We want to know what you want, it is you that eats it, after all!
... So, given the fact that Facebook only gives me the option to list two choices, I'm going to do a few separate polls.

Itโs raining, itโs pouring, the old man is... chopping wood to put on our lovely burner!
If the wind happens to blow you through the welcoming doors of The Clarence (it happens to the best of us), rest assured, we will keep you warm!
This weather can sometimes make us feel a bit... meh. I want to cheer you all up. So Iโm thinking... maybe I should do another competition?? Who agrees? ๐
There to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Lovely meal and friendly accommodating staff. Everything is beautifully presented and portions are generous. Had the steak and chips which was delicious with a peppercorn sauce, washed down with 2 pints of the session ale. Excellent.
Our first time, absolutely loved it, staff welcoming and friendly, food excellent, I had the duck, which was cooked to perfection and presented well. We have been reassured with eating out, definitely going again and highly recommend.
My friend & I popped into The Clarence for a Saturday evening drink and ended up staying for dinner!
The stout was perfect (my pal is a real ale aficionado) and we happily polished off our Beef & Oxtail Suet Pudding with cabbage & mashed potatoes, and the Black Forest Gateau Coupe....which was too much even for me.
The staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful - we got the feeling nothing would be too much trouble.
It may have been a first time visit, but it won't be the last.
My Mum, sister and I were actually looking for a beer garden to have our โMonday Clubโ lunch and kind of stumbled upon The Clarence. We ended up eating indoors (outdoor area isnโt much to speak of) but we all really enjoyed our meals. We ate off the ยฃ13.95 for two courses menu. The food was really tasty and lovingly served.
What impresses me most is service and this was fantastic. We were made to feel very welcome. I had my two young children with me. The staff and other diners alike were really attentive and accepting of their occasional noise and inquisitive ways. We were served quickly and offered side plates to share the food with the children. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. I think this place will become our go to place for eating when we go shopping in Bury. Thank you!
I visit quite regularly and Iโve never ever had a bad experience and never thought it could get better but today it was even better than the last times I have visited which I didnโt think was possible. Amy our waitress went above and beyond and deserves recognition within the company!
Amazing food and great drinks offers available. Accommodates for all witha snug area to bring the dog in.
A great find on Bolton Street. Had an early dinner with my son after spending the day on the railway and wandering in to town to see where looked good to eat. Lovely, interesting meal with good value 2 course menu (FOTD starter and Chinese belly pork both very nice). Kids menu also had some things to appeal to my boy with opportunity to mix and match veg and potato choices. Service good, friendly and unhurried but not a lengthy wait for food. Lemon meringue and black forest sundaes were dreamy! Highly recommended, if I wasn't driving I suspect the beer would have been worth sampling too.
Been here a few times now, the selection and quality of their cask ales is always very good, the building itself is very nicely done, the brewery in the cellar is always a joy to behold, the rooms are very tasteful with a decent clientele, the staff are very friendly and helpful and we always get a cheery greeting on entering, the food menu is nicely proportioned with a manageable amount of dishes available, however being Lancashire I would love to see them have the classic Lancashire hotpot on their menu, no where in town seems to serve it and done correctly this could really become a signatute dish that could consolidate their place even more on the local culinary map, just a thought, however the food quality is usually very good and often well cooked, however, we think the prices are not always commensurate with the food itself, some things can be slightly over priced in our opinion but all things considered you get mostly what you pay for and the Clarence is a very nice place in Bury town centre surrounded by lesser quality pubs and eateries, so it's most definitely the stella pub to eat and drink in this part of town, 8/10.
I have visited The Clarence on many occassions and really loved it. However on Friday 30th March I arranged to take family for their first visit. Not too bothered that Early Bird has gone up ยฃ2. What is shocking is that the portion sizes have halved. The burger buns were hard. Chicken supreme didn't come as described. Whilst most food was tasty it was the size of a children's portion. One meal ordered off full menu the lamb was stone cold and came back tasting awful. No water jugs on tables anymore. We complained and price of lamb knocked off bill but no alternative offered so that person left unfed. After complaining staff were offhand and not very interested. Hope you havn't got complacent and trying to cut coners. In the past its been lovely but many of my family won't be back for a while.
