The George Hotel

A great place with good service and friendly staff. A nice change to the standard chain and a central location with no problems for parking. A tasty cooked breakfast I always look for to trips to Penrith because of this hotel.

Everything was perfect except for breakfast. Dinner was amazing and the service excellent. We had do not disturb on our door all day and they left a back of refills on the door handle which was very nice. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was not good, the hot food was clearly all defrosted and the a couple of the servers didn't seem bothered about us.

An afternoon tea surprise for my sisters. It was fabulous, they changed one of the sandwich fillings without any extra charges,the cakes were gorgeous. The staff were all very professional. Will certainly be back xx

Visiting whilst on the coast to coast. Staff were very friendly and helpful and stored our bikes in the garage in the car park. Good food and reasonably priced

We hadn't booked so sat in the lounge area, service was very slow to the point we felt ignored in favour of those sitting in the restaurant as staff kept walking through. Appreciate restaurant is the priority but if you're also going to serve food in the lounge/bar either have dedicated staff for this or let people order at the bar - we waited half an hour after finishing our mains for someone to take our plates and order dessert. The food when it came was absolutely faultless hence the three stars, but we did almost walk out before our orders were taken so would have missed out otherwise.

Food was ok. Afternoon tea - there was too much cake! Service in bar upstairs was a bit lacking. You had to wait around for someone to serve you but otherwise the staff on the whole were pleasant enough.

Classy decoration, modern bedroom. Love the lounge. The bed is very comfy as well.

The hotel generally felt fairly luxury but not to the point of excess. It had a quite chilled demeanour. The rooms were lovely with a big double need and tidy bathroom. The bar had a decent selection and good service, as did the reception. The only point of annoyance was that their brochure listed that their sister hotel had a gym, spa, etc, and that you could get access with your key. It was only after talking with the staff that you find out it was 20 miles away. Overall fantastic experience.
