Once named “Hope House” under MP Henry Hope, which attracted the attention of Charles Dickens, the five-star hotel The Athenaeum Hotel and Residences has long been associated with the rich and famous: from charismatic Sally Bulloch having enjoyed a glass of champagne with Elisabeth Taylor back in the 1970s, to legendary film director Steven Spielberg having installed an editing suite in one of the hotel’s residences. #throwbackthursday #athenaeumlife

‘It’s been years since I last visited The Athenaeum Hotel and I really don’t know why I’ve left it so long. It was so long ago in fact that I didn’t even recognise its new guise after its refurbishment back in 2016 and it looks great. From the outside a huge living garden covers the exterior of the wall which follows through into the property. The modern, bright furnishings add a touch of sophistication and the outdoor terrace is a big plus.’ - TheFoodaholic

great food great service perfect lunch
Wonderful food and staff. We had lunch to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and he was delighted when they arrived with a candle and a chocolate slab decorated with happy birthday with his dessert.
Were made very welcome by all the staff and very helpful we will definitely go there again
Went for my sisters 50th, staff were very attentive, afternoon tea was plentiful, was not rushed like most places.
Stayed here for the 3rd time last weekend and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Mayfair Suite which was lovely. We were staying with friends who were upgraded to an apartment in The Residences and it was absolutely stunning. As usual nothing was too much trouble and we truly felt we were returning home! Roll on December when we will visit again for my birthday
My partner and I enjoyed afternoon tea with free flowing fizz yesterday afternoon. The food was lovely and plentiful, especially the smoked salmon on a crisp bread. The sparkling wine was very nice and our glasses were refilled several times. The waiters, Luigi & Michele , were very attentive and friendly and replenished our food whenever we requested additional items. We were even given a box of cake to take home.
Although we felt the room and furnishings were not exactly comfortable, we would certainly go there again. The friendly efficient staff and excellent food made it a memorable experience.
My godmother treated to afternoon tea at the Galvin for my 30th birthday. The food was delicious and plentiful. Staff always asking us if we would like more sandwiches/cakes. They offered us some more cakes to try and brought it out with a candle and chocolate decoration to say happy birthday. This was a really nice touch and both waiters who served us were attentive, polite and lovely! Will be coming back again soon!
My daughter booked me a spa and we visited yesterday. The staff were welcoming, helpful and the service was fantastic along with the spa and treatments. We also used the bar and again the two guys who took our order and who served us were lovely xx Excellent service, Excellent location - Thank you
Lovely pot of Moroccan Tea, in beautiful surroundings 😊
Lovely hotel. And the porter on the door is absolutely fantastic. First impressions count so they picked the right person for that job! Cleaners on the other hand shouldn't be ringing door bells and waking people up and crisps n cola at £3.50 in the room are rather steep
Lovely food, wine and service with a smile. Would recommend it without worry.
Love this hotel it’s so convenient for anywhere you need to go in London and the staff are truly amazing they are all so friendly and welcoming and are so good at remembering who you are, first class definitely 5* John on the door to great you and aveline in the restaurant 😍
I was impressed at the amazing service for the afternoon tea at the Galvin. Both Luigi and Carlo were very attentive, kind and accommodating, so thank you very much. The food was lovely, champagne was great and I got to try two different teas and the jasmine pearl was beautiful. My friend and I were catching up and coupled with the drizzly rain, so we were not in a hurry to leave, but the staff were great and did not hint for us to leave or make us feel uncomfortable even when we were the last ones there. Very sweet, thank you. Will definitely return again 👍🏼💗💜💗
Had a wonderful stay here one night. wasn’t enough great location and lovely room ... friendly welcoming staff especially Jim (the doorman) will hopefully return soon.
Excellent service, unrivalled feeling of being looked after, from choosing a pillow from the menu to unlimited jelly babies we loved our stay and can't wait to return.
Excellent service, friendly & helpful staff. Perfect location, Green Park across the road & the other side of the Park is Buckingham Palace which is a five minute walk away.
Amazing spa and lunch! Every member of staff was relaxed, friendly and very attentive and really added to the overall experience. Would definitely visit again.
Absolutely fantastic hotel! Both couples Were were lucky enough to be upgraded from a standard room to a one bedroom apartment and had the full 5 star treatment.
We will definitely revisit next time we are in london not just because of the service but also the prime positioning!
Was all quite nice but the vegetarian choice was really bad infact the whole menu had two options ! As it was a Birthday gift I didn’t say anything but felt for the location it was poor so little disappointed, also the lavatory had no towels or anything to dry my hands on so I used my jacket so also felt it was poor , I always wanted to go but I don’t think I will recommend or go back .
