As a registered charity our vision is to support arts, culture and creativity by delivering an inspirational environment where skills and knowledge can grow. We actively engage with companies and individuals to help them develop personally and professionally and stay connected.

We bring together like-minded people whilst promoting a diverse mix of arts and culture.

Our mission is to make the arts accessible to all. If you would like to get involved please get in touch as we are always welcoming volunteers for a range of activities.

World Class: Our aim is to be the very best we can be in every aspect of our operation and to ensure those who work with us aspire to a similar goal.

This world-class value will be incorporated from our point of service to the products we provide and the people we work with.

Whilst we may not be world class today, we will be tomorrow.

Networked: We will include all organisations and individuals involved in the arts and cultural sector.

We will support all of the creative companies who work with us, by providing an inspirational environment in which they can work and network to expand their skills and knowledge.

In addition, we will actively engage with these companies, and also individuals, to help them stay connected and grow.

Local First: In everything we do it is about our local community first – engaging and providing a better life for those that live or work in North Tyneside.

Heralding from St Albans, Alexis Kings formed in 2015 to create one of the most prominent British rock band coming out of the U.K.
Said to be, 'classic dark rock and roll with a sincere rhythm and blue undertone', their work is a wake up call surrounding London's ever-evolving music scene.
Their debut single 'Squire' blazed a trail that is still garnering attention and streams ranging from the heart of Australia's top radio Networks to the hot vibes of the LA music scene....
Come see the next big thing as they visit the North East at The Exchange on Friday October 12th at 8:30 pm in our bar.

Our current exhibition is called 'Convergencies' by Kathryn and R.D. Wakeman.
This is a transatlantic project as R.D., who is Kathryn's daughter, is a playwright who lives in America.
The work combines words and images that question reality inside the frame and beyond.
... Have a good look as you enjoy the charm of our Cafe Bar.

We just love this stunning image of the Tango Sisterhood here at the Exchange.
Irene Costa and Hannah Johnson are two amazing, experienced dancers and teachers who began dancing Tango as followers. Their love of Tango and the disappointment often felt through having to wait for a leader in order to have a dance led them to learn to lead.
They say,... 'Leading Tango can allow you to show different sides of your personality that aren’t always allowed to shine when you are following. It can allow you to develop confidence and control in the dance, qualities which are also vital to freedom and expression in your dance as a follower.'
Beyond this, they love the idea of women helping women. They want to create an environment where women support each other and build on their knowledge and experience as followers.
You can explore this with them on Saturday 15th September from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm for £15.00.

This post is from Tim Jasper - Musical Director and really makes us to pleased to play a part in the North East Stephen Sondheim Theatre - NESST's journey...
'Well tonight we did it, debuted a show never performed in the North East to a great audience who came away saying how excellent it was, how well they sang, how inspiring the direction was, how clever the use of technology was.
This is just the start for NESST and just the start of our run of shows but I am so happy that... it was a success tonight and I couldn’t have done it without a lot of support.'
You can still see the wonderful work of Tim and co. here tonight and tomorrow. Get in touch with the box office for more details...

New poster alert from our friends at YourPrintDepartment!
The 'Keyboard Wizard', Bob Malone, is playing here for one night only on Friday November 2nd at 8:00 pm.
For fans of John Fogerty, this concert is simply not to be missed. Malone tours with Fogerty's band and plays on Ringo Starr's latest album, but he is such a talented musician in his own right.

On Tuesdays, there is a Contemporary Choreography Class from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm for ages eight to twelve.

One month today and finally we will get to see the atmospheric and dashing performance of Northern Stage's The War of the Worlds!
Set in the North East, it cleverly weaves in references to its industrial heritage and inventions, from shipbuilding to the first street in the UK to be lit by electric light bulbs. It is accompanied by an eerie soundscape that drives the narrative.
This is creating real buzz here at The Exchange and tickets are selling well so don't delay and g...et yours today to see this much loved tale brought to life by this magnificent company.
Performed on Saturday October 6th at 8:00 pm. Tickets from the box office or www.ticketsource.co./theexchange

Worked with this little gem for a comedy club last night. Great staff, great place to be and you can't argue for £3 a pint!

User

What a real gem of a venue and a great place to meet, drink and eat for all the family. Great show and brilliant staff

We played a gig here on 12th August. I can't fault the venue or the staff. A wonderful space to perform and in such an amazing building. The hospitality we received was above and beyond the norm and nothing was too much trouble. I can't recommend the people and place highly enough as a performer or a punter. Thanks you.

This is a true gem of a venue in North Shields. A magical space with fantastic people running it and a fabulous feel about the place. The auditorium is wonderful space for music and sound - I did a Gong Sound Bath here two weeks ago and the staff were beyond wonderful. I am doing another whole day workshop here on Sunday December 4 and I know it will amazing to work here again. I aim to use it weekly. The cafe/bar is also a wonderful place - very cosy and all at The Exchange make you feel at home.

One amazing venue and wonderful staff who have gone that extra mile in supporting my new business grow from strength to strength - you can catch me at 'My Story Adventures' every Monday in the spectacular auditorium hall running sessions for babies and children to help promote life-long confident and happy readers. The big screen and multi-media system beautifully brings stories to life - taking little ones on new adventures! I also thoroughly enjoyed holding 'The Art with a Big Open Heart Exhibition' for 'Save the Children' over the summer - Karen Knox (events) went above and beyond her role, and became a good friend along the way. I recommend this community-centred charity 100%! Go enjoy it! From a life-long The Exchange Fan - Emma Nelson

Marvelous place, art, music, good real ales and lagers. Great venue for cyclist as bikes can be supervised in courtyard. An excellent venue for events.

User

Lovely atmosphere in The Exchange. Have been to a few plays here. This week The Filletting Machine. Great atmosphere. Lots of character. A very pleasant bar/cafe area to socialise in before and after. One day I'll go on my bike and have a cuppa in the courtyard as there were cyclists enjoying a drink there and they could leave their bikes safely outside.

User

I regularly use this amazing local venue for my Afternoon Tea events and Tyneidols Heritage Tour stop offs. Lovely staff, always welcoming and very easy to get along with. A jewel of a venue for North Shields.

Art, music and food as well. Difficult to find fault.

User

A very good venue, great event hall, great bar area, drinks reasonably priced, staff very attentive, enjoyed last night and guess what I'm back again tonight.

User

A fantastic venue and a jewel for North Shields . The whole team make this a really great place. All that plus lovely cakes!

User

Stopped for a quick snack in the lovely sunny courtyard. My company had beef sandwiches which looked really nice and i had a warm fruit scone with jam. Lovely and REAL tea

User

Great venue. Great Atmosphere But the service at the bar is dire when there is a big function. They must lose so much revenue because people just give up . Bar staff are so laid back you could fall asleep wouldn't last 5 minutes in a city centre pub. Beat the que take your own alcohol.

User

I have had some great times at the Exchange, but have just heard about the organisation's terminating the Cafe bar without notice and I am absolutely disgusted.
