We have a large car park here at the Devonshire. Just try not to drive into the landlords car! We are offering the value of the car as a reward for information. 35p😂
Getting the gravy for Sunday's carvery. No bisto here.
Are you at the age of a two day hangover? Did you sleep though yesterday after an epic New Years night? Don't worry, we are doing another carvery aka "dinners" just for you. 12 - 3!
It's been a great December and we'd just like to say a huge thank you to all the lovely customers we've welcomed over the month and to wish you all an early Happy New Year! The new year will bring a change of menu and lots of exciting things, so we look forward to seeing you all in 2017! 🍾 #thedevbelper #happynewyear #2017 #thankyou
Our pastry chefs macaroons. Ideal Christmas gifts.
Our game terrine. We soak the game in white wine over night. Then we make a reduction of red wine, shallots, garlic, herbs, spices and red current jelly. That gets blended with chicken livers till smooth. The game and liver is then mixed together and pressed into a terrine lined with bacon.
Covered and cooked for 2-3 hours in a Bain Marie in the oven then pressed over night.
... We serve it with toasted brioche and spiced apple chutney.

Outstanding tasty varied menu
My first choice for carvery in Belper. Had a weekday lunch for the first time the other day and was really impressed. Monday night quiz night is a favourite too
Lovely food - good service, friendly staff, great decor but most importantly for us dogs are welcome. Went there for lunch with family to celebrate a up and coming 50th. Nice small garden out the back for our 2 dogs.
I will definitely come again we had a lovely carvery, staff friendly, all round good service
I love The Exeter in Derby...so was very happy to hear about the Devonshire opening in Belper. The food, service, decor and atmosphere.. all wonderful.
Had a beautiful meal here last Friday evening..could not fault it...home made sauces for the chicken and steak...left feeling very full ..
Great food. Nice beer. Friendly staff.
Fantastic food & service . Definitely worth a visit
Ate at The Devonshire for the first time yesterday and had a lovely meal.
A great addition for Belper. All excellent
Very good food and service
Lovely food - good service, even though they were really busy at lunchtime.
Understandably took a little longer to get our food out but it was really good when it did come will be back
We tried the newly re-opened Devonshire today. It's nice and clean and staff friendly. There was lots of rushing around perform tasks which should have been complete before opening time. It's a bit like bringing London pub techniques to Belper, such as if you want to run a tab you have to hand over your bank card where it is kept in a "safe". Food service seemed a bit slow, when it arrives it's not on a plate but in various bowls and containers.
The size of food portions was good, but I found my slow cooked pork crock a bit too salty for my taste. I didn't like the crunchy peanuts in that dish, they didn't improve it.
So overall, it's worth a try, but prices are similar to the Lion just along the road so it is not a place I'd visit frequently.
Not a great start to our experience as I had telephoned ahead and booked a table for 5 of us at 1pm on Sunday. We arrived and clearly there was not a table reserved for us. The bar maid/waitress pointed and said we could choose.
We didn't have a menu and, as this was our first visit to the pub we did not know or wasn't told that there was only the carvery (and nominal veg option) available.
That said, we all had a carvery. The food was excellent, very home cooked with clearly fresh ingredients prepared well by the chef. My hubby has a big appetite and was satisfied with the amount of food, especially the meat, he had. The chef serving was brilliant, talked me through how he had prepared the red cabbage. Gravy was lovely too and the mashed potatoes were clearly freshly prepared with some homely lumps!
We all really enjoyed the meal. No child price though so the 11 year old was charged full price for her meal.
I think I would've given the place 5 stars had the service matched the level of the food!
As under new ownership but portion sizes for the nachos were too big for starter.
I look forward to going again when they have had time to make their mark
I visited this newly opened pub seemed nice & welcoming waitress service very slow hugely disappointed with the prices especially beer prices I was charged nearly £5 for a pint of lager can't see a future for this place charging these sort of prices people won't pay it in belper won't be coming again
Went to the newly opened Devonshire and was very disappointing. First service was extremely slow and staff seamed to be having problems with the computer as if they hadn't had enough training. Once I had placed our order and gotten our drinks it took at least 30 minutes to deliver calamari and Chicken Nachos. The Calamari was £7.50 and consisted of 4 tiny calamari rings in fact there was more tomatoes on the plate, the Chicken Nachos were not even close to what the description on the menu, what was supposed to be seasoned shredded chicken was bland cooked sliced chicken breast with a very thick sauce that also had no flavour even though it was supposed to be made with Monterrey Cheese. when this was brought to the attention of a staff member they said i will let the chef know.
As it had just opened I expected it to be busy and to wait for items but the food wasn't as described and what was served was terrible, top that off with a apparent lack of training of the staff it made for a very poor experience.
We visited the newly opened Devonshire the pub looked nice & clean I was totally disgusted with the drinks prices there's no way they should be charging those extortionate prices in belper won't be going again, I'm afraid the Devonshire will be soon out of business charging those sort of prices people do not like pubs that are ripping us off
