They no longer have the level of expertise to justify the sky-high prices they charge! If you need anything more than the simplest of repairs, the chances are that they will say it's not possible and try to sell you something new. I went in regarding servicing and repairing some Marzocchi Bomber forks that I bought from them about 15 years ago- they said no way a product that old would be supported, buy a new pair. I looked online and found Windwave, who said they could service and repair them no problem using genuine Marzocchi parts. Local? Go to Leisure Lakes Bikes.

I don't normally do online reviews but the team at The Edge Cycleworks Lancaster were fantastic.

I called them at 10 am on a Sunday (sad i know!) enquiring if they had a TCR in stock as advertised on their site. The phone was answered promptly and I arranged to bring my current bike in and see if we could get the position matched.

I was in the shop over 2 hours measuring up, swapping stems and riding both bikes back-to-back on the turbo. Nothing was too much trouble. I had my last bike 10 years so it's something that does not happen very often and they made the process even more memorable. Thank you!!

Cannondale Supersix SRAM red 22 2017

I had my bike serviced by the guys at The edge on a monday, was ready to collect same day.

After service the bike with speedplay zero pedals and Sram Red groupset was road tested and other than having to tweak the front brake it came back riding perfectly. No components changed, a strip de grease, clean and re build came in at around 70-80 quid.

The next day I took the bike for a ride and a few miles in on a flat a road the chain snapped under no excessive load or shifting. I fell from the bike and as a result the rear derailleur and RH lever was damaged.

The Edge claim it is a defect with the chain and an issue to be taken up with SRAM, though i've never had a problem with SRAM chains and this chain had less than a few hundred miles on it. I've never snapped a chain in 20+ years of riding. Whether due to re linking the chain after service, or a defective chain, who knows?A week later i'm still without a bike and an injured leg. Could've been worse and ended up under a car I guess.

As a gesture of good will Edge have agreed to replace the damaged parts with no labour charge. The parts costs are more expensive by a factor of 20-30% over local shop Vanilla Bikes. Although not a complete price match Edge have met me half way on the price match.

Disappointing with the experience, whoever or whatever is to blame, in all fairness the staff at the Edge have been more than reasonable and the service side of things they are a great shop. Mark has been sympathetic and a great help in trying to get the bike back to its original condition. Stocking levels of components and prices of components let it down slightly. Especially when a smaller local shop stocks one of each of major groupset components and a fair difference in price. If stocking levels were higher and more varied, it would be one of the best bike shops in the lancashire, cumbria area, including wheelbase and paul hewitt cycles. Although most spares are probably next day deliver depends how soon you want something.

In summary for servicing i would recommend the edge over any other bike shop in lancaster area. Having tried everywhere, These's no other bike shop in the area i'd go back to other than them. For the purchase of components only, i'd say look at vanilla bikes just up the road in carnforth.. (10 quid cheaper for a chain, a rear derailleur is about 80 quid less).

Tried to be as honest and open in this review as possible. Cheers guys, will be back again with all servicing and repairs and will recommend to friends in the group.

thanks

My husband took his Planet X triathlon bike for repair of spokes of the carbon wheel. The staff were busy but I told them it was needed for a triathlon in a few days. They reassured me that they could fix the problem and even stated they would work overtime if necessary to get it fixed in time. It wasn't the biggest job in the world in terms of cost, however service like this goes a long way and I will now bring both my bikes in for future servicing etc. I would definitely recommend this shop.

Having used many bike shops over the years, I could not name one that beats The Edge. I have purchased a bike and used them for service - very helpful team, really know their stuff and very trustworthy. Great recent experience with a brake and hub service, very prompt.

Great cycle shop!
... and I'm speaking from long experience. I've been using The Edge for about 12 years, and I've bought 2 high-end road Treks there and a Marin MTB. The staff are always knowledgable and very friendly, either face to face or on the phone, and many times they've helped me out on the spot when I couldn't solve a mechanical. It's a great shop for browsing, and there's usually something on the sale rail worth thinking about. So, the shop has been completely refitted after last year's floods and it's now spacious and modern - a great place to browse. I feel lucky to have them right here in Lancaster.

Really friendly helpful staff. Bought new continental tyres which have made my bike feel amazing! Would recommend to anybody as the first upgrade you make. As a new rider I found them helpful and not at all patronising. Defiantly my preferred bike shop when I am in Lancaster.
