The Big Issue

About The Big Issue

The Big Issue is a weekly current affairs and entertainment magazine sold by homeless or vulnerably housed people. It offers a hand up, not a hand out.

The Big Issue Description

All vendors receive training, sign a code of conduct and can be identified by photo IDs.

The Big Issue was set up in 1991 to provide homeless and vulnerably housed people with the opportunity to earn a legitimate income.

Becoming housed is only the first step on the journey away from the streets, so we allow vendors to continue selling the magazine once they have found accommodation.

Big Issue vendors are working, not begging, so if you pay for a magazine please take it.

This has become my favourite magazine fed up with all the shallow women's mags. This I always read from cover to cover.

Try it!

The vendors are always polite, ready to help and full of wisdom. Big Shout out to Lola, from Romania outside M&S Leicester, PIP, who used to be at New Walk Leicester and Mark at Churchgate. They are friends as well as vendors and are so kind to my disabled sister, who loves them.

Like Leicester City winning the Premiership and a stray cat making a homeless man a millionaire dreams come true

God Bless you all xxx

The Big Issue is amazing, it has surprised me not only with the support to me and many other artists, but with the relaxed happy to help attitude whenever I email or phone for help. The magazine is always brilliantly written, always interesting, always supported by so many celebrities. The big issue never slacks off, and has organised events for people who are benefiting with their support. I went to an event for the street artists, where I met all the other artists as well as the artist Charming Baker, and we all got to have a look at a working printing studio and gallery. The Big Issue is fast becoming one of the best things to come out of the 20th and 21st Century!

The Big Issue brings home truth and realism to journalism that tells the truth. The magazine is always high on my lists of reads

Sad to hear people are complaining about Bryan from Richmond, N. Yorks...he is cheerful, polite and friendly and never takes offence if people dont buy 'the big issue' - leave the poor lad alone and let him cheer everyone up with his witty comments!

User

I have always bought The Big Issue when I had the cash to do so. This magazine is not only worth reading from cover to cover, but it is a long term solid help for homeless people. Highlighting the issue and helping people gain some semblance of control of their situation.

I will always support groups of normal people helping normal people. We are all PEOPLE and we have the means to make things better for our fellow people 💜

Help our own homeless. Please LIKE this post if you would like to help.

I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who replied to my post earlier on today offering to help the three Scottish homeless guys and their little dog who beg outside at the entrance to Partick train station/subway. If anyone knows of a safe place that these three men can put a tent up and be safe then please let me know. It also has to be close to toilets so that they can use the toilet and get a wash. If anyone can help by donating the items below please donate it directly to them. That way you know they're getting them. Please place all items in bags so that they can carry them. If anyone has a clean old caravan that is in a safe location that they can live in please let me know. Thank you to my friends Marion and Gordon White at fatBuzz for donating dog food for the little dog.

Bryan is cheerful, never over assertive, loud or disruptive. He makes me smile and is polite and happy even if I don't need a copy of the big issue that day.

A first class weekly read sold by the best people in the world - the Big Issue vendors. Magazine contains quality thought provoking pieces every week with a dose of attitude and thirst for change.

Sad to hear that Bryan Whiting, our much loved vendor in Richmond North Yorkshire, has had a few complaints about 'shouting out'. He is there come rain or shine with a smile. So c'mon folks let's get a little perspective in these sad times, get back to hearing 'buy one get nothing free' (except a laugh) & give Bryan his voice back.....please :)

My contribution to big issued on the caption. Are men naturally polygamous.

Seun is almost right. There are some mistakes or misup both the debaters dont understand. According to the law of nature. Men are naturally polygamous. Why becos naturally men on the surface of the earth divided into three, we Causoid, Mongloid, Negro. Naturally Causoid are weak when it get to sex, Mongloid and Negroid are very strong when and it gets sex. In the African context Men naturally have high urge for sex. So they prefare bring those women, rather than going about as we have this day. So it applied to The Mongloid. The white that brought one man one wife go out to cheat on their on their spouses especially women becos they have more sexual urge than the men. Majority of men produce more adrenaline than the women so is the situation. So, Men are polygamists. Is religion that is curbing some men. Many men also go masturbating. Which is a sin in the eyes of God. Why do we have so many diseases around us today. That's the big issue.

User

Big issue I bought a inspiration issue that taught me about Mr Scruff when times were good and left the vendor a can of Stella and a tip. I was on 2mg of risperodone and feeling good. Now eight years later I have been sacked from my job at CPI Antony Rowe and would like a relaxed job in the print industry away from wino's crew gangsters. I am just about capable of feeding in although at a relaxed pace could do the other end of the line. I do not want any money I want something to take me away from my demons. CPI Antony Rowe was my demon. Give a brother a chance Bournemouth vendor. Xx

User

I'm concerned at the 'threat' (hopefully too strong a word) of big John the shawlands, Glasgow vendor losing his pitch due to not meeting quota sales, I had no idea these targets were in place. Johns a lovely big guy who has suffered some bad breaks of late and is a trustworthy, friendly man. If this is indeed the case please reconsider his position, he is an integral part of shawlands life now.

User

My Big Issue with the Big Issue is that it seems to be driven by political issues. I'm apolitical myself, but can't see why anyone who is anything but Labour would buy it. If the paper were party neutral you'd get love loads more followed. But then I've not it for a while because you're so leftist.

User

I think it's disgusting I've got the vile woman in the doorway at my local co-op who is harassing customers

Begging some times she may sell the big issue but Most of the time she just begs..

She is apart of about 3 to 4 Romanian women begging for a living they take turns and collecting money from each other then carried on..

I know there's lots of decent people that sell the big issue but keep your eye on the ones that abusing the system..

Get rid of the disgusting vile woman..ASAP..
