The Dorset Dairy Co

The Dorset Dairy Co arose from a passion for regenerative farming and quality nutrition. After years of watching the milk leave the family farm in tankers, Dan and his wife Alex started to think about other ways of putting it to good use. It began with a traditionally made strained yoghurt, followed by handmade cultured butter, a selection of creams, and finally, milk refill sites. We make Dorset's answer to Greek yoghurt, adding nothing to the milk but culture. By using our own milk, we know that it's of the highest quality and comes from a high-welfare cow, born and bred on the farm. We do not homogenise the milk or add thickeners or concentrate, nor do we process the yoghurt to make it smoother - meaning each batch is unique. We strain out the water and lactose using over 3L of milk for 1kg of yoghurt resulting in a luxurious creamy texture. Our yoghurt has great nutritional credentials: the lowest sugar content on the market and a high protein content as well as a number of probiotics. We use the cream that is skimmed off the milk used in our fat free yoghurt and semi-skimmed milk to make by hand limited amounts of cultured butter and cream. After a surge in demand for milk in glass bottles, we started selling milk directly to the public again through milk vending machines installed near the farm and developed our very own retail milk refill concept which can be found in 32 locations across southern England as well as Farmers Markets in London. These provide unhomogenised, gently pasteurised milk from our free-range cows whilst addressing the issues of single use plastic, food miles and provenance. We do not believe in waste. All by-products from our processes are used to make other products or used as feed for pigs and calves. All our packaging is fully recyclable.
