'random act of kindness' where she was able to choose a table and gave us 50% off our food!! Brilliant! All in all a really enjoyable experience, we will definitely be visiting again!!

User

Thank you for a great Charity Cocktail Masterclass today. Great service, food & cocktails. Thoroughly enjoyed by all & money raised for 2 great causes.

User

On Saturday 28th July I visited the alchemist in Chester in order to propose to my partner. I made contact with restaurant before hand and the staff there were fantastic and made everything go smoothly. I can’t praise the staff enough as they were attentive and nothing was to much trouble for them. They even arranged for the music to be turned down in order for me to pop the question.

Following the successful proposal we were greated by staff who congratulated us and even gave us a bottle of bubbly on the house. Safe to say that we will now become regulars at this establishment as they made it a night to remember. Thank you all at the alchemist.

User

My son brought me for the first time and I have to say I loved it. Food and drink were exceptional, and the staff were very helpful. Would highly recommend a visit.

User

My partner and I went to Chester yesterday for a day of shopping and afternoon tea. Whilst walking round we noticed the Alchemist. We have been in 2 of the 3 in Manchester so thought we would give it a try. I had a snow joke cocktail and it was amazing. The service was excellent and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be back again soon xx

User

My husband and I, along with our 4 children, visited The Alchemist Chester for the first time yesterday and we absolutely loved it!!

From the minute we walked in we were in awe... the decor is fabulous and to see cocktails being made along the very impressive bar all smoking, fizzing and bubbling was certainly a sight to behold!

Once we were seated in the restaurant the staff wasted no time in entertaining the children with their amazing science themed displays of smoking liquid billowing from conical flasks!! The children were wowed! It was a big hit and a nice way to start our fun afternoon!

We found the menu choices really good... we wanted it all as it's all so tempting but we eventually settled on Tandoori Sea bass Fillet and Moroccan Lamb Rump, both delicious!!

The children's menu was really novel with the food being served in large boxes sectioned into different compartments with various foods including nachos, veggie sticks, fries, beans or peas all accompanying their choice of mini burgers, fish fingers, chicken strips or wraps! Really really good and the children loved it!! Being served and displayed the way it was just made it so much more fun!!

All in all we had a very enjoyable afternoon, the food was delicious and the staff were all really friendly and attentive, the constant supply of fresh water served in glass bottles on the table was a nice touch too. We will definately be back... thank you Alchemist Chester xx

User

Me and my friend went on December 23rd for my birthday and we loved it, service was brilliant, loved our meal and cocktails were amazing. I also unknowingly left my presents there staff kept them and called me quickly to say they were safe! Lovely place with lovely staff xx

User

I've never actually given a review before but the service and quality if the food compelled me to write! Having been lucky enough to eat at some of the best restaraunts in the area the bar is pretty high.

My friend took his girlfriend and kids out and I brought my wife. I didn't realise it was races night and was worried they would be too busy to make it a night to remember- I couldn't have been more wrong!

From the second we sat down we had top quality service and excellent food, very reasonable price for the standard. Special mention to our waitress Rachael for treating us like royalty. Would thoroughly recommend 10/10

User

I had arranged an evening last Saturday for a hen do and I have to say the service and staff were excellent. The bouncers were great - having worked in bars for a number of years I have experienced various issues and complaints about security staff. They were really approachable and entertained our hen do antics. Thank you

User

Great experience. The drinks we had were really nice.... a bit pricey. But would recommend

User

Great cocktail menu! Husband said it was the best Bloody Mary he had ever had. Loved all the querky serving methods, made my son's 18th birthday a real unique treat. Went upstairs for dinner. The food menu was very varied and everything we had was delicious. Even the English leaf tea was served bubbling and smoking. Need to come back and work my way through the cocktails as I was the designated driver last night

User

Good atmosphere and fab cocktails loved it

Would go again and recommend to anyone

User

From California and our family brought us for drinks! Wow never seen anything like it before, everyone enjoyed it! And the prices aren’t bad either :)

User

Food was to die for, cocktails were extremely impressive, staff were great, first visit was well and truly memorable. Made even better by the fact we were given 50% off our food bill because it’s january and we had no idea! Definitely will be returning 👌🏽👌🏽

User

First time for food tonight and will return. Family meal out with 2 children and staff very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and the children's meals were great value for money. Thank you.

User

Fantastic place amazing cocktails service was great Calum really looked after us the food was fantastic we will definitely be back

User

User

Excellent drinks, fantastic service! Will definitely return again!

User

Celebrated birthday night here yesterday. Food spot on, amazing cocktails. Staff were fabulous, very attentive, helpful and welcoming. Special mention to our lovely waitress Megan, she was amazing and made our visit. Staff are a credit to the place

User

6 of us had food yday afternoon... excellent service and very helpful with us all! We all enjoyed the food immensely so visited again this morning for breakfast!

User

Ticked off our list of places to visit in Chester. Arrived about 2.30 which was not too busy & managed to get a seat at the bar which is what we wanted so we could see the bar staff mixing the cocktails. Good service. Good choice of cocktails & left before it got too manic. Would visit again.

User

Quick service, friendly staff, but NO PROSECCO on a Tuesday!?! Why didn’t any staff go and buy some? Plenty of off shops close by. Otherwise happy.

User

Lovely staff, good food and cocktails were great

User

Just popped in for a quick beer and sandwich at lunchtime found it a little slow on the food side but the service was good and with friendly staff. Amazing to watch the cocktail makers mixing various concoctions but I’d hate to see it busy as they take so long. Great for an afternoon break from shopping though

User

Always a great atmosphere not only that but it’s an experience a little pricey so unable to stay long but it’s fun and staff were very friendly.

User

We were staying on the outskirts of Chester & visited here, drinks were really unusual & fun, bar staff good & helpful. Unfortunately we also ordered chicken wings as a quick snack they unfortunately were served undercooked cold & raw in the middle. Luckily we did notice this on the first one, we sent them back & they were replaced, no offer of a reduction or good will gesture when receiving our bill. Bit disappointed, as I really don’t think the staff realised the seriousness if we had of eaten them.

User

We did a Friday afternoon lunch for a friend’s birthday. The place was not very busy so we had excellent attentive service. We got a free cocktail as we were celebrating a birthday. The food was ok. We had a selection of starters but the fish cakes were very small with little sauce and the fish finger sandwich was just normal fish fingers (nothing special) on very dry bread. The bill first didn’t have our 50% January discount but the staff quickly rectified this and apologised. The manager Crispen was lovely and even gave us the recipe for the great dipping sauce that came with the starters.

User

Popped in for a couple of early drinks yesterday afternoon/teatime. I can recommend the ‘Screwball’ it was delicious!! The staff were busy but I got served quickly and the young man who served me was really polite. Would definitely visit again, and I much prefer the Chester Alchemist to Liverpool. Much friendlier atmosphere. 🍹😍

User

In Chester for a couple of nights following our wedding and discovered The Alchemist. Being regulars at The Alchemist in Manchester we decided to give this one a go and have something to eat. The barman showed us to a table at the back next to the glass doors leading out to the smoking area. The waitress came and took our order and offered to help with the cocktail menu. Food came after a short wait and was nice. Unfortunately as we were eating a large rat scuttled past the door! We mentioned this to the waitress who immediately reported this to the manager. He came over to our table and was very apologetic and insisted we didnt pay for our meal. He took my details, telephone number and email address, and said that the operations manager would be in touch next day. This was 4 days ago and as yet I have heard nothing! The place itself is amazing and the staff we encountered were friendly and polite but it would have been nice if the higher levels of staff could have been bothered to acknowledge the problem!

User

We had a table for 17 plus two high chairs booked in for a birthday meal last night. The guy on the downstairs bar was really rude, shouting all the way down the bar ‘what do you want’ I had to shout back to ask if there were any none alcoholic cocktails to which he tried to explain where they were on the menu, he didn’t come to point them out at first and got annoyed that I couldn’t find them amidst all the other drinks on the menu! They weren’t standing out to someone who has never been before and so is unfamiliar with the menu. I waited a while longer whilst he continued to serve someone else. I gave up and went upstairs to the rest of the party. The table wasn’t big enough and we were two spaces short and had to wait for highchairs, 4 of us (including 2 young children) were stood waiting for 10 minutes until we just had to squish everyone together to fit us on. Took ages for someone to take a drinks order. The food really wasn’t up to standard at all! Jerk chicken, rice & peas was literally dry, burnt chicken, dry rice and garden peas. Not at all what you would expect, no authenticity to this dish at all. The kids meals though were actually phenomenal and my daughter loved it. Our bill also came without the 50% January food offer on at first but was quickly rectified. Overall very disappointing and definitely expected a lot more.

User

Very loud (fine if you are just going in for a drink but during our meal I struggled hearing my wife or the waiter), very warm, stuck in a corner. Food was ok but nothing to go crazy about, waiter was very good.

It was a shame because we really enjoy the food and atmosphere in Manchester.

User

My partner came here on Saturday night after the races, he suffers from Crohn’s disease and due to this has blood thinners and suffers from infrequent nose bleeds. He had a nose bleed in the toilets and instead of being checked on for his health he was thrown out and accused of taking cocaine. Absolutely disgusting treatment from your establishment of somebody with a disability. He was forced outside by four bouncers and humiliated in front of the bar, so much so that he didn’t even feel like he could explain the situation. This is appalling treatment of a human being and you should be ashamed. Needless to say to anyone thinking of going here, don’t waste you time or money.

User

Had a porn star martini yesterday. Thought the measure was not acceptable but was told it was standard when I queried it with the barman. Decided to have another and tried a different barman and measure was as I expected and acceptable. My partner then ordered 4 porn star martinis for the table, went to the first barman (who gave what I considered to be an unacceptable measure). I went over but it was too late the barman had started preparing the drinks. The measures were even worse than the first time. We disputed the measures to be told that a half glass is a standard measure. Never have I in all my years been served a porn star martini so poor. Have to say I’m very disappointed. I always feel you pay for what you get but on this occasion I definitely feel I over paid.

User

Avoid!!!!! Poor quality drinks at extortionate prices. We ordered Mojito cocktails which should take a good few mini to make properly. The drink were just thrown together in seconds, with no care or presentation, just a rip off!!!! The guy who served me was quite happy to be seen drinking behind the bar, very professional!!!! He also proceeded to walk along the bar top where glasses and spirits were lined up looking for a spirit. Once finding what was wanted just carried on not even wiping where he had been walking, leaving other bar staff to make drinks where his shoes had been. The bar manager could see this, did nothing. His presentation was scruffy for a supposedly upmarket establishment.with unbelievably greasy hair, unshaven. Looking at him no wondered the standard of the staff. We were really looking forward to a few drinks and were bitterly disappointed. We certainly will not be visiting any of there other bars in the future or recommend them!!!!!
