🎭 Have you been putting on a smile?
Here's a show that explains, sings and throws glitter about how it's ok to not be ok.
A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad) by Silent Uproar is a hilarious cabaret musical about depression.
... It’s a joyful, buoyant, gleeful, slightly silly, sugar-coated, unrelenting and completely super happy show! Except for all the bits about depression.

🃏 Toby Foster's LAST LAUGH COMEDY CLUB LINE UP
Back in December, Toby had bronchitis so he's raring to go in January bringing 3 of the finest stand-up comedians: Barry Dodds, James Meehan and Joe Rowntree.
Self-confessed comedy geek, Barry Dodds took to the comedy stage at the tender age of 21 and soon had audiences eating out of the palm of his hand. Barry charms audiences with his unique brand of disarming wit and wry, down-to-earth observational humour. Using his own combi...nation of irrepressibly cheeky, and surprisingly dark material, he quickly found himself taking the national comedy circuit by storm.
"Razor sharp humour" Metro
Rising star of the British comedy scene James Meehan who has appeared in shows such as Inside No 9 and Drunk Histories is offbeat, aloof, yet delightfully likeable. He is described as brilliantly unconventional, and refreshingly nonchalant, as a stand-up, James is carving out a niche for himself as a wonderfully quirky presence on the circuit.
"Wonderfully Deadpan" Fest
"Passionate, heartfelt, and very funny" British Comedy Guide
Joe Rowntree started his comedy career in 2001 writing put downs for Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link. The stand-up comedian, actor, writer and presenter has hosted 2 UK tours of Brainiac Live which culminated at the Hammersmith Apollo after appearing in all six series of the award-winning hit Sky 1 show Brainiac: Science Abuse and recently was a huge hit on Dave's One Night Stand.
“He has the unique ability to take a cold room and reduce it to fits of laughter” GQ Magazine

Think you're too old to go to a rave?! Some people say your social life ends when you have children... we say, it's only just begun!
Come along to our family rave in June. https://www.barnsleycivic.co.uk/events/fa mily-rave

User

coming soon... ME & EU
On 23rd June 2016, 51.9% of UK citizens voted to withdraw from the European Union. The weeks following this referendum brought a global sense of division and disconnect as people evaluated their response and as voters of both ‘remain’ and ‘leave’ imagined the possibilities of a post-EU Britain. Me & EU is one such response.

💝 EARLY CHRISTMAS SURPRISE! 💌 We've giving away roughly 175 free tickets today. One to every child that came to today's performance of Jack Frost by Fidget Theatre.
Thanks to all that came to see Jack Frost, we hope you found it a wonderful reminder of the importance of love, friendship and looking after each other. We've found it to be the perfect fit for us as we are always working to be at the heart of the community.
The ticket is for Stella by Filskit Theatre. This is the story of a Star Engineer who lives on the moon. A playful performance with projections and circus talks about our sky and how sometimes it's important to wish upon a star. The play is a co-commission from us and ARC Stockton Arts Centre.

User

it was good. we came to see the popek doggie. and was up and close to lots more pop art. very lovely staff

User

had a great time.. wanted to see the large popek dog which is amazing but the other exhibits were fantastic too and the staff were friendly and helpful

User

We love this venue so much we got married here in 2012! It's beautiful inside, modern while keeping a lot of the old decor features. A real piece of Barnsley's history that we need to cherish. Staff are very helpful and the events, shows and exhibitions we've seen here are all top quality. A must-visit venue.

User

Our 1st time visiting the civic, I never realised it was there until I googled kids events near me. So glad I did as my 3 and 4 yr olds loved it. We will definately be returning for future shows. The venue is spacious and clean, the parking was easy and free (sunday) and it was great value for money.

User

It was my 1st experience of going in the civic to watch my daughter n school friends perform in the opera the magic paintbrush on weds night was a fab night thoroughly enjoyed thank u to all the actors n actresses n ov course barugh green school n Helen Madden for organising it all..u all need big praise was a pleasure to watch x

User

I'm always amazed by the quality of the exhibitions in the Gallery. The Sam Shendi sculptures were so beautiful and so tactile. The latest exhibition was simply splendid. I come over from Huddersfield and meet up with my Writing Group and we use the exhibits to generate new writing. I can thoroughly recommend a visit and you'll want to return again and again!

User

I think it is a great venue. Elevators for ease of access. Great that local art and acts are getting chance to get exposure. Advertising needs attention... a FB page and encourage followers and Twitter and the same - follow and be followed. I think it would be also great for you to embrace the arts in 6th form college, Old Mill College and UCB Art dept end of year shows for free.

User

I remember going to the Civic when I was 15/16 to the dances, they had some fantastic nights their, on some Saturday nights they had groups on that were up and coming bands, such as the Who,kinks, Brian pool and the Tremolos, Small Faces, swinging Blue Jeans,Honeycombs, they had lots more groups on. It was open for Dancing on Saturday's, Monday's.

User

Great venue, great seating, nice vibe. Bar quite good but don't go for a small wine it us small. But looking forward to going to it again had a fab night

User

Five stars for the performer, John Spiers. The music during the interval and after the performance may have been better if it had been of the same genre. Although I do enjoy Tamela Motown and soul, this took me out of the 'folky zone'.

User

Another trip to the Civic, this time to see the upbeat Beatles, music was great and atmosphere was amazing,, very interactive performance brilliant:)

User

Always sonething different at the Civic, and last night's 'panto' was no different. Superb. Well staged, good seating. Can't comment on the bar as we don't usually bother. But really like the place. Looking for the next show. :)

User

We go regularly to see music, stand up and plays and on the whole it is an excellent venue. I do , however, agree that it is far too warm in the auditorium, even Ed Byrne commented on it last night.

User

Saw Stuart Maconie, this is our first venture to the building. Great sound system. Struggled with the seating. My back was in agony, poor support and not a lot of leg room. Enjoyed a great meal at Parker’s before the performance.

User

I remember thecivic in town as a great place to go with your mates when tbe old beer festival used to be there .buy a glass with beer festival on an the year it was an get hammerd on cheap traditional ales.them were the days

User

Had a good night out with the family. Should have better times printed on tickets though. 7:30? Is that doors open or when the show starts? Got there for 7:30, 4 people in the queue at the bar. 1st person in our group got served then we was told the show was starting and they weren't serving anymore people. So some of us had to go in without any drinks

User

First time here, went to see Ed Byrne last night. It's a nice venue, but far too warm inside, we were absolutely sweating. It is a little confusing that there's no time on the tickets for when the doors open, but we ended up in the bar next door until it opened. Overall, a good night.

User

First time at the venue last night to watch Ventoux (well done lads). There's plenty of parking closeby, a small bar that serves beers and coffees and the staff were very polite and helpful..... I'm sure I'll be back.

User

The Ibiza to the Norfolk broads was well done and I enjoyed it but my husband did not .As this was our first time at The Civic I had read reviews.I did notice the smell when entering the building and where the bar area was .It wasn’t a pleasant smell and thank goodness it wasn’t in the theatre .
