About The Backhouse
Situated in West Bank Park in York is the original site of the world famous James Backhouse Nurseries. It is our mission to restore this historic building.
The Backhouse Description
West Bank Park is a beautiful park, which lies to the West of the city of York. Within the grounds there is a house which was originally the park-keeper’s lodge. In its current condition, it is disused and unloved. However as the only remaining link to the old Backhouse Nurseries, we want to transform the building into a Centre which will house an educational, heritage and exhibition space along with a café to be enjoyed by all of the community.
