The Eight Bells sets the bar exceptionally high with its restaurant in a gorgeous old barn. You feel like you're in a medieval dining hall and Henry VIII himself is about to join you for a Hogroast. Sadly on our visit the food wasn't quite up to the standards his highness would demand. All moisture had been drained from my burger - quite an achievement. Luckily the decent beer, friendly service and fascinating interior (partially) saved the day.

London prices, but extremely good food! And friendly service, unlike in London.

We Googled somewhere to eat in Saffron Walden on a whim before setting off from Manchester, so glad we did, what a gem. The dining room is breathtaking, an old tithe barn with vaulted ceilings. The food was excellent, my daughters said best chicken nuggets ever :) The staff were lovely, friendly & very attentive. A lovely evening out, just wished we lived closer to go again, will just have to revisit Saffron Walden.

Thoughtful menu with a great selection of food. It's not the most affordable but worth it and hasn't disappointed us once- we've eaten there about 8 times. Friendly staff, attentive service, lovely home made bread and good selection of drinks. At Christmas they do a delicious set menu and decorate the pub in a really beautiful way. Charming.

An excellent discovery - thanks Google! Probably the best burger I have ever tasted (pork & chorizo) served in an amazing old barn by truly delightful staff...who then suggested the perfect route through the botanical gardens to walk it off before setting back off on our journey. A little gem!

Food was lovely, but I felt sorry for the young man serving at the bar, seemed like it was his first shift and due to it being very busy it was hard for the other bar member to help him, felt he should have had more training before being left. Not his fault at all, but it was obvious he had lack of bar knowledge, otherwise very good
