About The Delaunay

The Delaunay is an all-day brasserie /cafe in the grand European tradition with a separate Cafe / 'take-out' section - The Counter at The Delaunay. The Delaunay is located on the corner of The Aldwych and Drury Lane in Covent Garden.

The Delaunay Description

The Delaunay offers an extensive à la carte menu throughout the day, seven days a week, inspired by the grand cafés of Europe. Breakfast is served Monday to Saturday, with a full brunch on Sundays. Traditional English Afternoon Tea is served every day.

The à la carte menu has a wide choice of dishes from platters of crustacea, to salads, and café classics such as choucroute à l'Alsacienne, moules frites and steaks, as well as our special selection of Wieners and Schnitzels. A tempting array of cakes, slices, desserts and ice cream coupes follows.

Tables can be reserved in advance but a certain number are always available for 'walk-ins' on the day. Perfectly located for early pre- and late post-theatre meals, bookings are taken up to to 11. 30pm, Monday to Saturday, and up to 10. 30pm on Sundays.

Wonderful Afternoon Tea. One of the tastiest I’ve ever had in London. Lovely setting, service was excellent. Staff friendly, knowledgable and nothing too much for them. Whole experience was a pleasure. Can’t rate it highly enough.

User

What a treat - was given this as a gift having been to the theatre. Everything about this was excellent, the staff, the venue and the afternoon tea was superb. Will certainly go again when next in London and this time sample the evening meals.

Visited yesterday for pre theatre dinner and drinks. Lovely greeting at the door and at reception. Great service, fab food, lovely ambience. Will definitely be visiting again.

User

Special evening, thank you so much. Food was delicious, wine and service were first class.

Lovely time on Sunday 1st July 2018. It was a late birthday treat for my mother-in-law (GM). So, party consisted of GM, husband, one of his brothers, both daughters and their partners. All of the staff were welcoming and very gracious. The food was excellent and perfectly cooked. The wine was really good (I don’t normally drink white). Splendid.

I have been to The Delaunay both for brunch, and also for drinks with friends — both visits were in quick succession.

Classical elegance, mixed with polished, professional and unobtrusive service, make The Delaunay a delight in which to while away time in the company of good friends.

Had a lovely brunch there. Food was good , especially the pancakes. Great service too.

User

Great venue and great service, the waiters were very attentive and just wanted to make sure we had a lovely eve. I would recommend

User

Great menu, love the ambiance of this place and the staff are wonderful. Chicken Kiev is a must have.

User

First class restaurant. Great menu choices, food delicious and staff excellent. We had been to see a matinee show and although I had a dinner reservation booked in the main restaurant we decided to also have lunch at The Counter. Again food and staff excellent apart from the apple strudel, which had actually been recommended by a friend. Although it tasted nice it had been warmed, I presume, in a microwave and so, of course, the crispness of the filo pastry was lost. Great disappointment on an otherwise perfect lunch and dinner.

User

Excellent food, impeccable and friendly service, with a great ambiance. The dessert was incredible. This place must have some able pastry chefs...

User

Came here for afternoon tea, delicious and staff are accommodating yet discreet towards our needs (invisible illnesses).

User

This was the best schnitzel and strudel in London plus the Black Forest gateau was great. Highly recommended for meat dishes.

User

Paid 2 visits here before and after show, very lovely place and good staff also good selection of food.

User

Great food. Attentive, friendly service. Not cheap (especially the wine) but hey ho it's Central London

User

Great food in an interesting setting. Good atmosphere, though my dining companion thought it was quite noisy. Service was good, efficient, though somewhat impersonal and a little cool. However, I would certainly return.

Our sons treated us to afternoon tea here for our 25th anniversary, which we had a virgin voucher for.

When walking in we showed our voucher to the man at reception and he wrote down all the information and printed a receipt and gave to another lady.

Shown to our table absolutely beautiful setting very charming place.

Then a waitress came up to take our order of cakes.. and also asked to see our voucher again!!

This was not needed and felt a little uncomfortable.

We had out afternoon tea which was lovely and was able to take out cakes home as we had so many..

We left and got out the door, then another waitress come running out to ask if we had a voucher at this point I felt like a criminal running away without paying... we had a lovely tea but feel really let down by the lack of communication between staff and making us feel uncomfortable.

This was a very special present for us on a very special day .

User

Good food n great wine but not excellent eye contact staff with my table unfortunately as everyone here said excellent service. Long gap wait between starter and main course . End up we have to stand up and bring my card over to pay the bill even we already ask for the bill and just sat there and waiting to leave.Sorry the food runner is better than the table service unfortunately. Will try again with friends next time. Hopefully Will get better server next time.

User

Didn't like the tiny sandwiches as they were bland and the cakes were nothing special. So glad I was not hungry as not at all filling. I would have preferred closed filled sandwiches. Far too overpriced what the little you get. Staff very friendly and service good though.
