I love the beautiful views surrounding the hotel. The Tyne river and the bridge is spectacular . Breastfast was lovely.
Warning to Hadrian's path walkers - do not stop here, keep on going. Takes advantage of a nice location. Rooms are dirty, hotel is over priced and the room staff can't read the do not disturb signs, they just walk on in anyway - even though they can hear you're in there. Dinner is awful, just frozen food reheated. Breakfast is horrendous, poorly cooked food, not enough milk so you can't have a cup of tea and they run out of everything. Avoid at all costs, book a cheaper and nicer hotel down the road and use the money you saved to get a cab to and from the route!
Stopped off for afternoon tea. Sat outside overlooking the river and enjoyed a delicious tea - sandwiches, cream scones and cakes! The waiter/barman was chatty and pleasant, great service from Fran!
Arrived @6pm and checked in. Room ok but toilet door locked so could not use nor make drink. Reception came (maintenance personnel gone home) and tried to fix but had no idea what to do or what tools required. Got tools from my car and mended door. This sums up the place could be good (location excellent ) but needs work and is overpriced for quality of service and facilities. Also Stayed at Matfen Hall nearby which is much better and was cheaper.
Stayed in the premium room no.209. Room was huge with 32" LED tv. Wifi connection was rock solid but slow. Only gripes about the room was the very creaky floorboards and noisy radiator (which was solved by turning it off). Staff are MINT! Cannot praise them enough. Food is lush. Location is fantastic - overlooking the river! A big bonus is the FREE fitness facilities including the Jacuzzi & Sauna (only if you're staying at the hotel). Will definately revisit! :)
We were camping close to The George Hotel and went in for some drinks after a long day of walking. The selection of drinks was very limited and the deserts we had were average. If you fancy a drink and can face the prospect of a 15 minute walk go to the Crown Inn just up the road. We had breakfast at the hotel in the morning too. This was great! Nine pounds got you as much as you could want. Though ordering of the menu (also included) was much better quality than canteen style buffet breakfast.
In particular i enjoyed looking at their wonderful garden chess set. From the outside it looked like somewhere i would like to stay. So we did.
Lovely hotel and lovely friendly staff. Everywhere is clean and tidy. Food was so nice. Lovely location and surrounding area. Can't wait to go again.
