The Crib - St Ives Holiday Let

On 31 January 1938 the 3,700-ton Panamanian steamer Alba, loaded with a cargo of coal, ran aground in stormy weather en route from Barry in South Wales to Civitavecchia in Italy. At low tide, you can still see the boilers of the shipwrecked Alba on Porthmeor Beach.

We decided to take a short drive up the coast today to a wild and windswept Porthtowan. We enjoyed watching the rolling waves and beautiful sunset from Bluebar, which is situated right on the beach. This is a great place for drinks and food and the views are stunning.

A beautiful day to take a stroll to Porthkidney sands, in Lelant. This beautiful beach can be accessed by walking along the footpath to Dt ain’t Church, past the golf club and onto the beach.

An absolutely beautiful gift hand made and left for us by our guest in the Crib last night. Thank you Ginetta. It’s really appreciated and stunning - a lovely surprise.

Should you wish to visit the Isles of Scilly during your trip, the Scillonian III provides daily sea passage and you can also fly from Lands End airport. We have had a lovely afternoon st the Engine Inn, at Cripplesease, on the outskirts of St Ives. Set in the backdrop of the Penwith Moors, the views are spectacular and, even on a misty and blustery day like today, the is a warm welcome inside this historic pub. The fish and chips were lush! We even got to watch the ‘Welly Wanging’ in the field.

If you are looking for some of the best burgers in town, coupled with cool surroundings and a harbour front location, you can’t really go wrong with the Hub. Literally on the harbour front, this is a great place to enjoy people watching whilst working your way through the cocktail menu, burgers or both 😁
