The Barnstaple Hotel

Positioned in the market as one level up from Premier Inn. Initial poor impression from the outside to the lack of a lift, shabby staircase and narrow corridors in need of newcarpets and fresh paint. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the swimming pool very good, bar and dining all good. The self service cooked breakfast was the best I have had at a hotel in years - with a chef present all the time.

Stopped there one night room 15 , was very noisy when the central heating came on at 5.00 am , also from room above so avoid this room.
The room it self was clean & nice.
Food very good, also had indoor and out door pool.
If you want to be up at 5.00 am Hotel for you, management was going to ring me , but never heard a word.

Did a great job looking after us at a wedding. Nice food. I wish I had brought my swimming shorts to take a dip in the heated outdoor pool!

We visited as part of stay with family in Devon. Took our two children swimming using the indoor and outdoor pool, both of which are heated and we all had a great time. Facilities are well kept and look newly refurbished, food after was very nice also. Would thoroughly recommend.

Bit of a difficult one for me to review. The actual hotel looks as if it would be the perfect set for a 1970s sitcom, whole place is very dated. No lifts. Parking is ample though. I stayed in room number 38, avoid this one if you can, TV was on the blink, but was swapped reasonably quickly. Hardly any power sockets & actually none by bed.

Now here's where I get stumped, the restaurant is actually excellent, one of the best eateries I have eaten at in 2017. The lamb for the main was fantastic & the white chocolate cheesecake was superb. Brekkie in the morning did not disappoint either, it was great.

In conclusion, avoid room 38, only stay here if your a fan of Fawlty Towers, but make sure you come & eat here, the food & staff are excellent.

I am a member of the gym and swimming pool, which I use once a week. The changing rooms are very swish and clean. The gym is well equipped and the pool is lovely and warm. There is a bar at side of pool to get hot and cold drinks and lunch. I love it here.

Went swimming with my to youngest girls. Nice and warm. Changing rooms very nice now updated

Staff very friendly and sociable. The reception is a bit dated but the rooms are very modern and comfortable. Pool was good for children. The meals were brilliant especially the lamb!

From the outside it doesn't look like much, however the food was some of the best I have ever had, the staff were polite and well presented. The meals where delivered in a timely manner. The rooms were well presented and clean.
