About The Feminist Library

Founded in 1975, the Feminist Library is a growing archive of materials relating to feminism, led by a collective of volunteers. The Library is also an intersectional community space, which is trans-inclusive and welcomes visitors of all genders.

The Feminist Library Description

Founded in 1975, the Feminist Library is a growing archive of materials relating to feminism, led by a collective of volunteers. We support research, activism and community projects.

Our non-fiction collection consists of about 5, 000 books dating from 1900 to the present day. The collection is very strong in the areas of the arts, politics and the Women’s Liberation Movement, women’s history, and mental and physical health. We also have about 2, 500 works of fiction from all around the world, the majority of which are in English and some in various European and Latin American languages.

Our poetry collection of some 500 publications represents a significant number of little-known and /or self-published woman poets, as well as poetry by more well-known and commercially published women.

An estimated 1, 500 periodicals titles are represented. They date from the late 1960’s to the present day and they occupy about 85 metres of library shelving. We also hold a growing collection of self-published zines.

The Feminist Library Bookshop is open at the Library every Saturday selling new and used books and periodicals, zines, contemporary magazines, badges, totes and other merchandise. Our stalls appear at a wide range of events in London and elsewhere.

Keep an eye on our website and Facebook events for our exciting programme.

Today is the day!: 100 years ago today, (some) women won the right to vote. Join Feminist Archive UK in celebrating those still fighting for equality 2day by signing up to their online record of feminist solidarity. It only takes 3 minutes and it would be amazing if we can actually get 100 people up there by the end of the day! #Activism100 #Vote100

Great news!! The Crowdfunder team have just informed us that we can keep running our crowdfunding campaign indefinitely to help fully fund our move! 💪💪💪 It is great news for the Library, as we still have some £14,000 to go before we have covered all of the costs of our move!
So please help us spread the word! Let your friends and colleagues know... 😍😘😘😘

We did it!!! 💪💪💪💪 We have raised enough money to move the Library! But we couldn't have done it without all the fab feminists who've supported us on this incredible journey: our donors, friends who helped promote the campaign on social media and beyond, our fabulous feminist design team, journalists who’ve given us coverage, and all the amazing artists and authors who’ve donated their time and work to make our Crowdfunder a success: Eva Megias, Lucie Russell of Drawing People Together, family of Astra Blaug, Helen Atkinson of York Printmakers, Shannon Bono, Daiane Medeiros, Megan Jordan, Syeda Alishba Amin-ud Din, Ali Smith, Katherine Connelly and Sarah Waters 😍😘😘😘😘

great library, material and fab women behind it

User

When men are busy invading women's spaces; pathetically attempting convince people they can become women and de-platforming women for being women; its time to reeducate the public about men's millennia long global oppression of women. Good Job! Opening one here soon!

Jamás me he sentido discriminada en Feminist Library.

User

Thank you for this sanctuary in the heart of London...inspiring resources, a welcoming environment and most of all dedicated staff, who I believe are mostly volunteers and put their heart and soul in to something truly meaningful, worthwhile and very relevant especially now more than ever! Long live the Feminist Library, may we see you grow and see others popping up across the UK and beyond.

User

Such a fabulous resource! Thank you for keeping this available to us it’s so important to remember our Herstory

User

One of my absolute favourite spots in London! Tons of feminist literature, mainly dating the Second Wave. My favourite room is periodicals - feminist magazines and newsletters from the 60s, 70s and 80s a massive goldmine if you're a feminist!

User

Great selection and lovely volunteers

User

Great place - lovely people! I could spend hours there reading through all the zines.

User

Great collection of material for research and interesting talks and events.

User

A unique place run by people full of passion.

User

A fantastic resource for all women who protect and defend womans freedom and happiness. Every woman should support the Feminist Library.

User

I don't understand how they have such a good rating, they are drunk on the koolaid of the anti male sentiment
