What a discovery! Great choice of ales. Dark Star Sunburst, 200+ miles north of its Sussex brewery retailing at £3 a pint. And a versatile fridge including Flensburger Pilsner - with a proper swing top - from Germany's most northern city. And not only that, they have a local CAMRA award for cider pub of the year 2016. Plus an affable owner. Now that is a rare combination.

Went a few weeks ago, on a Thursday evening on my way back from Warrington. Superb beers, and great friendly service.

Very quirky little bar with a lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to take my my sister & brother-in-law when they are over from Oz next year. They will love it!

Upstairs is a lot bigger than you'd think! It was lovely and cool with the air conditioning on, a great place to escape from the outdoor heat. Service was very good at the bar and the booths were comfortable. The toilets were clean.....which is always an added bonus.

( I wish they sold some snacks like nuts, crisps but they don't 🤗). We will be going back for evening drinks at the weekend 😁

Traveled over 6000 miles to sample the beers in the Firkin...excellent selection in a classic setting...if only more pubs were like this.

The best thing to happen to Newton in ages! Great friendly bar, with the best range of beers for miles!

Only hqd one pint but was told about it before hand ...great selection of beers and staff very helpful in choosing and tasting ..be back soon for a longer sample hopefully

One of my favourite watering holes. Great beer too; there's always something to cater for everyone's taste. Long may She run.

Love this place! Fantastic atmosphere and ales. Been in a few times with friends but this was the first time I brought my doggy in, and straight away he was given a bowl of water (which, after our long walk, he very much appreciated!). Really appreciate how dog-friendly this place is - it's the only local place that is. Also, thanks to the guy who gave me some poop bags after I ran out (my baby didn't poop in the pub, just on our walk!). Highly recommend this place for the tasty and interesting ales/ciders, the fab customer service, and just the lovely feeling :)

I'm not a beer drinker so wasn't sure if The Firkin would be for me - but it really is! Great atmosphere, good choice of drinks especially (for us) the cider - so nice to be somewhere where people are so friendly and you can talk - another great addition to our lovely High Street!

Great place to relax. Drink excellent beers. Not to mention a good selection of spirits and wines! I look forward to the firkin opening every week!

First visit to this bar. Lovely beer. Lovely vibe. Very dog friendly, which makes it even better!

First time visit yesterday as a customer after Newton-Le-Willows beer festival. Fantastic venue on the high street. Nicely laid out inside and a fantastic choice of beers whatever your favourite styles are. The friendly and professional bar team know their stuff. I only wish i had somewhere like this within walking distance of my house!

First time visit after the Indian next door. Bustling friendly atmosphere with an excellent range of beers and ciders. Comfortable place and dog friendly. What's not to like.

Brilliant little boozer. Great selection of American style IPA, and bottles. Also a constantly changing line up of real ales.

Brilliant bar! We will definitely be visiting again..but next time I won't be driving so will get to sample some of the great selection of beers and ciders on offer. Excellent bar staff aswell. 10/10!!
