We had lunch with you yesterday and your staff are always amazing and polite. The young blonde lady goes through every detail from the specials board without any hesitation. Service is always quick and efficient and the food is beautiful which is why we always return.

User

Took my daughter for lunch yesterday and they gave her a lovely on the house flute of prosecco to wish her a happy 18th Bday and was pleased to see staff who remember you even though not been in for a while. Will definitely be back very soon as the garden looked enticing in the spring like sunshine

User

The food is amazing. Best steak ever. The service is brilliant and the staff are helpful and friendly. They sung happy birthday to me. I was given a glass of birthday prosecco and the chef wrote happy birthday in chocolate on my dessert board. Really lovely.

User

One of our favourite places, particularly in the summer when you can be on the balcony or in the garden. Very friendly staff.

User

Not been to the Fishes for a while, though I had been going since being a child. We were two large groups celebrating a birthday. The food was delicious each and everyone of us loved the food and the staff were so friendly and efficient so I'd like to congratulate them. They even catered well for the vegetarian and vegan in our party who also enjoyed their food, especially dessert! Well done The Fishes. We certainly won't leave it so long next time!

User

It's was our third visit to The Fishes this time with family and two children, some of our party were running behind...we explained and the staff were lovely and said no problem, the children couldn't decide on what to eat, so were offered a couple of alternatives to the menu...which was brilliant thankyou...All in all it was a lively evening.

User

Great roast today. I didn’t want my scallops to finish. Lovely staff too.

User

Great food, great atmosphere, great service & wonderful staff

User

Fabulous Sunday lunch - it was busy and that's always a good sign. Fantastic service and phenomenal food! Will definitely be visiting again

User

Don't usually do reviews but... my Son booked for us to meet up with our visiting family from Florida U.S.A. He had not seen his cousin for some 20 plus years and they in turn were pleased to meet his lovely wife and growing family. We enjoyed a leisurely drink as each party rondesvued before being escorted to a lovely conservatory area. We were seated on a long family table as a party of ten. The children were delighted to be able to reach up to the table well as cushions were very comfortably provided.

The service was very friendly and the waitresses very attentive. The food was cooked to perfection and still nice and hot, despite numbers (and children's preferences) to satisfy!

Our visitors were encouraged to try some of the more traditional English dishes that we Brits easily take for granted. They found new and definitely exciting taste for their pallets....especially the teens who rarely tried anything away from the 'norm' according to their Mom. Lots of comments like - oh my goodness I have missed out on this all of my life!! And - will you make me custard when we come to visit your house? It was a real joy.

We were made very comfortable and not at all rushed. In fact when the children became a little distracted during after dinner coffee, they were able to go out into the wooded garden area to run free. Joined by teens and Grandmother they had a splendid time and met with other children as they pleased.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all - A great day for all concerned...

Thank you staff of The Fishes, Oxford who did not overpower the day but served us really well - seemless and effortlessly (on our part).

My Apologies for it being lengthy - but you did ask!

User

Absolutely exquisite food. Service was amazing and I can't wait to go back there for my birthday on the 22nd. I had the squid to start with, burger for lunch and banana pud.... my partner had the Camembert for starter and the galmon which was huge and delicious and my mother has the fish cake which was superb... filled with loads of fish deffo recommend xx

User

My partner and I had a delicious meal here last night. We sat outside on the terrace around the conservatory, which is a lovely setting. The only problem we had was actually seeing what we were eating! The heater lamp and light over our table and the next 2 along were not working so we were chilly and we couldn't see our food, which was disappointing. We asked for the candles to be lit on our table but 3 tealights just wasn't enough. Food was great , although we both agreed that 20 pound for a fish risotto was very steep! We would go back but please get the lights sorted outside!

User

Really lovely little tucked away pub... treated to lunch by my folks as it was my first full day away from all 3 children. Only knew about the place as my parents had been to a wedding previously. The menu is quirky, which was lovely but, not a huge amount of choice if you don't like fish. Expensive- not somewhere we could just go as a family due to the cost but it was lovely to sit on the terrace. Very busy, took a little while for food but even when the sun went it, it was a nice spot!

User

I was going to leave a 1* as there was not one vegan option on the entire menu. All hot veg was either cooked in the same oil with animal bodies or smothered in cow's breast milk. After a discussion with your wonderful staff, the chef pulled out all stops and cooked me the most delicious animal free food. THANK YOU! ! Will give 5 stars when vegan options are part of the fixed menu.

User

I paid £13 for a burger which I thought could be cheaper. Drinks are pricey but the staff are very friendly.

We sat out in the Front and had to endure a large family (which were eating inside) allow their children to constantly jump out the window and then run around the car park. Oddly, a lot of the family then vacated the Fishes through said window too. This isn't the pub's fault, it was just...weird.

User

A lovely setting . We have been previously for lunch when we've visited family .

Was disappointed with the long wait for food to arrive at our table . Food when it did arrive wasn't particularly hot .

The server was soooooo OTT , felt like asking her if she wanted to join us .

An expensive disappointing lunch was had by all

User

Disappointed only had sandwich and chips, came out different to the menu and had been left under the light so it was toasted, wasn’t offered any sauces, had a Mocha coffee and had to send back as I could taste detergent in it.

User

Visited Sunday evening for birthday celebation having also had a voucher from my daughter to help celebrate the evening. Been coming here for years, shocked to see it virtually empty and as evening wore on, it became apparent why.

Service was awful with staff congregated in kitchen, having a drink !! so had to go & find them !. Roast beef was tough, thin & fatty. Mix up with vouchers - young inexperienced staff, mainly students or travellers without a clue how to treat guests.

Mix up with vouchers, and made to feel guilty - no Managers in sight - spoilt our evening totally - total disappointment.

User

Nice venue but hugely overpriced food. The Salmon starter was fine but the main of rump steak was tough and despite promise of being served with mushrooms, tomato, onion rings and chips only had a few chips. When I asked for the extras only onion rings arrived. For more than £25 you expect better. The steak sandwich (at 1/2 the cost) contained more meat that my main. Terrible value.
