The Drunken Monkey

About The Drunken Monkey

The Drunken Monkey dim sum eatery and cocktail bar opened in 2002, pioneering the trend of evening cocktails and dim sum. It was nominated for the Evening Standard Bar Award in its first year, and today it is considered an East End establishment that is recognised worldwide.

With a relaxed New York vibe and Kung Fu kitsch, it is the perfect eating and drinking den for all occasions. Enjoy a last minute bite with friends, an afternoon Bloody Mary and brunch, or cocktails and partying at our now “infamous” Late Night Monkey Sessions featuring a host of amazing DJs.

Each weekend features an eclectic mix of house, soul and funk. Over the years DJs from across the world have graced the decks with a vibrant soundtrack, including Groove Armada, Steve Proctor, Barrie K. Sharpe, Radio Meuh, Giles Smith, Mauriccio Castella, Ronnie Herel, Maya Jane Coles, DIY Soundsystem, Miss Jools, Eddie Pillar, and Femi Fem – to name a few.

Our space is versatile, with a main bar area, dining section and two private areas (Concubine Room and Liang Shan Po). So whether you’re after a private party, large birthday dinner, cocktail masterclass or late night dim sum, look no further than The Drunken Monkey to host your evening.

User

The service was very fast, drinks well priced and well made and the food was delicious. I don't think I can fault it and would go back every time I'm in that area.

User

My girlfriend and I come very often and every time we enjoy the music the food the atmosphere all combined in to a perfect night out. Good job to the staff!

User

Got seated straight at a table by a friendly waitress. We hadn’t booked a table on a busy Friday night but they made a table available for us. We were told straight away about the happy hour drinks which we were happy about. The cocktails were delicious and very strong. We ordered 5 dishes to share and the food was amazing, everything came out hot and well prepared. The dips complimented the dishes. When we had finished eating we enjoyed our cocktails and were not hurried out of the door. This was our second visit and we will definitely be coming back again. Thank you.

User

Food was fab. The chill squid wow, lovely food, good atmosphere, well worth a visit we will be going back.and it helps that prices are reasonable and staff are pretty good

User

Food was fab, cocktails great and the staff really friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. We went on a Saturday and was a great atmosphere.

User

Ordering cocktails during happy hour took forever. We then had a table booked for dinner and the food was great and came out quickly. Reasonably priced too. I was upset they didn't have any desserts on the menu!

User

Really good food but the service was dire. Happy Hour is restricted , where you can only pick from 5 cocktails. The website says Happy Hour till 8 bit when you get there its only til 7.

User

I've been here a few times now. Good food and drink. I feel it's a bit over priced, so try go happy hour 👍🏾🍹

User

Food was hot plentiful and delivered to the table quickly the decor is I suppose quirky- the waitress was either miserable or couldn't understand English properly which is why when she served me beer at room temperature I couldn't be bothered to complain- it was OK but I won't be rushing back

User

Yummy, waiteress didn't really know what they were handing us, am a vegetarian and ate a pork and prawn dumpling after being told it was all veggie to then realise after the first bite what had happened.. pretty disappointing in that regards.

User

Well the tables were laid but all had reserved signs on them just after midday, I found the bar stools uncomfortable. The beer I had was well presented and reasonably priced for London. Staff outnumbered customers two to one ready for the big rush late, but meanwhile I noticed potential customers were being deterred by the lack of free tables.

User

We arrived a group of 8 as friends had been before. Door staff intimidating, music mediocre, atmosphere? Toilets disgusting all in all a pretty rough place!

User

The food is nice the cocktails are even better very strong 🙌🏽🙌🏽 The staff are very friendly and polite the service is terrible. Half our table had food while the other half waited for ages, they brought the wrong food out and the wrong drinks. Food items was brought to our table that we didn’t ask for then was added to our bill also the card machine wasn’t working and this was my first time eating here and it was on my birthday. I’m not sure if it was just becasue it was a Saturday or if it’s always like this. It was disappointing after waiting all week to visit this restaurant.

User

Used to be our favourite place to eat. Our last experience here changed our mind. Rude staff, terrible service, average food. What a shame!

User

It's tragic how bad this place has become. Used to be my favourite place to eat in Shoreditch, but alas, it's gone the same as all the other places in this area, straight down the toilet

I made a booking weeks ago for our anniversary making a simple request for the same table we always have. That apparently is too much of a stretch for these guys. We arrived and were told we would have to wait as our table was in use. After waiting I was taken to our table, which was not our table. I asked again for the original table requested to which I was told this wasn't possible, upon leaving, the manager told me to calm down without trying to rectify the situation. I feel bad that we didn't get to spend our anniversary there, but am so glad I didn't give them any of my money.

I hope they collapse very soon.

P.s If you want amazing dim sum, go to the Panda Cafe in Leytonstone

User

It's a turist trap. Probably the worst place to have a drink. Bad quality alcohol but expensive, also I saw the barman refilling the bottles with the shots left by the people. DISGUSTING! It's dirty, bad ventilated and stinks. Never again!!

User

If it wasn't for the company...the birthday night would have been ruined...I don't think this venue can accommodate large groups...the food is lovely if you can actually be served on a table big enough to enjoy it...food came handed over to guests to organise it themselves on the table....never seen that before...even in Won Ki's who have a rep for being rude.....sort your business out Drunken Monkey! You can't carry on like that and expect people to come back!

User

I love it and i love they vibe everyone that works they so friendly and the food is always on point yummy

User

After emailing prior to our visit from Inverness the management kindly emailed back welcoming us on Friday night. Unfortunately when we arrived the bouncer was rude and offensive. We then phoned directly and a member of staff read our email and blatantly lied about the content. Please avoid this place at all costs.
