The Governing Council Of The Cat Fancy Description

The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy registers pedigree cats and kittens; grants prefixes to breeders; licenses cat shows across the UK and hosts the annual GCCF Supreme Cat Show held at the NEC, Birmingham each November. There is also a very important welfare element that is administered through the many affiliated cat clubs, ensuring cats are cared for and bred responsibly.

SUPREME SHOW
You still have time to offer sponsorship for the Supreme Show.
It could be in the form of your prefix, or in memory of an individual or a cat.
... It would be a nice way for cats which have done well at previous Supreme Shows to be recognised and acknowledged?
Details of your sponsorship must be with the Show Manager by midnight on Sunday 7th October.

LUCY'S LAW
The Government announced yesterday that they plan to introduce legislation (called 'Lucy's Law') to ban the sale of puppies and kittens through a third party agent, this means pet shops or pet dealers. The detail of this legislation has not yet been published but once introduced it should have no impact on breeders who register with GCCF as they sell the kittens they breed directly to a new owner, and not to a pet shop or animal dealer.
Reports on the new legisl...ation have also mentioned the fact that licensed dog breeders may or will be asked to quote their license number in adverts placed on-line or elsewhere. This does not apply to most cat breeders as they remain defined as hobby breeders if not operating a commercial cat breeding business and so do not require a licence from the 1st October 2018, when new animal licensing legislation comes into effect.
Media reports on ‘Lucy’s Law’ have stated that the intention is to ban puppy and kitten farming which is correct, but it should not be forgotten that dog and cat breeding are covered by different rules (schedules) within the new legislation. Once there is further information on the detail of exactly how the new proposal will regulate advertising an update will be given.

Can you help? The GCCF Year Book, which will incorporate the Supreme Catalogue is currently being compiled.
It will feature all the current breeds recognised by the GCCF, and this is where you can help and get involved.
We’re looking for interesting / fun / facts / anecdotes - for ALL the breeds. To give an example “Egyptian Maus have the fastest land speed of all domestic cats.” “Siamese are known to be very vocal and exceptionally inquisitive.” “Selkirk Rex likes having... their tummy tickled and will regularly expose their tummies to their humans.” “Burmese cats chirp when they’re happy.”
A list of all contributors will be published in the back of the Year Book. Please give us your interesting / fun / facts / anecdotes below:
UPDATE: Many thanks for all your anecdotes, this post is now closed as far as addition additional material for the GCCF Supreme Year Book 2018 goes, but you can still discuss your breeds for fun here, should you feel like it:-)

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to the current low staff levels, there will be a voicemail service only on the telephone for the next few weeks. All messages will be picked up on a daily basis and answered the same day if possible; the situation will be reviewed on a regular basis. New staff are due to join us at the beginning of July, and as soon as they are familiar with GCCF processes, the phones will be re-introduced gradually. Thank you for your patience.

WARNING
We have been made aware of a letter being sent to a breeder, purporting to be on GCCF headed notepaper and sent from the office. This letter indicates that the breeder will receive a visit from a GCCF representative. This was NOT sent from the GCCF. Anyone receiving a letter indicating that they should expect a visit must not admit anyone who says they represent GCCF. If you have any concerns you should contact your local Police.

I really enjoy working for the GCCF. They seem to really value their employees, as well as caring so much about the welfare of the cats. It's a fascinating place to work for, and all the people involved are very knowledgeable, intelligent, and caring.

The customers too! It's lovely to meet people at shows, and hear their own experiences with the GCCF. All GCCF Breeders I have met are very keen to keep their cats happy & healthy.

The organisation seems to be moving in a really good direction - headed into the future. I am really honoured to be a part of that transition.

User

Can't thank you enough. Very helpful staff and super fast import registration. Xx

Really unhappy with the outcome of questions/advice I asked as a pet owner regarding PKD. My Persian cat who died from cysts on kidneys aged 7 which led me to test my 2 other Persians I owe, 1 is positive and 1 is negative. The rules around PKD testing needs to be enforced by GCCF and GCCFI.

User

I should give one star but out of politeness will give 2. Once again GCCF proved to me on Supreme show that it neglects any other ragdolls than seal and blue points. It's not possible to win anything here having lilacs and cholocolates or any other colours and patterns cats even if they are much more supreme in Standard of points than their rivals blue and seals. Those cats even with outstanding pedigree lines with many international champions, grands olimpics etc are pushed aside and are not getting deserved attention by judges even if among breeders and visitors they are the most loved. It is very disappointing and unprofessional. Sadly need to say that it is TOO much favouritism in this place, same cats wining over and over, new coming breeders can't go through old very know and established ones even with much better cats. Judges has cats shown at shows too with is unprofessional and it should be banned. They all know each other and that's affecting how the cats are jodged they are showing to much affection towards breeders and cats they know. Not mention that some of the classes has been cancelled without any explanation people should get their money back in this case. Come on GCCF step up the game and bring back fun and fairness to the exhibitions.

User

Gccf need to adopt a common sense approach and be more lenient when when exhibitors are faced with registration issues. Is it fair to cancel my supreme show entry because you don't have one document that would have been posted to you straight away.???????

User

Thought this was a page about cats, The main photo is of men and a background advert saying sureflaps! lol this page creases me up. Gala day, next they will be doing knitting and bingo. They wouldn't let me rate a zero, so 1 star out of 5!

User

Mums always preferred TICA for their focus on positivity. GCCF is too negative and stuck in the past. Their shows are lacking and the management structure they care little about anything other than making money now they are classified as a business. I used to think the GCCF was the number one club, but I have to say having experienced TICA and Fife they are certainly last in my books from what ive seen and heard. They simply do not care or support their breeders.
