We had a table for eight, fantastic service and food can't fault it, we had a birthday cake which they put in the kitchen an when they brought it out the candles where lit !!! Great place would recommend for sure.

We eat here regularly, as I think their Haddock and Chips are probably the best in town, and my husband just can't get enough of the Steak and Merlot pie.

The atmosphere is relaxed, without loud musac or freezing air-conditioning.

The staff are it's greatest asset; pleasant, approachable, attentive without being pushy and seem genuinely interested in their customers.

All round, I genuinely can't fault it.

Stayed at the adjoining Premier Inn Harmer Hill and paid for the meal deal which made it very good value. Lovely breakfast and evening meal.

Lovely restaurant/pub. Very attentive staff and lovely seating arrangements. Lovely food and perfectly cooked. The breakfast is lush (we were staying at the Premier Inn) and excellent choice. To be recommended. Love the doggie pics around the place and the alpacas in the field next to Arms/Premier Inn. Lovely location too. Thank you. Xx

Decided to go for tea with the family so Popped in there just on the off chance of gettin a table. Was quiet busy but still got served straight away by friendly staff, Steve & team that showed us straight to a table. Drinks orders were taken as we were seated. Once they came to the table the food order was taken. There wasn't much of a wait on the food and it was of good quality. The kids enjoyed their meals (from the kids menus) and my partner and I had a 2 course meal. Both our meals were very good.

User

Went here as we had a 40% off voucher, which actually made it very good value; it wouldn't have been otherwise.

It was busy when we visited, however even considering that, the service, particularly for drinks, was quite slow. I suspect it would have been quicker to go to the bar myself.

Food was excellent and staff friendly, would have been 5* but for the slow service

User

Nice food but very slow service you can see the servers on were doing their best but obviously short staffed which meant they couldn’t handle the amount of incoming custom.

User

My main course came before my starter but my main course was very nice thank you

Went for a birthday meal, just me and my husband. Usually we meet our daughter and son on law as they life in Shrewsbury and we live in Telford so nice for us all. Until now we have had a faultless experience but last night was abysmal, we stood at an abandoned bar for 10 minutes at 17:15. We then went to find a member of staff who told us to choose a table, which we did. A whole 24 minutes later we had a drinks and food order taken despite other diners, who arrived 20 minutes after us, being served first. Just hugely let down by the service, food was outstanding as we're accustomed to, restaurant wasn't particularly busy so must assume they were short staffed? Shame as it was hubbys birthday so supposed to be special, might be more disappointment attached to that?

Living in Scotland, I am only occasional visitor to the Bridgewater Arms when visiting family in the area. Previous experiences have been great, however, last night I felt the service was particularly slow on our arrival. We were acknowledged by the server as we walked in but sat for ages before someone actually came over to the table. After ordering, again we sat for ages before the food arrived. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy so was it adequately staffed? The food was fine however. Will I be back? Probably - because it's convenient for our needs.

Come here a lot with it being the local. We have never experienced bad service.

It dawned on me last night that they are charging bistro price and certainly last night the food and drink didn't match it, therefore I have knock a star off for the drink, which I order a mojito, and maybe i didn't ready the menu, it certain wasn't like the Cuban classic, was rather sweet and I could not detect any lime, of course this is a matter of opinion as I know my mum loves the sweet ready to drink tin sold in cans in supermarkets, which to me have no resemblance to the classic.

And the food I also knocked a star off for. We both ordered the double steak stacker burger and blue cheese burger. The burger was nice and meaty, but really that was all you got for £10.40. There was may 1/4 of a tea spoon of blue cheese and that's me being kind, and sparse spread of fries. Maybe they had detected we were on a diet but after 24,000 steps that day we had earned our blue cheese burger.

We will of course be back. But when you compare the burger and price of it to the lions den in shrewsbury it's clear the Bridgewater isn't the best value for money.

User

Took ages for food to arrive, when it did it was cold chips, overcooked gammon, hardboiled eggs, hard lasagne, sorry but not nice 2nd time we've been and last time was the same, won't be a third time.

I booked a table for 4 for 1pm as a "treat" for a family 30th birthday yesterday. When we arrived there was some discussion as to where to seat us and the table chosen did not have reserved on it (a nearby table which was not occupied during our stay) was. The young lady who took our drinks order was very pleasant. Three of us had Sunday lunch. When the beef meals arrived the food was not hot, beef was rather tough and indeed had no taste. We were not visited again to clear the plates, ask if we were satisfied with food or if we wanted a desert so at 2pm or so, we paid and left. Very disappointing. I had not been there for some time and nothing made me want to return.

User

Eaten here several times before and always excellent, however the same cannot be said of last night. My husbands med/rare steak was brought out so well done it was cremated. Although they said no issue with replacing the steak this replacement came after we had all finished our main course. I had the risotto which was very bland. Over all a sad disappointment from what we are used to. Hopefully a one off! Still reasonable price but not a night to be repeated as it put a dampener on our night.

User

Very very slow , 5 of us ,bit of a mix up on ordering ,poor waitress came back numerous times . They hadn’t got this hadn’t got that ?.2 Lasagne we’re so dry had to be returned .we then ordered 2 burgers which were also dry we could nt finish meal so we’re very disappointed . No discount not even a complimentry drink . We were there over 2 hrs

User

This used to be such a lovely place that we would come to regularly but now we will not be returning.

We arrived early for our table and were seated straight away (as it wasn't busy) however we were not offered drinks. We eventually went to the bar to get them ourselves. It took 20mins plus for our food order to be taken, a further 30min to receive our cold starters and then we never received our mains because after waiting another 1hr 20mins without any acknowledgment from the staff we decided to cancel our food order and leave. The lack of customer service was appalling, it wasn't busy when arrived and only a few other tables were filled during the time we were there. People who arrived after us were more well attended too and often received there food before us. I have never seen my nan so disappointed and upset as it was meant to be a family treat. Such ashame because this isn't the first time that the service has been that bad there and we gave the place a second chance as we have been coming since we were children. Never again.

User

Such a shame, this used to be a lovely place. Our meals served before our cutlery and when we asked go told to go get it our selves in quite a rude way.

My peppercorn sauce was forgotten and by the time I got it I had 4 chips left. When I asked what I was expected to do with it the reply was “dip your chips in it, I don’t know I was just told to bring it’.

The food is also nowhere near the quality that it used to be when I lived in the village a few years ago. Don’t waste your time driving here. There are budget pubs in Shrewsbury offering the same low quality food and portion size. Nothing about this visit was worth the drive. Food is budget standard unlike a few years ago, staff have no pride in the place or customer care skills, the kitchen can’t follow basic instructions.

User

Sat my partner, my 3 yr old, my baby and myself down in an empty area, told us they would come back with menus.... didn’t get asked what drinks we wanted. half an hr later we were still waiting. People that sat down after us got served and acknowledged before we did. So we left.

User

Poor service last night. Took 75 minutes to bring out starters during which time others had come in, ordered, eaten and left. Had to ask what was going on as no initiative from staff. When the food eventually came out, was nothing to shout about. Dry, over cooked to the point of burnt and very bland. Customer service pretty atrocious and food not much better. Gone down so much lately it's sad to see. Won't be heading back any time soon unfortunately.
