Well I was a bit dubious from reading the bad reports but I'm pleased to say our stay was lovely .... reception staff very friendly and sllocatated us 2 rooms interconnectiong which again we're very clean and spacious also gave us a off street parking permit so didn't have to pay 😃Bed comfy and all facilities in room spot on ( no trouble checking our dog in either ) bar man lovely nothing was too much trouble ...... excellent hotel would defo go again

User

The staff were friendly and the room was huge and well furnished unfortunately it was very cold but we found extra blankets and quilts and we did stay in the middle if storm Emma with snow and high winds. Hotel is clean even if decor is a bit outdated my biggest complaint is being charged £12 to park my car in the hotel car park considering it was empty anyway.

User

Me and my daughter @[100000041941833:Mandy Cornwell] went to see tom jones at the open air theatre last night we stayed at your hotel it was very clean and tidy the rooms were great we enjoyed it we had nice views surrounding the hotel and will definately come and stay here again and would recommend the hotel to anybody staying in Scarborough thank you for the great quality of the hotel and the brilliant customer services :)

User

Great place to stay. Friendly staff especially mr bar man who always had a smile. Will be staying again, only thing that let the weekend down was the terrible weather of snow and Gale force winds, apart from that, all was brilliant

User

Four of us stayed here for 4 days, the rooms was an extension to the Hotel, very comfortable ,,soft beds two easy chairs, nice bathroom, power shower, and no shortage of very Hot water, lovely little bar, were people soon strike up conversations, breakfast & evening meals are both Buffets,so you can eat as much or as little as you want, plenty of choice of a great variety of foods something to suit everyone,,real value for money,,very quiet at night so your sure of a great nights sleep ,,

This is the second time we've been in the last month the first time we stayed in a family room with our grandchildren the Staff were really nice, the room was clean and a good size, this time was just me hubby and the dog, reception greeting was friendly enough, the room again was clean the bed was harder than the last room we stayed in but other wise ok there was a large sofa in the room in my opinion this room needs to be made into a family room cause of the size, the bar man was very friendly on both occasions ( same one) the restaurant staff also very pleasant and approachable we certainly will be returning the house keeper certainly has standards they need to send him/ her to the Grand and show then how to clean cause that one hasn't got a patch on The Clifton Hotel

however as all the Britannia Hotels We've stayed in they all need updating with the decor they don't appear to spend any money in them

User

Stayed overnight yesterday. The room was a family room with a double bed in one room and 2 single beds in the adjoining room. The room was lovely and clean, with excellent sea views.

The staff were really friendly, particularly the guy who was serving the food and drinks in the bar area.

If I had to pick a fault, it would be that I'd requested a room in a quiet area but we were on the first floor and whoever was above us, were like a herd of elephants, making noise till gone past 11 o'clock, which didn't bode well with having a 5yr old with us.

User

It's a perfect position on the Cliffe top in North Bay .....ideal for strollers along the cliff top towards the old castle ruins .....it's also 10 minute walk into the town centre for anyone who likes shopping it's a nice shopping centre.

The hotel runs smoothly and has a lift to all floors (I think).

We only stayed bed and breakfast so cannot comment on evening meal but the breakfast buffet is lovely.

The bar is very social we had a couple of enjoyable evenings in here with the excellent barman chatting to everyone and making them at ease.

User

10 of us stayed in the clifton last night ...5 double rooms ...on arrival the reception staff were polite and helpful ...we had a large room which was very clean and comfortable ...we had drinks in the hotel and again staff were polite and very friendly ...we headed out for the evening and returned to the hotel around midnight we had drinks at the bar which was run by the night porter again very pleasant so the bar did not close , ordered a takeaway they didnt have a problem but you had to eat it in your room ...all in all a pleasant stay and would stay again...we had a permit so didnt pay for parking they do have a carpark but this was full

User

The staff were friendly and while the decor throughout was a little dated it was ok. The room was reasonably clean but there was a little hole in the celing. The bathroom was really small and the bed wasn't all that comfortable. We didn't have our evening meal at the hotel and breakfast didn't look all that appetising to me as it seemed to be a little bit greasy. Nice location on top of the cliff.

User

Perhaps due to the lift being broken it was fairly quiet. I was here with a coach load from Glasgow and it looked as if there was one other coach party there.

The room was fine it looked as though the bathroom was fairly recently done.

No evening entertainment, however that was not an issue for me but is was disappointing for my dad.

The meals were ok and buffet style. Note no porridge for breakfast also the desserts were mainly fruit or cheesecake and cream was not provided (a bit strange and disappointing) no custard and ice cream could be had but you had to ask.

My only other moan is that it costc £3.40 first step small bottle of cider.

User

Just back from an overnight stay with a friend. GOOD POINTS: The staff were friendly and the hotel did what it said on the tin! We needed a bed each, a bathroom and we got both plus a great sea view thrown in for good measure! We also got a parking space which made life so much easier. BAD POINTS: The room was clean-ish ... there were cobwebs on the ceiling, stains on the cushions on the beds and the bedroom window didn’t close properly. The bathroom was so small you could only just dry yourself in there. The floor sloped, there was no toilet brush and the shower had dirty grout so I would say it was ready to be completely ripped out and start over. However, we paid £50 for a twin room - still good value as it did everything we needed. More tea bags & coffee required though as one each isn’t really sufficient. We bought more as we both love our tea! I would stay there again but I wouldn’t say it was luxury, it was sufficient and good value for money.

User

Friendly staff. The lady who was on the evening shift was really lovely as was the bar man. I stayed there for 1 night with my daughter and dog. Was slightly disappointed with the room. Although adequate it could do with an update. It was disappointing not having some sort of view of the sea but we enjoyed our stay. Thank you...

User

Very good location to the Open Air Theatre

The hotel staff were great especially the bar staff, but the room was the size of a shoe box so we never stayed in there much.

Very dated rooms...dirty sheets...dirty curtains...marks all over the walls....window was minging and the mattress had loads of bits over it

I have uploaded some photos i have taken

THE GOOD POINTS

Very friendly staff

Food was good and the location

We paid £105 for 1 night and £70 for the second night and i would say it was only worth £40 overall

User

Never again will my family stay at this hotel - insects on the window sills, mould in the shower, stains on the walls and mouldy net curtains are just a few of the disgusting things found (photos taken at the time). Upon leaving to check out, when handing the keys over the man said "Right" and turned his back and walked away. Customer Service?? Absolute joke! Written letter of complaint sent and reply received apologising but that my Mam should've mentioned it at the time. She may have done if he hadn't turned his back on her but had asked if everything had been OK with their stay. As this was her first trip away since my Dad passed away, she did not want to make a fuss but wrote when she got home. A complimentary upgrade on her next visit was offered - erm, I don't think so!!

User

Judging by their last post on this page they probably won’t see this anyway!! Stayed here for ONE night on the 28/7/18 with my 9yr old daughter, our room was on the ground floor and had woodlice!! We got another room which was suppose to be a double bed? Just a bit bigger then a single bed really, no air conditioning whatsoever and with the recent temperatures our room was far too warm and stuffy it was awful! What has annoyed me more was the price I had to pay and it didn’t even include a breakfast, £155!!! Absolutely disgusted and we didn’t even get much of an apology in regards to our woodlice ridden room! If it wasn’t for the fact we were attending a concert at the Open Air Theatre and needed to stay over in Scarborough for the night, we definitely would not of stayed!! Email of complaint and wanting a refund sent!!

User

Checked in for myself and my husband and our dog to be given the smallest shoebox of a room. The bed even had a single headboard. No running hot water in sink or shower, main bedroom light didn’t work could only use bathroom light. Dirty towel from previous guest left in room along with a dirty toothbrush. Absolutely disgusted for £82 for the night. NEVER stay there again and certainly wouldn’t recommend .

User

Awful! We were put on a "family" room on the top fooor, with the only lift being broken. Lots of fun with two dogs who need to go outside regularly and a bad knee! Whilst we were there a disabled lady had a nasty accident trying to navigate the stairs. The bed was rock hard and slanted down at the edges, was desperately uncomfortable. The staff were mainly lovely, except one man on reception who was rude, insisting we hadn't before pled the dogs and refusing to allow us a parking space because we hadn't booked in advance! The food was mediocre. Evening Mel not bad, but expensive for a basic buffet and the breakfast wasn't great, crusty scrambled eggs and burned hash browns and fried bread. The 'continental ' selection was actually a bit of tinned fruit and some cheese and ham slices. No pastries etc. The bar was expensive and the white wine was warm enough to bathe in, also no cards taken at the bar, so have to queue up at reception to pay after you get your drink!

I would say that you get what you pay for, but after the surcharge of £10 per dog per night and the dear dinner, it turned out rather expensive anyway. We are staying in a far superior guest house tonight for a lot less money.

Fawlty Towers has nothing on this place!

User

Arrived to a receptionist that clearly didn't want to be there.. filled out all the paper work and was handed our key.. when we eventually found our room on the 1st floor we was greeted by a squished spider on the wall a, a toilet with a present in it and also urine on the toilet seat.. at 9pm ish we called reception to order some food (as it said sandwiches was served 24hr) to be told there wasn't any and hung up.. the beds was uncomfy and the room was like been in the north pole.. all in all I wouldn't stay here if they paid me to didn't feel welcome at all.

User
