Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Routes for all abilities, and ages. I took my 8 year old here yesterday and she loved it, plenty younger kids climb here too!

It's a large space, with a great many spots to climb, so it never feels too busy.

I've done a lot of top roping and lead climbing before, this place opened my eyes to bouldering and made me feel like a novice. It actually felt like I had done a work out after leaving.

I had a Rock Tots party for my sons 5th birthday today and they all had a great time. The kids ages ranged from 3-7 years and there was something for everyone. They ran activities for the kids aswell as the climbing to keep them engaged. The staff were great and the food and snack bags were ideal for them as they'd worked up an appetite. A big thank you to all involved

First visit to the Depot (to any of the Depots in fact) yesterday. After speaking to climbers a few weeks ago at Kilnsey I had high expectations.

As the Depot is a dedicated bouldering/training centre I used TCA in Glasgow as my benchmark for quality. Comparing the bouldering at a dedicated bouldering hall to that at an "all round" climbing centre would not be a fair reflection.

First impressions were good, I found the place easily (well Tom Tom did ), I got a space in their dedicated car park (Depot-1, TCA-0) which was a bonus but I noted that there was a small public car park next door and on-street parking was also available.

First contact!

Straight through the front door lies the reception/cafe.

A very welcoming guy came straight over (proving the natives are friendly and not alien at all!)

He got me registered and signed in and I opted to pay the extra £5 for membership which will get me in for £7 on further visits and will be accepted at the other depots too.

A brief explantation of the changing facilities and the pigeon holes/locker facilities and I was on my way. No scoring either way here.

Lockers are small and work on a key for key basis but changing facilities spacious. The lockers at TCA are big enough for all your stuff and you use your own padlock so that's a score to them. (Depot-1, TCA-1)

I spent a bit of time warming up but didn't waste it as I wandered round with the theraband and squeezy rubber ring and checked out the grading map and the various angles.

I found a slightly better variety of angles than TCA and a brighter feel to the place giving a point to the Depot. (Depot-2, TCA-1)

Finally.... The climbing!

Well my expectations were exceeded and then some.

The variety and setting of the problems was outstanding and there were many holds I had never encountered before (which I found pleasantly surprising as I get round a lot of walls and gives the Depot another point, Depot-3, TCA-1)

The texture of the wall paint was also superior to TCA which has a gloss effect finish I don't enjoy.

The wooden circuit was something new to me and I enjoyed some of the wooden problems I did and even some I didn't manage!

When the skin got thin the wood was a real bonus!

All in all I did problems from white, blue, red and wood and the whole of the black circuit, that gave a grade range of between V1 and V6.

Grading was spot on, I left thinking it was on the friendly side of fair. No stupid "willy-waggling" going on here and all the better for it.

Before leaving I had a look at the shop and personally found the selection of kit very good (didn't buy anything but plenty I could have shelled out on and a much bigger range than TCA, Depot-4 TCA-1)

So a definite win to Depot on the day, maybe once the novelty of it being new to me wears off then the scores will even out.

It won't be long before the novelty wears off as I expect to be here a lot over the next two years my with daughter living only 5 miles away

A very enjoyable afternoon.

Despite living near a few walls about an hour further south, I still really rate and enjoy visiting the depot. The problems are great and the atmosphere is very friendly and laid back.

User

Cannot get enough of this place! Would live there if I could! Great range of holds and wall styles, massive amount of variety of problems ranging from V0-V10 that change regularly and many sets overlap grades so always plenty to work! Staff are always helpful and friendly and cafe and shop are well stocked and offer lots of goodies!

User

Been 3 times over 5 years when travelling in the area. Always something new and exceptional route setting on each session. Great shop and very helpful staff.

Rocked up for a family day out with the five year old. . Once the obligatory pain in the rear disclaimers were completed we were given a good intro and orientation. Well laid out with good facilities. The only reason I didn't give five stars was they don't do ropes and belays (though don't claim to) which I was hoping to introduce the youngster to...
