Sunday Carvery is ready to go

User

We stopped in last Sunday (6 adults and one baby) on the off chance after a walk along the canal. The pub was heaving, fully booked and no tables free . Rather than dismiss us the landlords ( I think )made us feel so welcome and even moved the pool table and set up another table for us from scratch. Can’t recommend highly enough beautiful food and lovely staff . It’s not easy taking a one year old out but they made it effortless. Thank you and can’t wait to come back .

User

We called in whilst walking Lucy (the dog) along the canal on Thursday, made to feel very welcome, we ordered our drinks which were bought to us as well as a bonio and a bowl of water for Lucy, our food arrived in just under 10 minutes two very full plates of lovely food, will definatley call in again, many thanks to the young ladies who served us.

User

Sunday roast, loads of choice and plenty of meat. With vedgies and roasties had no room for pudding 😋.

At £12 a head inc soft drinks ideal for families and dogs too. Friendly staff etc

User

My son and I arrived in his Canadian Canoe from around three miles away yesterday, as we were nearing the Globe, the idea of a pint of Doombar and something hot to eat kept us paddling nearer and nearer. When we arrived there was plenty of room, our pints were served quickly and in no time at all our waitress arrived to take our orders, Pork medallions in a peppercorn sauce, chips, peas, onion rings, tomato and mushrooms, we both had the same and the food was excellent. Really set us up for the cold rather windy weather during our paddle back to the car. A very good day and well worth the seemingly long canoe trip! Thank you to the staff who served us!

User

It was a great for a family Christening of my grandson on Sunday and the meal was awsome the best I have had

User

Great food, great location, lovely friendly staff. Well done .

User

Great as always!! It was daughters 11th birthday meal treat and we had a lovely meal, finished off with a dessert for my daughter courtesy of the brilliant staff! When they realised it was her birthday they were so good!! Love the place 😀

User

Friendly staff, great food, good beer! Will definitely visit again when in the area.

User

Came here with family for a birthday meal and was not disappointed.

A couple of us went for the full rack of ribs and i think i can safely say it was the best ribs i have ever had! I can see this place has had a couple bad reviews, but i cant really fault, so going by my experience i would give it 5 stars!

Go for the ribs! you wont be disappointed!!!

User

User

User

Amazing food and very good service. Very polite and friendly staff.

User

A very lovely place to eat and drink. Food arrived very quickly and waiting staff checked to see if the steaks were cooked to our liking. Front of house very friendly and super hardworking. Definitely recommend this place and will definitely come again

User

Shared a very enjoyable evening with good friends. The food was plenty, with the guality good, but some of the ribs were a little over cooked. The service was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful staff making the evening a wonderful success. As a visitor from Canada 🇨🇦 I shall pass on a very good reccomendation to people that a visit here would be very highly suggested. Thank you to the management and staff.

User

Excellent food, good beers & good service. Pity it’s only a one night stopover

User

Service was quite slow but it was a busy night.

Good size portions of food and a really good choice on menu.

Food was okay, could have been better.

I had the Brie and cranberry Wellington, which was nice but a little dry and was really complimented by the chips and peas it's served with.

Tried the scampi which was lovely as was the spit roast and chicken.

My grandad had the gammon which was over done and really charred.

I’ve been frequenting The Globe for years and have always been eager to recommend the place to others, I’ve even thanked staff and sent complimentary emails before. Unfortunately my visit last week left me considering not returning...

After a lovely bike ride along the canal from Tiverton, my friend and I went to purchase two drinks, one single gin and one double gin with slimline tonics - the price tag came to an almighty £17.80!!! When I questioned this astronomical cost, I was told it was a ‘speciality’ gin. At the same time, I asked to order some bread and olives, only to be told there was a wait on food. “For bread and olives?!” I quizzed, apparently so. I asked roughly how long the wait would be and was told that they couldn’t possibly find that out, as it would require entering the kitchen! In the end I said not to bother.

What adds to the annoyance is that the football was being aired that evening and the premises had just supplied viewers with free nibbles! I was a paying customer and the staff couldn’t even be bothered to find out how long I’d have to wait for bread and olives.

Next bike ride, my friend and I will be packing our own gin with a side order of bread and olives...

I was looking forward to my meal here as having been 3 times before for various occasions, this time we were meeting friends. I ordered a portion of mussels to start with which arrived in a fair time, however I had to eventually send them back as (I don't know how) they seemed to be over cooked and under cooked at the same time. They were stringy, difficult to get out of the shell and very hard to open.

For my mains I ordered a chicken Caesar salad, garlic bread and a portion of chips. Now I don't completely blame The Globe for this but why do a lot of pubs/restaurants try to reinvent the Caesar salad? It's very simple, Romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan, sauce. If you want to add tomatoes, cucumber, some other leaves then I'm not going to argue, but where was the Romaine and the sauce? The chicken was dry and had what seemed to be bits of burning on it and it was not dressed at all well, just a splash of sauce on top. As I didn't want to send another dish back I just left it. Oh the garlic bread arrived late and my order of chips was not written down.

And all night we were attacked by flies.

Now, I understand that they were very busy but I would rather wait for good food rather than get something that is going to be sent back.

I appreciate the owner coming over to discuss the problem with the mussels and remove from the final bill

The staff and service was good as usual.

At the start of the service I asked about the burger buns and was there an alternative to a Brioche bun? No. Brioche is an alternative bun! Not a replacement for a proper burger bun! Another fad that many places seemed to have adopted.

Would I return? Jury is out!

User

Very poor food quality and customer service.

My partner ordered battered cod and chips, and in the first bite found that it contained five large bones.

He checked the rest of the dish and found many more, so it wasn't filleted or remotely edible.

We pointed this out to the waitress who promptly told us 'yes, it says on the menu that it contains bones'...

She then produced a menu where she pointed out the 'may contain bones' warning on the menu.

We were both taken aback by this, as of course the odd bone missed by the fishmonger or chef is understandable, but it doent normally mean that the whole blinking fish is unfilleted!

I suggested that this was misleading, and 'served on the bone' might be a more accurate statement than 'may contain bones'.

We were asked if we would like to order anything else, and as I had almost finished my meal we thought it best to cut our losses and leave with a refund.

The senior waitress/manager then went to ask the chef if this was usual, and found out if the meal could be refunded.

When she returned we were really taken aback by her response, as it is so unprofessional.

'It's not my problem, or the chefs problem. It's the suppliers problem, as they send us the fish like that, with the bones in...'

Sorry... What?!?!

It is absolutely YOUR problem, as you are the staff and establishment serving inedible food.

If your supplier sent you gone off meat, and you decided to serve that to a customer, would that be the suppliers fault or yours?

Or perhaps the cod's fault for having bones in the first place?

Oh.. and we left short from the refund.

Admittedly the 'refund situation' was made more complicated by me changing my mind on the order earlier in the meal, but I didn't leave with all of the money owed to me.

(Total order came to £30.85 but I was charged £32.85. I pointed this out, and then asked to change one course from a £6.95 meal to a £8.95 meal, and cancel something I ordered for £7.95 - so I was owed £7.95.

The cod refund was an additional £10.95 on top of this.

... But the total I was refunded was £17something.

Not a massive deal, but added to the overall disappointing experience.

There were also flies everywhere, and we spent the meal swatting them away.
