Here at The Crooked Inn we have our own bore hole so all the water that comes out of our taps is good natural Cornish spring water. Over the next few months we will be getting rid of all our bottled water for sale and using only our good stuff! Not only does it taste better but it’s better for the environment and FREE 😃

We have stayed here for the last 2 New Years weekends and had an amazing time, relaxed and good food, think I've eaten ribs every time as they are so good, 2 nights ago we found ourselves close so we decided to go back and I had the muscles for starters, wow amazing the best I have ever had, they were in a bacon, leak and white wine Sauce. I'd have them again for sure. Main I had the pork and that was lovely too, both off the specials board. The staff are very friendly too, all I can say is that I wish this pub was closer to Bristol because I definitely make it my local .

Worth a visit

We have been for a carvery a couple of times and decided to come for dinner on Friday night and we will be deffinatly be back again! The food was delicious and service was lovely! My only downside of the evening was when we ordered the confit belly pork starter to share, I soon realised after it being served to us I didn't want to share and wished I'd ordered my own it was amazing!

User

Warm welcome, friendly staff, beautiful dinner, Superb breakfast with lots of fresh prepared fruit and Top End

Choices for cooked breakfasts too.....

Comfy room, lovely situation and atmosphere, a character of a landlady who Always has time to chat- I love this place and will definitely be back

User

This is our local. We wandered in today just for a drink, but decided to have some food in the end too. I had a Greek salad and it was lovely, the cheese was really creamy and high quality and the salad had loads of different ingredients in it. My husband had a sausage ciabatta and was also really happy with his meal. The man behind the bar (landlord?) was really friendly and helpful.

User

Thank you so much for the lovely food and wonderful service - especially the barman who came in balancing the birthday cake with flaming candles singing 'Happy Birthday' at top of his voice! Service above and beyond the call of duty when they were so busy. We definitely highly recommend this place. It is really child friendly, providing play area and equipment for kids. Thank you again.

Saw the sign on the way home from Plymouth and thought a pint and some grub why not, and was very surprised, basically pub grub but very tasty and plenty of it ...the carvery looks awesome several draught beers on tap, the landlord and staff could not have been more hospitable with the landlord bringing pints of Guinness to my wife and myself now that's service..will certainly be going back.

User

Really glad that we came today! Great service and very accommodating - happy to adapt a vegetarian meal to a vegan meal for me, very impressed. Food and facilities for children all excellent. Will definitely come back

I have lived near The Crooked Inn for nearly 20 years and have seen it develop into the establishment it now is. We have had family wedding guests stay in their rooms for 3 Weddings, I have had 2 work Christmas Parties and endless Birthday Celebrations start (and finish) at The Crooked Inn over the years and now can’t recommend it enough. Shony and her husband and staff are so friendly and the food is fabulous - thank you to all the team - Thank you

Great Service, Great Food, what more could you ask for.

User

First time there. Food great, service good, cider tasty and local, great setting. Particularly enjoyed watching the ducks being coralled into their pen by staff.

User

First time there. Booked via messenger on Facebook. Easy parking and plenty of it. My order was taken very literally, three carveries and a small one... My wife can't eat too much, but she just couldn't fit into the high chair! Nice beer. Plenty of exercise getting from the carvery to the conservatory. Best beef at a carvery for a long time. If I'd known the parsnips were so good I wouldn't have bothered with the roasters. Cabbage beautiful. Pork very tasty and crackling perfect - crispy and full of flavour but not tooth-breaking - perfect. I didn't have the turkey but I was reliably advised that it was the most succulent and tasty that I would have eaten in my relatively short life so far (59). Meat carved how it should be carved - not many these days can do real slices that are thin enough to be called slices but not so thin that you can see through them. Chap carving obviously knew what he was doing. All this at a very reasonable price. All of us had a very enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings and were neither rushed nor over-bothered. We will come again - how could we not, when you even provide a loyalty bonus. Thank you.

User

Lovely food - I had fish and chips. There were a few surprise bones in the fish, but it tasted delicious and fresh. The wife's chicken tikka in a nan bread was rather dry, but tasted ok, (not anything special). Bread and butter pudding desert was lovely. The 'Fudge cake' was actually chocolate cake but the girls enjoyed it.

All of the female staff, and the young lad waiting tables were helpful and friendly, but the middle aged bloke behind the bar seemed rather grumpy. Maybe having a bad day....(as we all do at times )

Would recommend and would come back again - beautiful surroundings and a nice play area for the children. A little pricey for pub food, but still wouldn't put us off coming back!

Thanks again

User

Absolutely vile food. Will NOT be returning again!!!!

I arrived with the group and sat at our table in the conservatory around 6pm on Friday 9th March 2018. Ordered my drink (water) at the bar, all was fine. And ordered my food via group which I’ve had ham, egg & chips but when my dish was arrived, it looked like burnt chips, ham was OK and eggs was bit runny. Two of my friends had a lasagne but they said it wasn’t very tasty and not hot enough! It was a shame we didn’t enjoy the meal.

I will not be returning again and wouldn’t be surprised if there are many others who also feel the same.

Good luck with keeping your customers with your appalling attitude, you certainly need it.

I stayed for business. Room was ok evening meal was fantastic. It all went wrong at 6.30am when the heating or water heating came on and we so loud it just kept me awake (I did record it). I got my stuff together and put in van the went to breakfast, I walked passed two sitting loud chatting ladies in the courtyard who both said morning, I then walked to the breakfast room

Only one in the room first cup was dirty not really a problem found a clean one had coffee.

Sat waiting then one lady came up stairs straight into kitchen so sat waiting nothing no one came to take order I could hear her in the kitchen chatting so I lost the will to stay so I had to find other lady to complain and pay.. the breakfast incident was 8am disappointed after a great evening meal

User

Disgusted with the service and rudeness making us wait nearly 2 hours with kids. Then for a waiter to to tell me to chill when i asked how much longer. Will not be returning.

We have lived in Saltash for 10 years and have used this pub throughout the years and always enjoyed it .... today, Christmas Eve we took our family for lunch.

To say we were disappointed would be an understatement ....we booked well in advance and asked for a specific table.

On arrival we were told quite rudely they were busy ( we knew this would be the case hence why we booked!) and we couldn’t sit where we wanted and we were put upstairs in a room with no one else, with no atmosphere and right opposite the kitchen with people in and out constantly. This also meant we had to go up and down the stairs to order drinks / food often battling with busy staff bringing food from the kitchen or people getting food from the carvery which was also located upstairs

A bottle of wine was ordered ...£16 ish for a bottle of Pinot Grigio .... which was actually from Sainsbury’s and can be purchased for less than £5!!

Menu items were out of stock until we came to order and in one case when the food came to the table and a key component was missing .... if something is advertised as x&y .... you don’t just expect x!!

We were advised that to order dessert we would have to visit the carvery ( we didn’t actually have carvery for our mains) .... 2 of our party selected chocolate fudge cake and when ice cream was requested as an accompaniment this was refused .... after some persuasion the waiter brought some to the table.

The only positive was the table waitresses and waiters ( who were all very young ) ... were attentive, pleasant and this was reflected in he tip we left .... this was not the same at the bar where we felt an absolute inconvenience for even booking a table!

Really disappointed to have been let down by somewhere we enjoy at a special time

User

Stayed and visited for meals over the years many a time. Last few visits have been not so good ... it’s a shame really as always loved to visit. The staff / owners have been quite strict on children running around and also not very welcoming ! The owners dog a big beagle also tried to bite my niece that was running around playing with other children. Will not be visiting again

User

Really bad. None of the food we wanted on a bank holiday!!! Crazy. Miserable moody morning landlady at the bar. If you’re going to sit and moan do it away from your customers

User

Absolutely appalling customer service. Will NOT be returning.

After eating here many times before, we booked a table for six people for our lunch this Sunday. One of the party was an elderly relative who is 88 and has dementia.

We arrived and sat at our table in the conservatory. Ordered some drinks at the bar, all was well.

I made a list on my phone of our food order, and went to the bar to order our 6 starters and 6 main courses.

I requested that the soup starter for my grandfather not be piping hot, which i get the feeling wasn’t that well received by who I assume was the owner, Dave I think his name is.

I assume that he thought I was a fussy customer rather than someone carefully ordering food that would be suitable for an 88 year old dementia sufferer who struggles to tell the difference between hot and cold food.

I ordered the 6 starters and 6 mains, checking with the chap behind the bar that we had 6 of each noted as well as the two sides we also added.

The starters arrived and were all fantastic.

The young waiting staff then brought out the mains - four of the party had the suet pudding, grandad had a child’s portion of sausage and chips and another diner had the carbonara. The only issue is that only five mains came out. My suet pudding was missing.

One of the young waiting staff apologised and said they hadn’t had an order for it so it would be around 4 minutes from the kitchen. Not wanting to cause an issue or any embarrassment, I told them that would be fine, no problem at all.

When my dish arrived, it was very mushy and looked like it had just been microwaved in a rush.

All of the other suet puddings looked lovely and were finished in the oven so they were firm and well cooked and slightly toasted, very different to the soppy mush I was served. Again I didn’t want to make an issue so I ate some of it.

When I went to the bar to pay the bill, I mentioned that my dish was about 10 minutes late and was cooked very differently to the others and wasn’t very nice at all.

I was abruptly told that she had discussed this with the owner chap and I had only ordered five mains not six, even though I confirmed my order after I had placed it, as being 6 main courses.

I explained again what I had ordered and said that i was disappointed. After quite a confrontation the owner removed the cost off my bill, no apology and was very rude about it.

I then went back to the table to help my elderly family member out towards the car, as I was walking back past the bar I heard the owner telling another customer at the bar that I had ordered incorrectly and ordered “kids meals” and “curly fries” and generally was being quite derogatory about me.

Whilst the this is a nice pub that can be capable of nice food, it was far from full, in fact not very busy at all.

After my experience today, and reading other reviews on Trip Advisor, I would suggest that the owner evaluate how he and his staff deal with an issue that is politely raised by a returning customer.

I for one will not be returning and wouldn’t be surprised if there are many others who also feel the same.

Good luck with keeping your customers with your appalling attitude, you certainly need it.
