Some good news re the toilets on the Seafront in Minehead. The initial agreement for the Arkade to run the toilets was until the end of September. West Somerset Council have now agreed to extend this until the end of October. We welcome this decision and think the operation of the toilets this summer and been a success for all concerned. We do intend to start discussions to make this arrangement a long term one.

25 years ago today the Carousel change hands, first becoming K's and now The Arkade. Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way.

‘The Arkade’ in Minehead has written to West Somerset Council offering to re - open and operate the seafront toilets that are located below its premises for this summer. The Arkade has offered to maintain and clean the public toilets its expense, while keeping the toilets free to use.
‘The Arkade’ had written to the council in January of this year, offering to enter into negotiations to purchase the toilets with the aim of providing public toilets in the future, but three mo...nths later has yet to have been invited for any discussions.
‘The Arkade’ says:
“After witnessing yet another bank holiday weekend without these public toilets open, we have to act. I understand that West Somerset Council are not able to open the toilets so my business is now offering to do so for them. All it needs is the OK by the people in charge.”
The Arkade is offering, subject to a survey of the electrics and dealing with the water egress, to get the toilets up to standard at its expense and to operate the toilets at its expense with WSC only having to continue to pay for business rates, water and electricity.
“The current situation is prooving to be unacceptable and my business would prefer to pay for the cleaning and maintaining of the toilets then to see the dismay on people’s faces when we tell them that the toilets are closed, particularly on those with young children.”
The Arkade has already arranged to have public liability insurance in place and is ready to take on the toilets immediately with the aim of being open to the public by the May Day bank holiday.
The original letter was sent in January, the offer to run them for this summer has only just been made..

We got a little bit exited at the Arkade yesterday, we had Pinball arrival number 23, followed by 24, then along came number 25, and the day was completed when 26 arrived . Change around almost complete.

After 23 years (we think) the ‘ customer service point’ is history , well in its present form but it is definitely moving .

Execellent selection of machines to go on, not just suitable for kiddies but adults too. Better value for money on the grabbers - we managed to win quite a few bears!

User

Loved the retro pinball machines

User

Great selection of pinball machines although bloomin freezing first week in Feb. Could do with all of them working and not eating the cash though.

Im a bit of a pinball fan owning 2 of my own, so I went to Minehead for a night out and Sunday visit Arkade to have a go on their 20+ machines. They have a serious maintenance problem as I think most of them didn`t work. Was a bit disapointting, I did have fun on the 70`s Bell Fruit Machines though.
