The Golden Lion Hotel

I urge anyone who is thinking about working for the golden lion hotel in maryport not to they treat the staff absolutely appalling the manager Barrie cowell is a lier and has sacked 3people in three weeks since taking over and threatened other's he has just sat with the owner lieing he tries to get you working on your day's off and then says ur sacked when u can't

Food is fabulous , very clean and well managed. Staff are first class

We stopped in for Lunch in all our Boots and walking gear our third visit,we discovered it a few years ago when staying in Carlisle, consistently the food is well cooked and lovely

Friendly staff and brilliant meals including breakfast. Rooms are very clean and the bed is so comfy had a great sleep. Local people are very friendly. Would recommend as you are not far from sea and nice walks.

A nice friendly place. Good value for money. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit either for a stay or for good good cooked and prepared by first class chefs and served by superb staff.
I stayed here for 8 weeks when my home was flooded. During this time they all including the regulars were just great.

Stayed in hotel with my husband and two young children, every staff member was friendly and always smiling. Hotel is spotless, kids loved they're bunk beds in the room. Breakfast was lovely and food in bar great too and reasonable priced. Noise from other room wasn't good though as walls very thin and everything can be heard from next room. When checking out we were told we hadn't paid for room.... We had... They had then charged twice and we had to try and find email they had sent us two months before confirming this. Was a bit disappointing after the good stay we had

I stayed in a single room for one night. The room itself was perfectly nice. Clean and simply decorated. The bed really could have been better. It was very squeaky and the mattress was lumpy and badly needs replaced.

My room had a small vestibule style area with a motion sensor light. However this went off every time I moved in bed resulting in a loud click and a lot of light (even with the door closed).

I will mention if you're taking a car that the car park is a nightmare, and I did struggle to get my car into any of the spaces available. Be prepared to park on the street.

On a positive note the staff were very friendly and professional. The breakfast in the morning was lovely and arrived very quickly. The bar was also very reasonably priced.
