The Fisherman's Wife is a seafood restaurant located in Whitby, serving traditional fish and chips as well as a variety of seafood and non-seafood dishes. We now have a new takeaway hatch with a dog friendly area.

The Fishermans Wife, Khyber Pass Whitby Description

Our first fish and chip shop was established in Halton, Leeds in 1960 with a goal of serving the best fish and chips in Yorkshire. All of our fish came from Whitby, so 3 years later we opened The Fisherman's Wife seafood restaurant in Whitby.

The Fisherman's Wife serves traditional fish and chips along with an extensive range of seafood and other dishes at its superb seafood restaurant in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby.

With high quality, locally sourced ingredients our friendly, helpful staff will serve you fantastic fish and chips in our light and airy restaurant whilst you sit back and enjoy some of the best views in Whitby.

Went today. The staff were lovely and seated us at a sea view table. We both got the haddock and chips and it was really good. The batter was light and crispy. Hardly any grease. Will definitely be visiting again

User

Really lovely food choice and a great view. The other reviews nearly put us off but we needn’t have worried.

User

Our favourite place. Best fish and chips, best staff

User

Me and a friend stopped here for lunch during our day trip to Whitby. It was a Sunday lunchtime but we were given a table straight away and served quickly. Food arrived quickly too and was delicious, some of the best onion rings we've had!! The haddock was beautiful too and we had great service from our waiter who was happy to have a chat and suggest some places to visit in York too.

User

Loved the fish/chips/bread but bit on the pricey side as you have to pay extra for the mushy peas and cup of tea whereas a lot of places include all the above for the same price or less. I'd shop around in future.

User

It was our first visit to this restaurant as we usually eat somewhere at the other end of town. We found the service good and the food to be excellent having the crab salad and haddock and chips. The desserts were equally good. Well recommended.

User

Driving down from Northumbria to Essex, we decided we couldn't pass Whitby and not visit. I looked up fish and chips and we chose The Fishermans Wife. Great choice. The small haddock and chips was perfect for me (the batter really light and crisp), and step mums fish pie was, she said, delicious. The rhubarb cheesecake was also really tasty...not too sweet, and very light. The only downside was the noise from the kiddies roundabout outside the window which was a bit intrusive, but there were plenty of other tables we could have sat at away from the window.

User

Delicious lunchtime meal for the five of us. Great view watching the waves crash and the rain lash at the windows! Mini egg cheesecake for dessert was amazing. Great first visit 😁

User

Delicious food at fab prices with fantastic views! We were seated quickly, the food came promptly and was lovely and hot. The staff we really friendly and we loved having a window seat with a sea view

User

Called in for late lunch yesterday - we chose a whole lobster in garlic butter and king prawns to share with salads and chips and 6 oysters on ice - and a cold glass of wine - I’ve got to say it was the best and biggest lobster wev ever had !! Plenty for 2 people ! The only thing i would say is skinny fries would have gone better but I’m only mentioning that not as a complaint just a suggestion because it was fabulous

User

Called in at The Fisherman’s Wife at around 7.45pm on our second evening in Whitby, following a recommendation from the host at our B&B. They were due to close at 8.00pm so we weren’t sure what to expect. We were shown to a window table for four with great sea views. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Between us we sampled the oysters, scallops, sea bass, and seafood curry. The verdict was unanimous. They were all excellent.

User

Always our first meal when we come up to whitby, we love it! Such lovely staff, and very accommodating when food isn’t on the menu but we’ve had before. P.s the sauce vierge is to die for, would love the recipe

User

A fantastic restaurant with great views across the bay. The food was lovely and fresh. Service was excellent. Our waitress could not have been any more helpful. Thank you Jessica and I'm glad we helped give you a giggle with our boys. Will be back for sure. Thank you

User

Went yesterday to the Fisherman’s wife. Food was excellent and so was the service. Only downside is that they now charge separately for everything. Last year you got the fish and chips with bread and tea. This year you get charged for the bread and the tea on top of the meal. There were adults and 2 small children in our party. 3 medium fish and chips and 1 small fish and chips plus pot of tea for 2 and bread and butter vis us £69.00. A slice of bread and butter is 0.39p! We had been to Uno restorante on the Friday -same no. 4 people and same 2 children and we had starters, main courses (inc steak and parmesans) and drinks which came to £83.00 for us all. If you’re a family party out for the day in Whitby it is very expensive for fish and chips.

User

On the expensive side as tea was NOT included and a thimble size pot of peas was £1.59!

NO seniors choice as in your York establishment but quality as good.

Toilets need more frequent inspection to ensure cleanliness

User

Great food. Good view. Good service. Shame the deserts are not quite as good as the starters and mains. Best fish and chips in whitby imo

User

Fish and chips where really nice, restaurant located in a nice spot and staff were lovely only down fall was the price for the portion size but was still a good experience

User

Usually come to this establishment every time we come to Whitby and it’s usually a five star however somethings changed whether it’s fish supplier or fish fryer but would rate it down this time as fish was very poor quality way below usual standards. Service was spot on as usual but at the end of the day it was a huge disappointment I’m afraid.

User

As other reviews have said the toilets weren't the best. The ladies were littered with toilet paper on the floor. It wasn't busy when we went so it wouldn't have taken long for a member of staff to pop there head in and have a clean up. The food was OK. We had better food at a couple of other restaurants in Whitby but nothing to really complain about. Staff were friendly and they were good with the kids and sorted them out whilst hubby reparked the car.. It was raining so he dropped us off. The kids menu is quite plentiful but a couple of choices of dessert instead of ice cream would have pleased my 7 year old. Wouldn't rush back.
