So, today a family bought a Pint of Strongbow as part of a large group round, and then sat at a table and gave it to a young girl. One of the Staff members then approached the group and asked if the girl had any ID. They said that she didn't need any as they were eating, and as we are a restaurant she was allowed to drink alcohol with a meal and adults with her. When asked how old she was the staff member was told 14.............So to clarify, a 16 or 17 year old may consume alcohol in a licensed premises where there is food being served, not a 14 year old. The 14 year old then walked out of the pub with the pint under her coat, and the rest of the family came to the bar and abused the staff. Here is a link to the Law. https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/…/the-law- on-alcohol-and-unde…/

THREE NIGHTS FOR THE PRICE OF TWO Sundays to Thursdays at the Duke of York. Pay £150 for three nights room only, in a Sea and harbour view room. All are double en-suites .

User

An exciting new offering on our bar. Black Sheep brewery have produced a superb small batch pilsner style Lager on draught. 54 degrees north is 4.5 per cent.

So, this morning mike my cleaner said to me the smoke alarm in room three is hanging off. We go and have a look at it and I take the cover off. Inside I find a bit of coat hanger wire attached to it like an earth, but it looks really dodgy. Can anyone tell me if this legitimate or has someone tried to circumnavigate it to smoke in their room?

User

Sound advice from Sue at the Black Horse.

User

Dalby 10k for me and Phil this morning in aid of North Yorkshire mountain rescue! It’s bloody freezing but onwards and upwards, and downwards and upwards and downwards etc.......

User

Very pleased for all the staff, who’s hard work and dedication make this possible. Thank you to you all, and needless to say we will strive to keep making improvements and make things better.

User

We just love this pub and have done for years ! Busy at times but worth the wait ! Crab sandwiches to die for !

Lovely couple who run the pub ! Great 👍

User

The Duke of York never disappoints. As locals we often visit here purely because the food is amazing! (Highly recommend the steak and ale pie) The pub is cosy and has the feel if a typical old style english pub. It has great views over the harbour and also has a fab choice of drinks. I love gin the hubby loves single malt whisky and we are both well catered for

User

Olde worldy pub with rooms and food, riverside and sea view. Watch the boats. Good menu, Lots of home made food until 9.30pm. Open fire, cozy atmosphere, pleasant staff.

Situated bottom of abbey steps along cobbled streets.

User

Lovely food, had the steak, well cooked with lots of extras on the plate, absolutely gorgeous onion rings! Friendly staff, will definitely return

User

Lovely cup of latte... and splendid view! Pleasant staff too! An excellent resting spot before we climbed the 199 steps!

User

Love this pub overlooking the harbour, great selection of drinks & food, i wish i tried the gin board of a selection of 4 gins of your choice plus fruit & tonic.

I had scampi & chips with garden peas & side salad, loads of scampi.

My partner had the chilli con carne which he said was a bit bland.

We will definitely be back.

User

User

Bostin, we were visiting whitby for a long weekend and we felt like a local in here. We did not get the usual stares of being a visitor. Food was lovely, beer was great, atmosphere electric. Also thanks to our taxi driver who reccomemded it to us and took us there, we asked him where we should eat and this great little pub is where he took us.

User

As always the food at The Duke of York was very good it was just a pity that the barman was a bit surly and offhand. The range of spirits available is exceptional just a pity we were driving and couldn’t partake of a few of them. Of course, the next time we visit Whitby it will be a The Duke of York for a meal

User

Always go to the Duke when in Whitby, this time for a couple of drinks only whilst half of our group climbed to the top of the Priory, as always friendly and clean and packed. Have had food in the past never disappointed

User

Always a little wait for a table but that probably says a lot about its popularity. Staff are always lovely and helpful. Food good quality, made to order. Thank you!

User

A great atmosphere, lovely staff and stunning views of the harbour. A large group of ladies came in loud and half drunk whilst we were there....the security politely informed them this was not acceptable and they peacefully left...well done to this family friendly pub and eatery x

User

Always call in when I am in whitby l have stayed there in the past and I have always been happy with the service
