We had a lovely evening at the botanist in Birmingham, celebrating motherā€™s day, we started with cocktails at the bar and then went through to dine, a lovely experience once again, having tried two other botanists previously! Our waitress was lovely too. Also enjoyed a complimentary gin and box of biccies to celebrate motherā€™s day, I felt like a very special lady. Thank you

User

We came to the botanist for my hen day had a cocktail making class Saturday afternoon for me and my 10 hens and it was amazing! The cocktails were so tasty, the garden room was lovely and George (aka ron) is a credit to you he was the perfect host! Everyone commented how good it was and we all had a brilliant (and quite tipsy) afternoon!

User

Lovely staff. Great choice of Gin. Had Elephant gin and tonic. Well made with peppercorns and ginger slices. (A slice of peach would be good with that too.) Nice ambience and venue. Hope to return and eat on another trip. Well done all. Keep it up.

User

User

Itā€™s always my fave place by far to visit when I go to Birmingham with my partner Craig . Canā€™t fault anything about the place

User

Great cocktail masterclass. Even the power cut half way through did not deter our host George, had a great time thoroughly recommend.

User

Excellent food - loved the creamy garlic mushrooms! They gave my twin and I a complimentary glass of bubbles as it was our birthday, very thoughtful. The staff are very friendly too. Thank you x

User

quirky place to go for food & drink, food was amazing! šŸ˜‹ cocktails tho wasnā€™t the best hence why never gave 5 stars they look fab but wasnā€™t much alcohol in them if any! Even after a few didnā€™t even feel like Iā€™d had a drink & at Ā£8 a Pop Iā€™d expect a bit of a kick at least! Had live singer playing while eating which was great too, would def visit again even if just for the food! I had the hanging chicken kebab would definitely recommend šŸ˜Š

User

We went here on Saturday night and have to say we had a lovely time. We were slightly late arriving due to traffic on the m6 so I was panicking about the table but the staff assured me not to worry as it would be fine. Excellent service from the staff, cocktails are interesting so we had lots of fun trying them. Food is lovely, very filling and presented well. I had the hanging Kebabs and the only thing I would have preferred was 2 kebabs and less chips but thatā€™s just my opinion. Great atmosphere in there. The only negative I would say would be the seating. We were sat on a bench which is fine but some cushioning on the benches would be nice as it can be a bit hard on your bum but apart from that we had a lovely night.

User

Me and a friend came here before the theatre, we both had hanging kebabs (1chicken 1pork) both were delicious, as was the halloumi side! Cannot fault the food at all. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because we asked for the bill when it came we asked for a card machine to pay and no one came back so 15 minutes later were still waiting and concerned about time so got up to leave and to find someone to pay 2 staff members later we paid the bill. Just seemed a bit unorganised and a lack of communication.

User

Love this place quirky decor, great food and interesting cocktails even the non alcoholic ones. Could do with making the gluten free menu clearer or even include GF on main menus!!

User

Been here for drinks a few times and really enjoy it. I came last night for food. Loved hanging kebabs the only issue was there was mushrooms on the kebabs and I have allergies. Because this wasn't stated on the menu they took it off my bill which I'm greatfull for. The deserts were lush. Thanks šŸ˜Š

User

Amazing cocktails but no one was there to seat us or even let us know if there was any available seating so instead of having a meal, like we hoped, we just had a drink each and left.

User

Weā€™ve been a many good times and had a fabulous time . But on Friday the atmosphere was not good , took a long time to ordering food... drinks took even longer and the food wasnā€™t itā€™s best which is a shame because we also go here . Perhaps need a change now ..

User

We were dining with friends and our kids yesterday afternoon.

We had a couple of issues during our meal, one of which I did communicate to the staff. As our waitress changed as soon as I made my point, Iā€™m unsure exactly how seriously our complaint was taken.

We booked mainly because it SEEMED to be a gluten free friendly restaurant as they have a gluten free menu online. On arrival, the gluten free menu I asked for was actually a two millimetre print allergen information list which the chef uses (in a much brighter light than the restaurant so it can be slightly more visible to them). The waitress saw no problem in this even although according to this I couldnā€™t have a Sunday roast she said I could, but without a couple of items. This conflicted with the information on the allergen information list given to me. I then referred to their online menu on my phone to see if there could be further clarity there. I finally managed to order chicken and chips. When it came to desert, I referred to the online menu again. I was told the gluten free pineapple desert wasnā€™t in fact gluten free as stated on the website and had ice cream instead.

The restaurant have a dairy free menu and a vegan menu. When they are clearly intelligent enough to realise they need to deal with dietary/allergen requirements, I donā€™t understand why they feel the need to alienate customers who are gluten intolerant. I always feel so anxious before eating out and relieved when I check online and see they cater for my needs. In this instance, so conflicting and therefore even more disappointing.

Our other issue was the blue jelly in the kids desert. It looked really cool but had no flavour whatsoever. Not sure if this was an oversight by the person making it or this is how they serve it?

The second waitress who served us was attentive and amazing when our son decided to run into a door frame, she got him an ice pack and managed to make him smile.

I would just warn anyone who needs to avoid gluten, itā€™s a bit of a challenge to order! Very annoying when all they need to do is go to the effort of printing out a menu which is gluten free after adjusting it to be the correct information on their website. I was told ā€œhead office wonā€™t allow usā€. Time for the manager to take ownership of this one to avoid making anymore customers feel as angry, upset, frustrated and embarrassed as I was yesterday.

Popped in earlier today I am afraid it wasnā€™t great. To be fair the food was good but the service was awful. We arrived it was not at all busy but the server tried to squeeze us into a table which we just couldnā€™t fit in she could see we were clearly struggling but at no point offered another table she just stood there. I asked for another table it was so bad that the couple on the next table got up and left so we could squeeze in to our table luckily they were about to leave not sure who was more mortified me Or them. Then we waited and waited and waited for our food it took an hour and ten minutes for it to arrive we were just about to leave. Once it came it was of good quality but not overall a good experience was bored by time I had my main so ditched the desert spoilt my experience Iā€™m afraid funny the bill didnā€™t take long to arrive tho ! Attention to detail is lacking Oh and my husband had his wine served in a dirty glass

As much as we all loved our food here the weekend, the whole experience was ruined by our discomfort at the picnic table we were sat at. Two members of our party of six were pregnant and unfortunately the backless bench seats with no cushions made us all hurry to leave after our meals, beautiful place, beautiful food but if customers are not comfortable they will not stay to continue drinking and spending in the establishment...

The baked camembert on crusty sour dough was superb - just wish I could say the same about the rest of my experience.

This was a birthday outing for 3 on Sunday 11th March and the place was very busy, as to be expected on Mother's Day.

Two Sunday roasts and one Paella ordered. Paella arrived some time after the roasts and the rice was undercooked and crunchy. Difficult to gain the waitress's attention but, fair play, a replacement was offered and I accepted a recommendation of the Salt'n'Pepper pork belly kebab.

After giving a reminder to a different waitress (we learned later by asking that there was a shift change halfway through our meal), the pork kebab finally arrived after the roasts were well finished, so I had to eat my meal by myself. The 'properly seasoned' chips seemed nothing more than skin-on frozen fries, so nothing really to write home about, and the meat comprised 5 or 6 cubes of grilled belly pork - not bad, not great, but a lonely experience nonetheless.

It took further time to attract someone's attention to get the bill and it still had the paella on it, which was removed by the third waitress.

At no time did the manager come over to apologise for the poor cooking of the first meal, to mention a shift change or for the delays I experienced.

The person on the front desk did manage to turn down the blaring music when requested, which at least was a blessing.

Overall, then, having had the excellent camembert and a spectacular cocktail, the rest of the event was entirely underwhelming. The youngest member of the party, whose birthday it was, likes the place and will go back - perhaps she is the less discerning target demographic, but in spite of that camembert, I would not wish to repeat my time there.

User

Not one of my better experiences here. We arrived 25 mins early so had a drink in the bar but did check in before that so the staff knew we had arrived. Had to ask if our table was ready at our allotted time as sure they had forgotten about us. I asked and table was ready immediately. Waiting an hour for our food after order was taken. We had puddings, ordered choc fondat to share, but staff had brought chocolate pot instead so had to wait longer for the fondat and chocolate was cold. I questioned the incorrect pudding being on our bill and they took it off and the fondat also. Just think attention to detail was missing yday.
