We stayed here for one night. The room was very clean and comfortable. The evening meal was lovely. I had venison which was cooked perfectly. For breakfast I had the smoked haddock and poached eggs. The haddock was lovely. Would definitely stay again.

User

We first came here some 18 years ago and was blown away....came back for our honeymoon. ...wow again.....fast forward and brought the wife back for a significant birthday. ..fingers crossed .....no need to worry. ..food fantastic. ..service well in this day and age and pubs shutting left right and centre you can't expect to much but it is well above average and as a foot note the deserts are awesome. ....very good indeed if your not fussed about a standard room. Coming back soon

Today we held our daughters christening reception at the G and D and we'd just like to say a MASSIVE thank you for the amazing buffet spread. It was fantastic and so many people complimented it. It really did make the day a success, all thanks to your super chief and great service. A real credit to Kirkbymoorside! Highly recommended, will happily use again!! — with Graham Gamble.

The chef came in early to accommodate an early supper as we were heading off to a concert in the town. Three of us thoroughly enjoyed G & D Scaddock which was Scampi and Haddock with chips and peas with delicious homemade tartare sauce. One of our party had the Steak and Stilton Pie, and after sampling a bite can confirm it was absolutely delicious. Only sorry we had to dash off but we will certainly return to enjoy a leisurely three courses.

User

Stopped at the hotel to celebrate my birthday with my family and doggies. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was delicious. Surroundings and area were lovley and picturesque. We had a family emergency on the first night and the couldn't be more helpful, this continued throughout our stay. Ali was very helpful and friendly and looked after us very well. Would definitely recommend it and will definitely be returning!! X

User

Lovely pub. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The sevice was excellent the staff were all very friendly. And the full English breakfast was amazing.

User

Lovely "proper" pub. My hubby was well impressed with his pint and I was similarly impressed with the choice of red wine. Very friendly landlady and locals. Wish we could have lingered longer. We'll be back

User

Just got back from a lovely weekend away at the George and Dragon staff went out of their way to be accomodating for ourselves and our little dog Eric, nothing was too much bother for them room was cosy and comfortable and food was lovely. It was ideal place for us all to stay whilst visiting family, big thanks to everyone!

User

Initially booked a standard room for one night (standard room - attending a local wedding). Decided to increase to 2 nights at a later date (suite only available for that night) got upgraded to suite for both nights at no extra cost. Room very well appointed, clean and tidy. Safe in room. Bathroom with jacuzzi bath AND desperate shower. Large dressing table. Four poster bed, with French doors that opened out to the garden with cast iron seating & table. Landlady, lovely, welcoming and hospitable. Landlord, initially wasn't sure about BUT a lovely fella and very pleasant to chat to, and very helpful. (Point to note: if you require a taxi, be advised to source, agree price & book in advance) Alison is a credit to their team. ALL staff were lovely. Would CERTAINLY recommend. Dogs appear welcome (not in restaurant- but appear to be allowed when dining in bar area - clarification required).

User

I thoroughly enjoyed the overnight stay with breakfast and evening meal which was a competition prize. A friendly welcome from fantastic staff, a cosy atmosphere and great food. We stayed in a wonderful superior room that had lots of space and character in the converted cornmill which has kept key period features such as the beamed ceiling and hearth. Our evening meal was locally sourced gastro pub at its best with a highlight being the haggis, bacon and black pudding stack with peppercorn sauce. We followed our meal with a few drinks in the cosy public bar, seats by the open fire go quick! There is a great choice of after dinner whisky's, draught beers and wine to suit all tastes and the staff are relaxed and companionable. Breakfast before check out was another feast a freshly cooked full English or plenty of alternatives such as smoked salmon and scrambled egg. This was my 2nd trip to the George and Dragon and I will certainly be back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

User

I love the George and Dragon, food is always fantastic, amazing selection of Gin's, extremely friendly staff and best of all our dogs are also made welcomed too. Couldn't recommended highly enough.

User

Great value, nice spacious room. Warm and welcoming bar area. And excellent quality food. Will be back.

User

Fantastic place, gorgeous room and fantastic food. The staff are so very helpful and friendly, really made our weekend. Highly recommend!

User

Stayed here last weekend . Standard room was a little bit tired in decor BUT more important was the charming and friendly staff , very confortable bed and lovely breakfast .

We didnt have dinner as we were going to a wedding

but the menu looked great

Not luxurious but comfortable clean and welcoming

User

Stayed here last night ready to go to Flamingo Land today as it wasn't far away. Had an evening meal there last night and I must say we couldn't fault it and same with the breakfast this morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a family room which was very spacious with ample room but if there was a negative I would say that the decor needs updating and modernising as it was very dated.

User

Had a lovely time here, clean spacious room and a lovely breakfast, staff very friendly and welcoming! Only thing I found disappointing was evening meal menu , quite expensive and not enough choice, but what we had was very good .

User

Lovely dinner, lovely staff.

Rooms are antiquated and in desperate need of s little tlc. I booked a suite and was disappointed with the lack of luxuries. The room was very, very basic and shouldn't be marketed as a suite with a premium price tag, definately not worth the extra money.

Only 1 hand towel, cheap stained carpet, no additional pillows, a guy mowing the lawn directly outside the patio doors early Sunday morning... really what's that all about?

User

I called the George and Dragon yesterday to enquire about booking a few rooms for my wedding next June, and have to say that I have never been spoken to in such a rude manner when making a hotel enquiry.

I was told in no uncertain terms that the hotel did not want my wedding party staying, as we would "take away from the bar and restaurant business".

Previously I have gone in for the odd drink etc, but I won't be going back. I'm sure for the odd night here and there the hotel is fine, but the customer service is disgusting.
