Reviews
Afternoon everyone, just to let you all know the bad new that unfortunately the cafe has closed, due to the museum renovations. On the bright side a brand-new cafe from @mancocoltd has opened up on the 3rd floor. Pop by if you fancy any of their excellent tea, coffee or cakes. @mcrmuseum @officialuom @mcrmuseum @teacup_nq #coffee #UoM #newplace #mcr #stormtea #coffeeandcake

Welcome back! We've missed you Manchester, cake?
Treated myself to breakfast here this morning - excellent! Not the cheapest, but definitely the yummiest bacon & egg sarnie I've had in a long while... lots of bacon, TWO fried eggs, tasty bread... and a free refill offered on my tea which sadly I didn't have time for... perhaps next time! :)
Revisited the museum and cafe again today. It was very busy as you'd expect on a weekend but we found seats easily. The food was great and came out quickly. Excellent friendly staff too! We'll be back soon
I just wanted to thank the staff at the museum having visited today. I am on crutches and they could not have been more helpful or kind. We had quick efficient service and the lunch time menu was great. We are visitors to Manchester and if this venue is indicative of what to expect then we will be back. Fantastic, we can definitely recommend the chicken club on bloomer sandwich and thank you to the lovely red headed Emma 10 gold stars for service. Love it
Excellent food. Texan BBQ buttermilk chicken yummy. Chips excellent. Service good. Good prices. Highly recommended.
Amazing food, portions and quality well worth the price!
food was excellent child portion well thought out and good prompt service
Great full English breakfast, one of the best I have had!
Went on a Monday noon. Place was comfortably packed, but staff seemed unable to handle the queue, waited 20 min to place the order.
Halfway through ordering one staff asked the one taking my order about a previous order, they then started discussing it for the next minute or so. I awkwardly stood there watching the two of them. Nothing mentioned beforehand, just a brief 'sorry bout that' after it was over.
Wait for the food was fine, about 10 min. Ordered buttermilk chicken. Crust wasn't crispy and a tad too oily; it turned soggy along the way. Chicken itself was nicely seasoned. Fries were rather nice and crisp, wasn't too oily either. 'Asian slaw' served was not exactly to my taste but not awful either.
No sweetener available, no skimmed milk, no milk jug (came in a paper espresso cup) and a tiny pot of tea that cost £4 and made just under 2 cups. The sourdough toast was nice though, but when you feel you're paying a lot and not getting what you wanted, it leaves an unpleasant taste.
We go to cafes a lot on family days out and and from looking up the menu for The Teacup I was really looking forward to this one. Lots of interesting food choices and eco friendly. The good points were it was decorated well, had a nice feel to the place and we were served quickly despite being relatively busy. However that’s where the good stops.
Bad points were I ordered a “lunch box” for my 11 month old, I took the cheese sandwich out and noticed how dry the bread felt, I then noticed the smell of the gone off cheese. I checked the brown bag it came in and there was a sticker on the brown bag stating it was past its USE BY DATE. I got one of the waitresses attention and she replaced it with a fresh sandwich, she was nice, however there was no apology from her or anyone else for serving my child rotten food which would have certainly given him food poisoning if I had not checked it. My two year old had a chicken meal which seemed good value but it made me really anxious that it was actually all ok to eat. My bread with my soup seemed extremely stale - probably out of date? We paid nearly £30 for our food and drinks for two adults and two small children and left very dissatisfied.
I visited the cafe today and ordered a chicken and chips kids meal. A macaroni cheese kids meal. A fish finger butty (£1 extra for chips) and a side of chips (£3).
The kids chicken and chips was good. Good portion. Chips. Salad. However, the pasta came in what could only be described as a bowl the size of a small teacup. Not enough for a child at all!!
The £3 side of chips also came in the small bowl!! For the price I paid I was disgusted at the portion sizes and that we all left hungry!! Never again!
