The most important date in the UK Friesian calendar this year. The official KFPS Studbook inspections.
Congratulations to all the owners whoŌĆÖve entered their horses this year to make sure it happens.
If youŌĆÖve got the day free its a great opportunity to see lots of friesians in one place and to learn a little more about how and why they are graded for the studbook.

Thank goodness for the rain as the planned hosepipe ban has been called off. Our Friesian's love playing with the hosepipe as captured here by Sandy Kitching.
We try to be very resourceful with water and have 3 x 1000 litre containers in which we collect rainwater from the barn roof to re-cycle for the horses drinking water which they much prefer over tapwater.

Gill has been coming to ride my friesians since I first started the ŌĆśExperience DaysŌĆÖ and weŌĆÖve enjoyed so many memorable outings over the years.
IŌĆÖve never met anyone with such a positive and happy outlook on life who really knows how to make the most of every day. Her infectious smile and laughter always guarantee a fun filled day for us and the horses.
Gill loves to challenge herself and learn new skills and this year she wanted to work on her jumping so has been taking ...regular jumping lessons.
WeŌĆÖve visited the amazing Craven Country Ride a number of times over the last few years where theres been lots of refusals, run outs, bunny hops and of course the odd brilliant jump! I donŌĆÖt jump my horses on a regular basis so inevitably there is a lot of laughter, albeit hysterical at times as horses and riders try to figure out how to get from one side (of a log on the ground) to the other ¤śé.
Last week Gill and I had our third visit of the year and were blessed to have Sandy there to capture some of the special moments of the day that I thought you might like to see.
Joining her and getting some expert advise on how to use the camera was Molly Owen. Molly first visited me 3 years ago when she just came and sat on one of my original boys, Ster gelding Hidde (Jasper 366), and became completely besotted with friesians! This year I agreed she could do her week of work experience from school with me and a lesson with Sandy was an added bonus!
Gill was riding my 8yo gelding Hannes who she had also taken round the week before. To see them working so well together was an absolute joy and they both seemed to be having the time of their lives ¤śŹ
This time I took my beautiful, golden brown friesian (I know sheŌĆÖs meant to be black ¤ś£) Doutzen (Arjen 417) who is so genuine and really loves to jump. We also had the wonderful little pocket rocket fell pony Jack with his mum Jodie who has worked with me for over 5 years.
This was a superb day that we can all relive over and over again thanks to SandyŌĆÖs photography ¤ōĘ

IrenaŌĆÖs boyfriend Rob treated her to a 1/2 day experience with us for her birthday a few weeks ago.
Like many of our visitors she just wanted to be around the friesians and indulge her passion by spending lots of time with them on the ground. The boys and girls were more than happy to help!!
Having undergone back surgery a little while ago we kept the riding to inside the arena with a gentle walk and trot so she could get the feel of what it is like to sit on a friesian.
... Sandy Kitching was on hand to capture some special moments from IrenaŌĆÖs time with the horses.

Deborah contacted me earlier this year to see if I could help make her dream come true.
Like many of us, sheŌĆÖd fallen in love with Friesian Horses and wanted to come and spend time with them. Although sheŌĆÖd had a few riding lessons over the years she did not class herself as a rider and sadly now suffers with mobility difficulties so canŌĆÖt pursue it.
DeborahŌĆÖs dream was to have the chance to sit on a Friesian and have some pictures taken.
... My Kroon mare Anja is ideal for situations like this so after a tour of the horses we got Deborah up in the saddle and took her and Anja for a walk round the arena and up into some of our woods.
Sandy Kitching was on hand to capture DeborahŌĆÖs special day and heres a few of my favourite moments.

One of my favourite parts of the Friesian ¤śŹ. The soft, silky nose that you just canŌĆÖt resist Ōś║’ĖÅ.

Huge thank you to Sarah DobsonŌĆÖs daughter Freya for putting together this wonderful video. This is a small collection of pictures and videos of some of the things we got up to in June here at The Friesian Experience.

It is really hard to think that about 4 months ago we were constantly wearing waterproofs and our outdoor crew were in a quagmire. Today we are at the complete opposite - dusty land, brown grass & all our natural becks they drink from have totally dried up! We will have to remind ourselves of this when the weather eventually breaks.

Big birthdays are a great excuse to make memories through unique experiences. Yesterday was one of those days for Lisa whose husband Jonathan arranged a day full of surprises that I think sheŌĆÖll never forget.
The morning started with a flight from the South of England in an exceptionally stylish helicopter from Phoenix Helicopters ¤Üü
During the flight Jonathan let Lisa know she was coming to spend the day with our friesian horses, a secret even their children Phoebe and Jack... had managed to keep! Its safe to say there were a few tears shed - and not just because he forgot to pack her socks and gloves ¤ś£
Two of my originals, 16yo Hoitze and 17yo Model Mare Femma, whoŌĆÖd watched the helicopter land from the next door field, were first to greet the family and show off their natural fascination with people!
Once at the yard Lisa met the other horses. As a Friesian would be her dream horse we discussed more about the characteristics of the breed, the many qualities and differences they have and how and why they are so closely guarded and monitored by the KFPS Royal Friesian Studbook.
After some time spent grooming and pampering 8yo gelding Hannes and Ster mares Renske and Doutzen, Lisa hopped on a couple in the arena. Hannes was her favourite so we headed off for a hack through Cartmel village and across Cartmel Racecourse before heading back to our fields where we just spent time playing with the horses whilst Sandy Kitching snapped away with her camera!
Hannes was more than happy to pose for pictures with the helicopter and even more obliging to give Lisa several thrilling gallops through the field!
The day ended all too soon but I think we managed to secure LisaŌĆÖs passion for the friesian and hopefully one day soon sheŌĆÖll have a black beauty of her own ¤É┤ ¤śŖ

With all this beautiful weather many of our visitors who've been staying with us in Greenbank Farm B&B have been able to relax at the end of the day in the front garden, with a glass of wine, and take in this beautiful, peaceful view. (even though on this occasion the friesians in front of the house were clearly hiding ¤śé )
