It’s our annual regatta on Saturday so we’re only open half day. If you want to eat with us I suggest you arrive by 11am. I hope this hasn’t caused too much inconvenience and that people come to Mersea still to enjoy the regatta.

Please be aware that the strood will be closed for two hours on Sunday. I would recommend you arrive to us by 11:30-12 on Sunday anyway as it’s been extremely busy.

Make sure you check the tide times if you’re coming to Mersea mid to late August.

The tides aren’t too high this weekend and next week but may go over the strood for a little while. Tide times are below if you want to check.

We are open as normal today but due to electricity supply problems we may be serving limited hot food. As soon as the problem is fixed and we’re off the generator we’ll be back on full menu. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Caroline

Yum.. but make sure you book! It’s a time slot nowadays and not just turn up and squeeze in. I miss that!

What a great unpretentious restaurant, it’s hard to imagine, plastic tablecloths in a hut and a real muck in feel to the place, wipe your hands on kitchen roll and get on with it, if you can’t get past that this isn’t for you, but if you can the food is amazing, beyond fresh, the menu is added to as the catches come in, and if you decide you want bread, you pop down to the cafe 100 yards away and buy it, it just all works amazingly well, I had the crab platter and the squid rings and they were exactly as you would have imagined them to be, half way through the meal some razor clams came in, dammit, if only I had some room for them. This was my 2nd visit and I will come again, and again......

Used the online booking for delivery. We were staying at the Seaview Park (behind the beach huts) and booked the final delivery slot and to meet at the gate for collection. We had the seafood platter for 2 people and it was amazing, plentiful, perfect. Without a doubt would recommend and would definitely order again. Where's the 10* button :D ?

The best food ever - always.

The staff are brilliant

Just love it - we had oysters mussels squid prawns - shell on and off - and tiger prawns roll mops mackerel pate - and even salad!

we just kept ordering and it just kept coming !

Thank you so much for a wonderful dining experience at lunch-time today. The food, ambience and cheerful staff certainly helped to lighten a grey and drizzly day. Not forgetting the novelty of being able to take our own wine and bread. Love, love, loved it. Not my first visit and most definitely not my last.

Loved everything about it. Staff are warm and friendly. Huge selection of fresh seafood. Butterflied tiger prawns were gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyed the scallops on special. We brought our own wine and bread. Lovely lunch with wonderful staff. üòä

It was a long awaited visit to eat here, very surprised we got a table at 1:30pm on a bank holiday weekend. We had prawn (shell on) to start, I even tried cooked oysters with Gruyere cheese which were yummy. I enjoyed a pint of prawns, smoked salmon and a green lipped mussel. The scallops were delicious too, melted in the mouth and they did these without bacon lardons too. It's a good idea that you can bring your own bread and wine too, I'm sure we will be back again at some point.

If your into your sea-food this is the best

Very basic tables and seating but the food is 1st class

Great location, great shellfish and seafood cooked brilliantly at a very reasonable price. Also very relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can take your own wine and taking bread is a must. They do sell wine from a local vineyard and beer from a local brewery, but no hot drinks, like tea or coffee. Delicious salads too and everyone in our party enjoyed their meals

Amazing seafood. Bring your own bread (-there’s a bakers close by) and your own alcoholic drinks. Have been here a few times now and it always exceeds our expectations. Great value and great atmosphere and staff. It’s basic inside but who cares when their seafood is this good! Thank you. We’ll be back soon!

A long wait but so worth it! The best cod and chips we’ve ever had! We’ll be back for sure!

My husband has wanted to eat there for a very long time, we decided to go out for a drive and see if we could get int there, popped in at 12 was told we could have a table at 1.20pm which worked out perfectly for us as we went for a lovely walk. Food was fresh, perfectly prepared and cooked, staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend and we would defiantly return .

Great place to eat. Lovely atmosphere, but needed to have more hot food if available to order till 4pm, it had run out by 2.30pm ! Or failing that go back to all cold food only, as that was the original attraction of the shed.

Delicious food! But be warned that if you are a bigger party you cannot reserve, and you ALL have to have arrived before you will be given a table. But the food was amazing and the atmosphere was great once in :)

Take on bread and drink to make it cheaper.
