About The Fowlers Farm

The Fowlers Farm in Braintree is a country pub and restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character.

The Fowlers Farm Description

Fowlers Farm has been in existence for over 500 years, starting life as a farmhouse. The farm became a focus for locals during the Second World War when they persistently tried to sabotage the searchlight situated just outside the house for fear of bombing.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

This pub had a great family atmosphere we're we can even bring our pugs me and my partner are here at least once a week and can not fault the staff there new dog menu well we have to very happy and full pugs to try walk home and for a small price the outdoor area is all ways clean of derby the trees mask the noise of the traffic

User

I'm not sure why my experience was so different from some others here but we popped in on good Friday, on the off chance and were seated immediately. The service was great. Friendly and efficient waitresses even though the place was busy when we arrived. There was a full selection of menu choices and our dishes were lovely.

I will definitely be going back

Thanks for a nice evening

User

I have never had a bad meal at Fowler’s Farmi in the last 10 years and that includes Christmas Day dinners over the past 5 years. This next is to the lovely waitresses. XXX

User

Had a lovely meal and the service was very good too, great atmosphere

User

Good roast dinner within lovely quaint pub only complaint was the additional side of cauliflower cheese as they appeared to have forgotten the cheese , very dry .

The staff as a whole there are awesome every single one of them love em all to bits it’s the main managers attitude I can’t stand, been trying to get hold of him about my p45 in witch his spine or buts ain’t grown to even tell me that I’ve been fired! This was 3 weeks ago give or take now tell me how your are supposed to get any finances sorted out when nothing has been officially confirmed? Not forgetting the little girl I have that I need to feed but as long as he is sleeping alright at night, he is an awful manager who can’t sort problems out and delegates problems to other people, (Charlie knows what I mean) don’t think you can go to another branch with out getting this sorted jo because if I haven’t received conformation my sacking to I can get money for my family I WILL take this higher and you really wouldn’t want that on a eve of a big move now will you?

I didn’t want to have to do this but it’s been weeks now and I think it’s only fair hat I know what’s going on, I don’t expect a reply from the manager him self as I doubt his nuts have dropped down from his stomach yet.

When arriving asking for a table for 4 & 2 children we were told to sit in the bar area and that because of that we wouldn’t get table service despite ordering food, we’d order at the bar (no problem) - however, there seemed to be plenty of tables free throughout our entire stay in the dining area, so I do wonder as to why we were placed in the bar area.

Ordered a Prawn & Lobster Sea Food Cocktail - only had two chunks of lobster and about 20 prawns with a huge dollop of mayonnaise on top, menu says “dressed” with lobster mayonnaise - it wasn’t, it was thrown together.

When this was mentioned to your waitress, she gave me the most god awful look, like she was shocked I’d even said anything, she then stood there and argued that “that is how it comes it’s shredded lobster” that’s not shredded, that’s two small lumps of fish.

Had a burger for my main, well I didn’t, because it still had a heartbeat so it was sent back (a refund was given for the main which was appreciated).

Decided to try a desert instead considering I’d eaten almost nothing so far, and surprisingly that was fine, a warm chocolate brownie & ice cream, I’m guessing you couldn’t get that wrong.

User

Haven't been here for a while, won't be coming back in a hurry, mediocre food and service wasn't great although friendly, we got the wrong burger but charged for the more expensive one, onion rings were raw. Wasn't asked at all how our food was, very disappointing

User

very disappointed to be rung half an hour before our dinner booking to be told they couldn't accommodate booking due to no hot water !! then had to wrangle deposit back over the phone.

User

What an awful experience we had Saturday night

Booked for a 60th birthday party, throughout the meal we was made aware you had run out of 6 dishes! A mixed grill we had hadn't been plated properly and the sausage had come out later as we complained, a medium steak was barely cooked and had the same consistency of an old boot, and to finish it off our bill was wrong by £20 (that I got changed in the end)

Such a shame as my mother makes sure to come here for all of her occasions!

Shame that rather than respond, my comments are deleted

Went for lunch today, restaurant was approximately 20% full. Arrived at about 12.10pm and choose a main course from the fixed price menu which gave two courses for £11.95. Meal arrived 25 minutes later and was reasonable. Ordered a brownie and creme brulee for dessert. After waiting 25 minutes for two simple desserts - it was now 1.25p I gave up cancelled explaining that it was a ridiculous time to serve these simply prepared dishes - the waitress agreed - and could not wait any longer. Was charged the full price from the main menu even though the desserts were cancelled due to their poor service. Will not be going again.

User

Well what a real let down. Booked for Mothers Day meal for 7pm got there they sat us down took our drinks order. When drinks arrived we ordered what food we wanted then to be told that most of the menu was sold out. All that was left neither my daughter or I liked so told them we would be leaving. Would have been good if they had told us about it before we sat down. This isn't the first time this has happened. A couple of weeks ago we went for Sunday lunch only to be told they had no roasts. I'm afraid I will not be going to Fowlers Farm ever again which is a shame cos it used to be so good.

User

We visited Fowlers Farm on Tuesday 25 July, what a mistake. The general food service was OK, kids meals were also OK. However we (three adults and three kids) waited a long time for our table to be cleared and deserts to be served. After a short wait (initially you don't pay attention to how long you have waited) we asked for our deserts, 45 minutes later and three further requests we gave up waiting and asked to speak to a manager. There was 'no excuse' available for the reason we were not being served, apologised to or even being acknowledged.... just general poor service. So 45+ minutes waiting, four separate requests being made......they still couldn't serve some apple pie!!

User

Very very rude staff, treated me and my friends like we were underage trying to get served even though we all had I.D, even clapped her hands at us before asking for I.D almost like she wanted us to be caught out, we actually decided to leave before she came back to take our order as she was so rude. Used to love coming here for a drink but won’t bother again.

User

Turned up having booked for my daughter's birthday lunch. After being shown to a table we were given a long list of what was not available because it had been mothers' day the day before. It must have come as a surprise to them or something. We had a really nice lunch in Wildwood, Braintree instead where there was a full menu, good service and they apparently had had a very busy mothers day the day before. Fowlers doesnt seem to take any notice of these reviews anyway.

User

Three of us came for a birthday meal at 12-15 yesterday was told no roast dinner no lamb. Two members of the party had fish and chips both fish very very dry lots of batter tho. Waitress thought I was joking when she came over asked was all ok with meal and I said fish was horrid.i know you can do better but yesterdays was appalling. Not sure I visit again. Do seem to hear a bit lately of the standard of food at Fowler’s farm

User

This is the first and last time I will eat here. My food arrived cold, I sent it back and when it was returned to me it was clear it was the same food but microwaved. I was also missing the veg. We were not the only people, the ladies on the table next to us had a really bad experience with cold sea food. Not good at all. Total waste of money. I’m not sue where all the people who left the good reviews are eating normally ?

User

One of the worst meals I've had. I will start at the beginning...

We came a month or two ago and my husband was unable to eat his steak because it was too chewy. We have them the benefit of the doubt.

We came again today and I was presented with the most disgusting "wrap" I've seen. It was dry, over cooked and bland. I mentioned to the sever that I was concerned by the look of it and she just stared blankly back at me. I ate it because our food took over an hour to come and I was hungry. It was disgusting. They brought my son an adult meal, which was not what I asked for and then said it would be 5/6 minutes for a new one. 15 minutes passed and that is when I left to sit in the car. I should also mention that thebar staff had a horrendous attitude and even visibly cringed when my baby made noice. Not good customer service, horrible food and vacant/inadequate staff. We won't be returning.

User

I’ve write a review on this restaurant before which wasn’t great!

London prices on food and wine.

I had the steak pie. Probably 3 bits of steak in. One but was inedible. Was very hot though. Mash, carrots, cabbage and gravy - Luke warm!!

Not impressed.
