The açaí berry (pronounced ah-sah-ee) grows in large clusters at the top of a species of palm tree native only to South and Central America, and is similar in appearance to a red grape or a large blueberry due to its black-purple colouring.

Açaí has an array of complex flavours, consisting of components of dark and red berries similar to a fruity red wine, as well as possessing chocolate overtones. However, the major draw card is its health benefits. Açaí berries are considered one of the world’s top superfoods as they are believed to offer superior nutritional value for the amount of calories they contain. Within the flesh and skin, açaí berries are packed with antioxidants, amino acids, fibre, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals making it a near perfect energising fruit.

The açaí pulp used in our bowls is top quality, 100% pure açaí sourced from the Brazilian Amazon. As açaí berries deteriorate rapidly after harvest, we only use açaí that is picked, pulped and flash frozen on the same day. Additionally, of the three grades outlined by the Ministry of Agriculture in Brazil, we only use the highest grade (“especial”) açaí pulp available.
