The Duke Of Cornwall Hotel Description

Welcome to the Duke of Cornwall Hotel

There’s a journey of discovery to be taken when you visit The Duke. Since 1863 when it was built as Plymouth’s first luxury hotel through to the present day, the hotel has an intriguing history that is sure to capture your imagination. The style and generous proportions of the hotel evoke the grace of years gone by, while our commitment to excellent service provides all the modern facilities you would expect.

Resting in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the hotel is the ideal base from which to explore the rich and varied history of Plymouth or to journey further into the beautiful South West. From the dramatic scenery of Dartmoor to the historic Barbican, home of Plymouth Gin distillery, there are a wealth of sights to enjoy.

Based opposite Plymouth Pavilions and just a short walk to the Theatre Royal and the city centre make the Duke the perfect base for business and pleasure visitors alike.

Leaving the bustle of the city behind you as you enter The Duke of Cornwall Hotel you immediately get a feel for the hotel in the welcoming decor of the entrance hall, with the ornate plaster, wood panelled walls and impressive stone fireplace, setting the scene for what is to come. You are immediately drawn towards the main reception by the grandeur of the imposing central staircase.

Rest assured that The Duke will have a room suited to you. Individually decorated and furnished to the highest standard, each of our seventy two rooms reflect the luxuriant architecture of the hotel, discreetly blending comfort and elegance with modern technology.

The Duke offers a number of dining options from its award winning AA Rosette Restaurants, to the relaxed atmosphere of the Lounge Bar. For special occasions why not indulge in Tea at the Top – a unique experience to enjoy afternoon tea in our tower with your own butler.

We work hard to make sure every guest has a memorable stay; we hope to welcome you in the future.

Wonderful hotel, staff were so pleasant and our room was wonderful and clean and it's such a beautiful looking hotel! Thank you when we are back in Plymouth we surely come again *****.

User

We couldn't be more grateful to Melanie and all the staff that made our charity ball last weekend a HUGE success.

Every single detail was accounted for - including PLENTY of staff to serve dinner to 206 people. Many people commented on how efficient the service was for a huge number of people.

The hotel always seemed one step ahead in organising our belongings, tidying the room and even removing rubbish for us the next day. I would certainly hold an event here again!

Thank you for making such a sad anniversary such a magical night to remember!

User

We are staying here at the moment. It has far exceeded our expectations. Wonderful room, staff and food. Looking forward to our stay over the next couple of days.

User

Took the opportunity to meet a friend for morning tea as she was staying overnight in the hotel. Sat in the lounge with a lovely fire and twinkling fairy lights. A lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating. If you’re looking for a meeting place with charm, definitely worth looking at The Duke with the bonus that there is parking (either in the hotel car park or street).

This weekend just gone (21st July 2018) was our daughter's wedding here at the Duke of Cornwall hotel and from start to finish we cannot praise highly enough the staff that made it all happen. Nothing was too much trouble, everyone was so friendly and helpful - from the reception staff to the dining staff to the bar staff they were amazing and as for the events team and the master of ceremonies (David Lane) thank you from both my husband and myself. This was the biggest day of our daughter's life and you guys made the best day - thankyou Jack & Jo Richards

User

Thankyou so much for all the hard work that went into our Charity Valentines Ball. You accommodated us without a hassle everything ran so smoothly and your team were incredible! We cannot Thankyou enough.

User

Thank you so much for the afternoon tea you put on for my friends and I yesterday, it was the perfect setting to ask them to be my bridesmaids in our wedding venue, which made it all the more special. The staff were so attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them, and the food was amazing - great value for money and the nicest afternoon tea we have had. We hope you will start doing them regularly now as we will be in attendance more often if you do, and will recommend you to everyone.

User

Stayed here overnight with work as we were running assessment days. My room was lovely very cosy indeed. Breakfast was amazing so nice having it cooked fresh rather than the usual buffet style were it’s all dried up. The girl on reception was friendly as were the girls in the restaurant. Great having free car parking although the car park isn’t that big but there is off road parking which is £2 for overnight. So yeah al in all a lovely hotel good location.

User

It was always going to be special, but to recieve so many well wishes and compliments after the event adds to the memory.

There was only one place you could have a Titanic Anniversary Dinner and that is in the hotel in which 20 of the Titanic's surviving stewardesses sought refuge and stayed overnight. The Charity Ball raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease was a great success.

For this I would like to thank the Duke of Cornwall and it's management and staff for enabling this nostalgic experience to take place..It most certainly was a White Star Line experience with a fantastic evening of Ocean Liner themed entertainment.

The communication and help from Toni made the organisation go smoothly with every request regarding disability access and dietary requirements was never an issue.

Thank You Doug, Annemarie, Nigel.

User

I have had the MOST AMAZING customer service whilst staying @TheDukePlymouth @BestWestern Food is excellent, Staff can NOT fault at all (always polite, calling me Sir when checking in was very cool) Room was decent. I WILL be back at some point soon. I would definitely recommend.

User

I booked my works xmas party here for the first time after hearing from friends how good it was. I have to say that I was not disappointed. Right from my first conversation with Toni, an extremely polite and professional person right through to the fantastic food and service on the night, our party at the duke far exceeded excellent! The setting in the ballroom was beautiful. Thank you to Toni and all the staff for making our night! I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and look forward to many more Christmas functions in the future. Many thanks

Having got married at “The Duke” on 9th June last year, and having such an AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL day, we decided there was only one place to spend our Anniversary.....

Once again, Pete & his BRILLIANT TEAM looked after us a treat & we enjoyed a memorable overnight stay.

Dinner was DELICIOUS

Room was ROMANTIC

Breakfast was BRILLIANT......

All-in-all 10/10 & DEFINITELY be back!!

User

Booked the work Christmas Away Day here. A conference in the morning followed by Christmas lunch before departing. Melanie was fantastic with the planning in the run up to the day, even with us adding requests until the day before. On the day everything was so smooth, staff were friendly, polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic and we are already trying to finalise the date for next year to come back! Thanks for a great experience.

User

A fabulous evening spent at the Duke of Cornwall with good friends, good food and wonderful service. The Titanic Anniversary Dinner will be an evening to rember

User

@TheDukePlymouth I can’t thank you and all your staff from chambermaid to restaurant to reception up to Steve the manager for making our stay last weekend the most enjoyable stay at a hotel for a while. We changed bedroom without any fuss. The other manager on duty Saturday night was excellent too. Lovely friendly staff. Oh and of course the young bar man. We will be back. Highly recommend you

User

Stayed here on business for a night. The staff very friendly, the room I stayed in was large though the decor a little feminine for my taste, It was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was very modern. Car park has limited spaces and I had to pay to park on the street.

User

Location: excellent; accommodation: comfortable, with very good shower and towels, ok bed, must remember to ask for non feather (hypo-allergenic) next time; breakfast: lovely; staff: attentive, knowledgeable and helpful

User

The car park is tiny - little or no chance of a space! There is NO disabled parking at this hotel. Tiny bar/room service menu very little choice if you don’t want sandwiches or chips. During my overnight stay it was 29 degrees outside sun blazing through the huge windows, room was like a sauna only 2 tiny opening windows which opened around 3 inches. No fan available. I could not stay in the room until the evening it was just too hot. The hotel itself is very nice. Breakfast was good but one rasher of bacon, really?

User

I was very disappointed with the service we received yesterday in the lounge, an hour waiting for 3 coffees and finally had a refund, the gentleman behind the bar seemed to keep being distracted and just forgot us - a notebook might be a good idea?
