The Countryside Alliance Description

The Countryside Alliance is known for its lobbying and campaigning work on wildlife and management, but its agenda is far broader than that, incorporating food & farming, local businesses and services, and the injustices of poor mobile phone signal and broadband in the countryside.

The Countryside Alliance was formed in 1997 when the British Field Sports Society, the Countryside Movement and the Countryside Business Group the Alliance amalgamated. We are known for having arranged several pro-countryside marches and rallies including the Hyde Park Rally on 10 July 1997, the Countryside March on 1 March 1998 (360, 000 people) and the Liberty & Livelihood March on 22 September 2002 (407, 791 people).

These demonstrations were held to support fieldsports in response to a newly elected Labour Government that was hostile. The wrangling over fieldsports continued for many years resulting in the failed and discredited Hunting Act 2004. We work tirelessly to promote and protect hunting and shooting interests, and our work for fishing includes Countryside Alliance Foundation projects; Fishing for Schools and Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland.

Although country sports remain on the frontline of our campaigns, we are anything but single issue. Our campaigns on broadband, mobile phone signal, fly tipping, affordable housing, food & farming and rural business (through the Countryside Alliance Awards) show that we represent the interests of those who love the British countryside, regardless of who or where they are.

With around 100, 000 members the Countryside Alliance promotes and protects rural life at Parliament, in the media and on the ground. Join us at www. countryside-alliance.org

In our e-newsletter this week, our CEO Tim Bonner writes:
"This week, Prince Charles claimed pheasant crumble to be his favourite dish. A great choice and a game recipe that is as quick and easy to make as it is delicious. With the game season in full swing and with Great British Game Week starting on Monday (19th – 25th November), there is no better time to be thinking about putting game on your own table..."

Please support our Casting for Recovery Appeal. We’ve set ourselves the target of doubling the number of Casting for Recovery retreat places we can offer by 2020. To achieve that, we will need more funding – currently each retreat costs in the region of £12,000 to run. Please give what you can to support our Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland Appeal. Your donation will enable ladies who are recovering from breast cancer to experience the incredible healing power of our fly-fishing retreats and will be hugely appreciated by our future participants. Please donate here today: http://bit.ly/2PW66U4 Thank you!
