“Opposite the railway station, The Duke is a tastefully and elegantly furnished hotel. My 2nd floor room had a comfortable large double bed, a roomy entrance with plenty of wardrobe space and a lovely bathroom with a free-standing bath and separate shower cubicle, all done out beautifully.
“The bar area was cool, spacious, and offered a great range of 8 cask ales in great condition and a fine range of spirits. The guys on duty were welcoming, knowledgeable and courteous, giving great service and then there's the food! The menu was impressive and had a good range of vegetarian options.
“I don't normally go for 'deconstructed' stuff, but the scotch egg was outstanding, as was the chicken fricassee, which I've not seen on a menu for a long time, a beautiful creamy sauce and superbly cooked chicken, bacon, a fondant potato and vegetables. Rounded off with a superb raspberry and white chocolate creme brulee and excellent Farrers coffee, this was one of the best meals I've had for ages! very good the girl behind the bar was very helpful and I could try before I bought my drink as I didn't know the brand and she recommended a drink which I liked .

Went for breakfast Saturday morning, excellent choice of food, I had smoked haddock and poached egg on a muffin and my husband had eggs benedict, both were delicious and would definitely go again, very good value for lovely food, the staff as always were very efficient and friendly

Very nice Sunday afternoon meal, very polite & tentative staff will always go & do it again

Very helpful and courteous staff, excellent range of beers and tasty well cooked food. We enjoyed our family get together and overnight stay and can fully recommend the DoE.

Stayed in the hotel last night and went to the Greek night in The Vaults Restaurant. Great Room, Great Food and Great Staff. Everything about my stay was 10/10 I will be returning.

Lovely meal here yesterday for Mother’s Day ..... delish. Staff always very friendly and helpful too, made us all very welcome �. We will definitely be coming back in the near future x thanks again x

I stay here for work and it is excellent. Roxie on reception always gives a warm and friendly greeting, she is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble...love it when I turn up and she is working.

The food in the restaurant is amazing, never had a bad meal yet.

And the staff are lovely, we wanted something from another menu which was no longer running but the waiter went into the kitchen and the chef prepared it for us...fantastic service...other places would have just said no these are the menus tonight.

Friendly staff, great menu options loved the Sunday roast didn’t get to the dessert as it was really filling.

Food was really good, tasty and well presented. Highly recommend.

Finally made it to one of your French nights this evening and was very definitely not disappointed!

The gruyere tart was incredible and the poached salmon was cooked to perfection. And even tho the dessert beat me and I could only manage a few mouthfuls, I enjoyed each one immensely.

Service and all staff were both professional but friendly too.

A fantastic quality of food for such a reasonable price. Will certainly be back as soon as possible.

Amazing Food, me and my partner had the Lamb Roasts, my children had the Beef Roasts followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and Homemade Cheesecake. Great staff, excellent service. Great atmosphere. Would highly recommended!!!!

Beautiful roast dinner. Nice surroundings, very comfortable and affordable too.

Went for a birthday. Good Friday night and it was very busy. Unfortunately not enough staff to cope with everyone’s orders. When food eventually came it was excellent, however one of the party didn’t get theirs and had to eat after everyone else had finished. A shame. Management need to address this problem when they know it’s going to be busy.

We went to the French Evening last nigh it’s a great deal 2 courses and a glass of wine for £15 and it’s only £4 to add a dessert. Starter fantastic wife’s main course brill but my beef sous vide could have starred in Charlie Chaplins film Goldrush. Tough as a boot sole and a tad tiny. I did mention it to the waiting supervisor who said he would speak to the chef. We left an hour later without any response.

The rest of the dish was great and the starters and sweet were brill. I though sous vide meat was supposed t9 be succulent and tender this was neither perhaps the vacuum pump needs overhauling. �
