The Gainsborough Bath Spa

About The Gainsborough Bath Spa

The Gainsborough Bath Spa is a YTL Classic Hotel with 99 rooms & suites and exclusive access to Bath's naturally warm, mineral-rich waters.

The Gainsborough Bath Spa Description

Open from 1st July 2015 in the centre of Bath, the Gainsborough Bath Spa is Britain’s only natural thermal spa hotel.

As a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, The Gainsborough Bath Spa occupies two historic buildings with distinguished Georgian and Victorian façades in the heart of the World Heritage Site. Named after the artist, Thomas Gainsborough, the hotel is designed to be welcoming, elegant, vibrant and social.

The 99 guest rooms and suites are custom furnished, subtly referencing period details combined with modern facilities and comforts including complimentary Wi-Fi. The guest rooms and suites are airy and bright with views across the city to the surrounding hills.

The Gainsborough is honoured to be partnering with world-renowned chef, Johann Lafer. Johann's 'Dining without Borders' gourmet philosophy is based on using fresh and locally sourced produce to create truly innovative dishes.

Additionally, the Canvas Room and Gainsborough Bar are the perfect places to relax and socialise in style where guests can choose from an all-day menu and an extensive selection of drinks, including Champagnes, gins, fine wines and cocktails.

At the core of the hotel is Spa Village Bath. Bathed in natural light emanating from the glass atrium, the Bath House experience enables guests to "take the waters" in luxury, The circuit includes dipping in two natural thermal pools of varying temperatures, traditional and infrared saunas, a steam room, an ice alcove and elegant relaxation areas.

Spa Village Bath also features 11 treatment rooms which include a couple's room, a VIP Suite with private natural thermal waters, two tatami rooms designed for award-winning Asian therapies, a beauty salon and 24-hour fitness room.

The hotel pays homage to its colourful history - a modern interpretation of a classic design which will provide a meaningful and enduring contribution to the life of the city.

For the past few weeks The Gainsborough Bath Spa has been showcasing nine stunning photos of wild tigers in our lovely Chapel. On Tuesday evening, we held a reception to celebrate this special exhibition and were honoured to hear from Simon Clinton, founder of Save Wild Tigers, and international acclaimed wildlife photographer, Andy Rouse.
The photos are now on their way to London to be displayed as part of a larger exhibition in the magnificent Royal Albert Hall from 18th S...eptember – 14th October.
We hope you enjoy the video below of an interview conducted with wildlife photographer Andy Rouse at our reception on Tuesday – as he speaks about his work and the majestic creatures that are so endangered.

User

Without a doubt the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. There is nothing I could fault. Service is beyond outstanding. Rooms so comfortable and clean. Staff so friendly and attentive. I wanted for nothing from the moment I arrived to the moment we left. The spa is outstanding - a treat to have the natural thermal spa baths within the hotel and the best massage I have ever received. Do not hesitate to book here - it is worth every penny. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special.

User

What I fantastic place & could not fault the service & staff! Won’t be stayin anywhere else now when we go to bath..

User

Well I’m not sure how to word it but this place is amazing !! The food was out of this world and the staff communication was fab. Would highly recommend to everyone and we will be returning as soon as I make up a special occasion absolutely stunning xx

User

We arrived yesterday and had a very warm welcome. After going out for the afternoon, we returned to find a bottle of red wine in the room and dome chocolates. The mini-bar is complimentary and the room is spacious and clean. Breakfast is adequate, but maybe a touch on the expensive side.

The hotel is perfectly located.

User

Was only able to stay one night as it was a short stop on the way back to London. We don’t get to the UK often but have already decided next time Bath is going to be a longer stop just so we can stay at the Gainsborough. The staff was wonderful and everything about the room and spa was top notch. If you are in the area or lucky enough to live close by it is worth the trip.

User

Stayed here for a night for my birthday, and it was amazing, from the service to the food to the pool. Stunning. Will definitely be returning soon.

User

Staff are very Hands on including the manager and the service is outstanding. Spa and treatment was nice way to end your stay in Bath. Highly recommend. It was a very enjoyable stay.

User

Second stay at this amazing hotel. Having access to the private thermal spa in the morning and last thing in the evening is a wonderful benefit. Had an amazing Sunday lunch in the restaurant and the spa treatments, while on the pricier side are second to none - the best massage I've ever had and I've had many around the world. Has very close proximity to the Thermae spa and Roman Bath area with lots of shopping and great restaurants. Had an issue with the room being too hot (South facing on a sunny day), and the issue was handled promptly and efficiently. Be sure to pre-book valet parking (there is no parking at the hotel), and also be sure to map and write up your journey manually if driving - twice my gps has failed me and sent me in a loop around the hotel as the entrance is a little tricky to find, but you can easily see the way on a map. Already planning my next visit...

User

Outstanding hotel in beautiful bath! The customer service is first class and second to none. Undoubtedly one of the best hotels we have had the pleasure of spending time in! I am unsure as to why Dan moon’s restaurant does not have a Michelin Star yet.. something I am sure is on the horizon. Peaceful,Serene and relaxing spa experience.

User

I went with my boyfriend for a few nights at The Gainsborough - it was a last minute booking and it did not disappoint. The hotel itself is a glorious Georgian building with a perfect contemporary interior. The service was exceptional and in terms of the staff, it doesn’t get better and we both said that it was the best service that we’ve had in a hotel. The spa is really nice too. And the location is brilliant, right in the centre of Bath. It deserves its reputation. Would highly recommend.

User

Having had our Dublin trip Canceled by snow they were great in making us feel special for my planned proposal weekend. Brian arranged for a special end to our taster dinner with lovely flight of wine.. the ring (all be it temporary till the following day) was delivered at dessert on a lovely platter. They also extended the use of the SPA for our special weekend. Lovely service, staff and place !!

User

Great stay at the Gainsborough to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Staff were great, the Spa was just what was needed after exploring the City. Room was lovely and comfy and the breakfast set us up for the day before heading home. Will be back

User

Definitely five stars. The staff were exceptional, professional and attentive but not smothering. Perfect bed/room temperature. Location couldn't be better. The natural spa super relaxing with everything you need available (complimentary morning and evening) Breakfast was spot on. My only criticism was the buffet area was perhaps a little "cramped" with a table leg (where the bread was) slightly sticking out but everything else was immaculate. I recommend smoked haddock which was beautifully cooked and delicious. I also recommend fish dishes in general as mine were both pefect. The breakfast staff were the best I have ever come across. Superbly managed restaurant all round.

User

As usual my daughter and I had a wonderful weekend staying here. The staff were as usual welcoming and attentive which is one of the reasons we love coming back here. As ever our spa visit was perfect leaving us feeling completely revitalised. Location couldn’t be better less than a 2 minute walk from the Abbey! Highly recommend staying here.

User

An excellent five star hotel. Management and team were amazing welcoming my wife & me when celebrating our anniversary. Spa facility was very good and Dan Moon in the restaurant was excellent food for Dining. Will be coming back!

User

Amazing service from the get go. The staff can not do enough for you. The whole spa experience was amazing and the massage was one of the best I’ve had (and I’ve had them all over the world!) Thankyou to Diana in the spa for her genuine care and amazing treatment. Great location to visit Bath, would highly recommend.

User

A massive thank you to the Spa staff who made our visit so special, who went beyond the call of duty for my mum

User

Lovely hotel and very attentive service. Couple of niggles, we had to call down twice to have our luggage bought up, twice to have wine glasses brought up in order to drink the champagne in our room and then at breakfast (which was £60 for two of us), the lady delivered our hot food whilst we still had cold food so we were then juggling plates. On top of this, she asked if we wanted any sauces and then forgot as soon as she walked away. A lovely hotel but not quite perfect for the price we paid.
