When you go to watch a concert you're usually a fan of the act you're going to see, you know their style and music and you usually get pretty much what you expected.

Last night I went to see Rhiannon Giddens at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester not really knowing too much about her music, I'd heard a couple of Carolina Chocolate Drops songs a while ago and of course I'd seen her in the TV series Nashville, but none of that prepared me for the sheer brilliance of this lady.

From the first second she stepped on stage you couldn't take your eyes off her, she dazzled in everything she did, playing, singing, dancing or just speaking to you explaining where the songs came from and what they were about.

She performed all types of songs, old negro blues, gospel, Cajun songs and tunes (Sung in Creole), sung in French and even sung in Gaelic, she played superbly (Fiddle, Guitar & Banjo) and sang magnificently.

I am now a huge fan and would heartily recommend seeing her live if you ever get a chance, she is magnificent.

We went to the 80's mix tape concert - such an amazing night full of great songs and lots of singing - please plan this in for next year!!

My wife and I went to see George Benson at The Bridgewater Hall this week , a great venue , we were in the circle great seats with loads of legroom , reasonably priced drinks and friendly staff , excellent sound quality also , I notice that there have been some negative comments about the sound quality for some concerts , take it from who knows more than a little about this , it is not the Halls fault it is squarely in the hands of whoever supplies the PA rig and supporting engineers of the act concerned !!!

User

My friends and I wenr to watch Alison Moyet, she was amazing.

This is our first time at Bridgewater Hall (we go to a lot of concerts/shows)

What a beautiful, clean and well set out venue. The sound in there is Amazing.

We were lucky enough to be on the front row, the seats were very comfortable. Already looking to see who else is on there for future shows.

User

My favourite concert venue in the north west. I love the Halle pops series and last night's SciFi celebration was amazing

User

Had a great night seeing Paul Carrack and band...will be making this venue a regular event due to excellent amenities great acoustics and lots of nice places around to eat and drink

User

Great venue. Seats are big (wide) enough for most people with plenty of leg room. Everyone can see the stage without an obstructed view. Well managed and pleasant staff. The only down side was the price of drinks, they cost more than being in Dubai.

User

Gorgeous venue with great artists and shows. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful place right in the heart of Manchester.

User

Bought tickets to see Paul Carrack and also booked a pre concert meal in the Halle room. What a fantastic experience. The meal was fantastic. It cost £27 for three courses. Fabulous food, very attentive staff and we felt very special as it's an intimate restaurant. Then we had front row seats for the concert and Mr Carrack didn't disappoint. Altogether it was awesome. Will certainly book again.

User

Been there several times. Acoustics are excellent (I'm an audio engineer)

If you look around the hall, you will see that their appear to be no parallel surfaces

Also, everywhere is an odd size. This is how they prevent acoustic resonances

One comical downside, the building is absolutely enormous

It makes me dizzy!

User

Awesome customer service today from Paul in the box office. Such a rare treat in this day and age. THANK YOU PAUL!

User

An amazing concert hall with excellent restaurants, food and drink. I have been drawn to this ever since I saw it on Songs of Praise (a video clip is still available)

A review posted on behalf of my mum:

My friend and I spent a glorious afternoon at Johann Strauss gala on Sunday. Lunch in the Halle restaurant was a real treat, staff very professional and attentive and the show!!!! Wonderful !!! One of the best Xmas presents I've had !!!!!

User

Two superb concerts watched on 30/12 and 31/12. The New Years Eve concert has become a regular night for us as it's so good. My only concern with the venue is the heavy use of plastic cups and straws. Everyone was given their drink in plastic-even an hour before the concert when it will have been drunk before going into the hall. Please serve in glass and have plastic at the hall entry for anyone wishing to take the drink in- they can 'transfer' then if needed. Use paper straws? For the sake of the oceans. Please.

User

First time at this venue, watched Brit Floyd and av gotta say the sound is spot on, really enjoyed every minute.

I was driving after the gig so couldn't ava drink so went for a small bottle of water £2.10, yer avin a laff ain't yer.

User

Easy to park near, nice building, expensive drinks, toilets not big enough, sound quality excellent, seating excellent, staff very polite, including security, Brit Floyd you were out of this world!

User

This is a great venue and I like to sit down for a gig these days. I saw Belle and Sebastian last night and the sound was terrible. I was sat near the front and I could hear the drums in particular echoing from the back and it was a real let down. I've seen other 'rock / pop' gigs here where that wasn't an issue so it clearly can be avoided with a bit of effort. Not sure what went wrong last night.

User

The Magic of motown...The sound was awful, could hardly hear the singer's and I was sat in the stalls. We got up to buy a drink and was refused to go back in until the song was finished, they lied and said it was the request of the artists. We spoke to the artists afterwards and said it wasn't their request but Bridgewater hall's At 9.45pm the bar was closed. We couldn't buy Red bull to go with our shot, what bar doesn't sell energy drinks? Even the staff agreed. I personally will not go back to another venue here.

User

Visited for the first time to see the Whitney Houston tribute show. The venue is lovely with a beautiful well seated auditorium. So disappointed that we left after enduring the first half. Now I love loud music but the sound was terrible. Very shrill, with a lot of echo. This was very unpleasant and drowned out the wonderful concert orchestra and singer. I think this was due to the poor speakers and/or mixing. We were seated in the circle - perhaps the stalls would have been better. You can get a better experience listening to a concert recorded live, same artist, same songs, on YouTube. So sorry for having to post such a low rating. Most of the audience seemed to like it though! But, I have heard and read similar comments about the sound.
