Very homely atmosphere. Staff were very freindly and welcoming. I decided to go for 3 courses and a couple of pints. Food came promptly. And was absolutely delicious. Very well presented and cooked to perfection. When im down this way again. I would consider bringing my family.

Part of the Vintage Inns chain so you know what to expect. Old building with plenty of character. Good service by the staff

When you can actually find something on the menu that's available, it's not cooked particularly well and you end up waiting an age for it to appear. When my meal finally did arrive, it was already starting to get cold. But at least that gave me time to clean my dirty cutlery. The waiting staff are nice but they look so unhappy, and after hearing the manager swear at one of them I can understand why. Poor girl looked so upset, and she didn't even do anything wrong. Above all it's the managers that let this place down. They're rude, aggressive and don't think any of their customers have a right to complain, either in person or by negative review. I will return here once it's under new management as the building is charming and a perfect location for me. But while the current management remain I wouldn't eat here if it was free.

Has improved a lot since last year. You can adapt the menu from reasonable "pub grub" to almost fine dining at a good price.
Friendly and helpful staff - we enjoyed some great banter with our waitress.
Good range of quality drinks.

Called in Sunday lunch time for a drink and to check the place out for dinning. Very impressed with the young barman who was very helpful and courteous and booked us a table for that evening. We arrived and shown to our table and drinks duly ordered, quite a wait for drinks but we weren't in a peticular rush we were of course holidaying in the area and in fact staying next door. Our order for meals was taken I chose steak medium rare and my wife was happy to go with Sunday roast. Enjoying our drinks and our food arrived, looked very tasty but unfortunately my steak not cooked to my request. Steak was more well done than rare, I did eat the meal so as not to keep my wife waiting for me to order a replacement. Give credit where credit due the waitress was apologetic and later returned to say the meal would not appear on the final bill. To make up for it we ordered apple pie and custard with 2 spoons looking forward to this being a favourite of mine. We waited and waited for over 25 minutes for it to arrive, poor show all round I'm afraid, could do a lot better, Long day for everyone but don't let yourselves down with silly excuses and poor service. Our 1 and only visit to this establishment and thankfully there are other eateries close by happy to take our money and give could prompt and friendly service.

Great food and service. All staff walking past on the way to the kitchen acknowledged us ( only waiting to be seated for a few minutes). Heather, our designated waitress - very friendly and helpful. All round great experience - shame it's so far from home.

Steak was chewy and grissly. Burger was nondescript. Bread starter sharing platter had 4 thin slices of very average bread. Lost count of the number of times the waiting staff passed our table without removing the dirty plates. Would have complained about the poor quality of food but nobody paid us the slightest bit of notice. We left with plates still there. You really don't get what you paid for in this place.

Nice, cosy pub. Part of the Vintage Inns chain. Service always slow and food is a gamble... sometimes great, sometimes lacklustre. We enjoy it 6 times out of 10. We return more often than we should... but it's our local.
