on Monday we visited around 5ish was told there would be a wait for food Wich wasn't a problem , after we had our starters didn't even seem like we waited a long time but they offered us all a free Round of drinks which I thought was reali good service then our mains came out not long after everyone enjoyed their food , then one of staff offered to take my little girl for a free slice of cake to take home which was fab was a big portion size too , soo would Definatly be back , can't fault the staff !

love too eat here we where in on Friday lovely food always my niece and in laws love it too thay go all the time staff on Friday afternoon so friendly

Went yesterday for my boyfriends birthday with out two daughters and the food was amazing , such good quality for the price and the staff are all lovely too, it was our first visit after wanting to visit for a while and defo won’t be our last x

We went for an anniversary meal tonight it was delicious far too much on the plate well worth the money and the level of service was excellent very friendly and attentive thank you to all involved xxx

We have been here only twice (my daughter recommended) and the food is absolutely gorgeous, we have been in for tea today and I had Cumberland sausage on potato and onion gravy my hubby had the bacon and chicken sandwich with chips. I even had a cheeky double rhubarb and Ginger Gin and lemonade (why not). The first time we went I had the hot beef sandwich and my hubby had the chicken Kiev. Delicious. The staff are so warm and friendly and very helpful. It's our favourite place. Xxxxx

We are prequent visitors to the Alex and always been pleased with whatever we have ordered. Six of us went last night and after we had ordered we were told it would probably be a 40 minute wait as they were busy. All the food we ordered was first class as usual where it might have been expected to be perhaps not as good because they were being rushed. To top things off the waitress then came over and said that due to the long wait we would be given a complementary piece of gateau to take away. Such a lovely gesture and a much appreciated one. Other diners were also given the same treat. Thank you so very much,it was so very appreciated.

Visited for my son's birthday. The staff were very friendly, the steak my son and partner had were huge and my veggie lasagne was gorgeous, home made and very tasty. Will definitely return. Thank you for making my son's birthday extra special with the cake and singing �. Xx

Second time here and will not b our last lovely home cooked food i had chicken kiev it was so tasty massive chicken breast the garlic flowed out wen cut in to and lovely chips the girls are very friendly and prices reasonable but the best selling point of this place is the extensive menu so much to choose from xx

Just been for a family meal and have to say the service from start to finish was brilliant!! Beautiful food which made 5 clean plates � definitely will be back again! Even got 15% off for downloading the app!!

Had the beef lasagne it came with salad and chips could not eat it all ate salad most of the lasagne left the chips quite a lot could not fault the food, will be going again good value for the price �

Had a lovely family meal here tonight,,a table of 16.

Each one of us really enjoyed our meal.

The service was spot on with the meals coming out together and all piping hot.

Would highly recommend.

Had Sunday dinners delivered to work yesterday, made all the staff at Sunderland Emergency Department very happy when working 13hours on a Sunday! Not one complaint from anyone (well apart from the meal being too large to eat!) Well worth the money & would highly recommend. Thanks �

6 of us went on Thursday didn't know what to expect as not been in for ages.

I ordered mussels as a starter and belly pork for main. Oh my you should have seen how many mussels I had unbelievable amount and tasted lovely in the garlic sauce. The belly pork was huge that came with chips (mash wasn't ready) and cabbage with a light gravy lush couldn't finish it all. The others with me loved what they got and where impressed with the portion sizes and the quality of their food. Waitresses/waiter were lovely and helpful. Will defo be back need to try the steak next time

12 of us just been for a birthday meal tonight and it certainly won't be the last time we visit...

There was a great deal to choose from.. to hard actually haha... we had a range of dishes including tomahawk steaks, Texas stack burgers, pasta, pizza and kids meals and of course some delicious desserts ... not a single complaint from any of us... can't wait to come back to work our way through the menu... a sincere thank you for making our night out special....

The reason for the 4 stars was because of the very long wait for our food. The food was amazing and we’ll definitely be returning.

Went here for tea tonight the food was amazing the pulled pork was the best I have ever tasted shame about the service and not getting the chance to sample dessert due to the waitress forgetting we had asked to see a dessert menu and having to wait over half an hour for the mains plates to be cleared. If the service had been better it certainly would have been 5*.

Food was ok. But we waited an easy half hour for our food to come. The waitress had a face and attitude like Wednesday Adam's off the Adam's family. It was poor serves apart from the nice woman who finally brought our food out to us. Also no check back .

Went to the Alex last night for tea with four of my friends it’s not very often we would write a bad review however last night we did nothing but wait about service was extremely slow and the place wasn’t even busy!! Starters took ages to come however was good quality food when it come! Mains then took a much longer wait than usual to come chips were lovely however steak wasn’t the best at all and my friends peppercorn sauce actually tasted of gravy she left her whole meal! We told the waitress we weren’t happy with that particular meal and nothing was said or done! We didn’t bother with deserve due to the amount of time we had waited around!!! Don’t think we will be returning

Table booked for 7 people for 16.30pm. On our arrival we were met by a very rude waitress asking if we had booked , no greeting just shouted at across the room. We ordered 7 drinks to be presented with 6 and had to go and look for the 7th. Our starters came within reasonable time, however it took an hour and a half for the main course. When after an hour and a quarter I asked where the meals were I was informed they were very busy, only 4 tables taken when we sat down. If the staff were also looking after the restaurant why were there only 2 on duty.On arrival of our meals the waitress didn't know which of the 3 steaks were cooked as requested, medium, medium to well done or well done. One of the steaks came with mushrooms and tomatoes which we had asked to be left off. The childs pasta meal arrived with bolognese when it should have been plain tomato sauce, On arrival of the meals we were asked if we would like any sauces, we are still waiting for the ketchup and mustard to arrive! When I went to pay for the meal the waitress explained that she had reduced our bill by 15% for our wait, however when you go on the website you can apply for a 15% discount from your bill so no reduction was actually given. All in all very rude staff, shocking waiting times, meals of low quality, and offers of discount by staff that are given to everyone anyway so no compensation for a very poor night. Will not be going again or recommending anyone else to do so!
