About The Bishop Vesey

The Bishop Vesey - JD Wetherspoon Pub

The Bishop Vesey Description

This Wetherspoon pub opened on 17th December 1997 and is named after John Vesey, a leading 16th-century bishop and Sutton Coldfield's greatest benefactor. The building stands on Boldmere Road, which takes its name from a marshy pool, or mere. It was built in 1931 opposite the old Gate Inn, and housed a builders' merchants and joinery works for several decades.

We go to the Bishop Vesey on a regular basis.

Service is always good and quick.

Shame they disposed of the sofas.

We had a light lunch. Chicken teriyaki is very good and tasty. Good varied menu.

The "Vesey" has over the years become a wonderful community pub which is quite rare for a Wetherspoons. I always feel at home just popping in for a pint or meeting friends any time of the day. The food and beer is always great quality and good value for money. The only drawback is when you travel anywhere you tend to think everything is overpriced and of inferior quality. Thank you to all that work there 🙂

The Camra awards every year are well deserved. Hope it never changes.

Manager Siobhan and the team are fantastic! We recently worked on a stall for the Boldmere Festival and I can honestly say when we went in everybody was lovely, the pub was packed and Siobhan and the team did a great job in spite of the heat (and a lot of customers!) She and the team coped brilliantly in what I can only imagine were very difficult situations with people drinking from very early on in the day! We saw a few of casualties of this and it was obvious that the staff were working hard to try and keep people happy, and everybody safe. Great pub, and great job guys x

A nice boozer. Nice and relaxed. Good food and well kept beer. Sutton Coldfield is a nice town. I’m from London and I try to stay there when I work in brum.

Love this pub and the new roof top bar is lovely . Food was also really good

User

It's a pub. It serves alcohol if you are thirsty and food if you are hungry. It has toilets if you need that sort of thing. What more can I say?

User

It is a lovely pub but I wouldn't recommend the food not very nice.

Service was slow even for a Saturday. Waited almost 15 minutes the first time we were being served and then switched to table service for speed. The last order we waited 25 minutes before I had to go to the bar to find our order and didn't get an apology.

I have been a regular here for 3 years. Some thug started on me at the bar when I was having a relaxing evening with my family (including my 7 year old daughter). Him and his mates were allowed to be able to continue with their threatening behaviour! I ended up having to leave with my little girl sobbing because she witnessed how I was treated by a gang of men! I will never be stepping foot in this place again after how management handled this situation as I was told "if they witnessed anything from either parties again we would all be asked to leave". I had done nothing wrong, all the staff know my face and decided to still say this in front of my 7 year old daughter!!

Have visited here a few times whilst visting family in Sutton. Never had an issue with it till tonight. Witnessed a real 'thug' at the bar pushing a woman out of the way and giving her verbal as he wanted to be served 1st. Staff did nothing, allowed it to happen without saying anything to him. Us guys wanted to take him out until the wimps called security turned. What a joke this place is, dont look after the decent customers, let the scum come in and try and take over without stepping in and defending the poor woman who had done nothing wrong...disgrace.

Food was lovely , although they did make a error with the food and chose to argue with me that the kitchen was not told , my daughter didn't get her meal until we had eaten all ours and it was her birthday celebration which was now ruined. Bar service was very slow served five customers who arrived after us before us so we waited 15 minutes to be served it then took the girl 15 minutes to input our order as she couldn't find what she wanted on the till . To be fair I feel we should have been compensated but could not be bothered to ask as most the staff are really rude!!!

considering im a waitress myself, the rudeness of some waitresses is ridiculous! i say 'the customer is always right', even when they are not. Today i was told that i was not aloud to eat in the vesey without ID of being 16+. i showed the waitress a 16-18 bus pass photo ID card (which you cant buy without actually being 16+) and was told that 'isnt good enough proof' to sit and eat my food with a glass of lemonade. i simply asked why i need ID to eat food and how i was only ordering lemonade, however i got the reply of 'we can keep running round in circles with your point mate' which i wasn't expecting to be said to me by a member of staff. also to be constantly stared at by the same waitress when eating my food was very off putting. the only bright side of this was how nice the food is but i am very unhappy how this situation played out and could of been delt with more professionally

User

awful steak today after waiting ages. Clearly don't know the difference between rare and medium. Very chewy and didn't check back on us, so by the time someone appeared for mum to complain to I had eaten my food so mum went without. kids jacket potatoe looked like it had come out of the bin. They then had the audacity to only refund some of the price because apparently the 'free drink' isn't actually free.

Won't bother again. Been a few times and food is awful and the staff are an absolute joke. Only a few seem to understand what customer service means.

Good job the drinks are cheap cause it wouldn't survive otherwise!!!

User

Went in for breakfast Saturday morning stood at the bar for over 10 minutes while the staff served all customers bar us one customer even said I think they was first and staff still rudely ignored us so at that point walked out shocking customer service
