HOW YOU LEARN AT The EDGE School of Creative and Business
The majority of student learning takes place through a range of practical projects and activities common to the Creative Industries. As a student you will work in teams and undertake a range of professional roles. The practical projects include active industry type briefs for example: making a documentary film, creating an advertising campaign, photographing and editing a fashion shoot and planning, starting up and running a social enterprise business. You will recognise this type of learning with exciting real industry outcomes and experiences as relevant for future careers, it is a very engaging. In years 10 and 11 you will also learn core GCSEs which where possible will be part of your practical projects and grounded in real world learning.
YOUR CAREER STARTS AT The EDGE
You will undertake regular work placements to gain real experience of the professional work place and develop skills in professional conduct and customer / client relations. We have a range of partnerships with creative and technical businesses, community focussed charities, social enterprises, groups and councils who will all provide the School with a range of opportunities to help ensure you develop relevant industry and life skills and knowledge. As soon as you start at The EDGE the transition from learning to working begins. When you leave us after year 13 you will have made informed choices about your future pathway. Some of you will have started businesses, some will go on to University and some will secure work with local creative businesses or gain a place on a higher apprenticeship. The Folkestone Studio School enables you to be in control of your future by giving you the relevant qualifications, skills and experiences employers are asking for.
QUALIFICATIONS
Students joining us in Year 10 will take 5 core GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science (double award). In addition to this they will take a range of Creative Practice, Technology, Enterprise and Business qualifications to give them equivalent of up to 10 GCSE’s.
Students joining us in Year 12 will choose a Study Programme in Design, Communication and Web, Business and Enterprise or Film, Television and Media to give them equivalent of 3 A Levels.

A great idea. FSS will be delivering excellent teaching and learning with highly valued creative enterprise skills to learners wanting to explore another route through education towards emplyment in the creative industries.
5* is not enough to justify The EDGE.. deciding to study here for the past two years was by far one of the best decisions I have made.
The tutors/lectures are all so friendly.
However, I want to shout out someone in particular and that is Zak! He is honestly such a credit to The EDGE, I honestly cannot fault him, or the way he teaches.. I couldn't have asked for a better lecturer for the two years. Throughout the two years he pushed me to see my own potential, guided and supported me.
His passion for photography is so inspiring, and it was great to be taught and guided by someone who genuinely knows what they are talking about, and also knows about the photography business.
Can't thank him for the guidance enough, I have the knowledge to smash University in September now, and I know I can do it!
