The Greeks, The Romans And Us: Classics At Cambridge Description

“Classics” is the study of the Greek and Roman cultures in the broadest sense.

At Cambridge we study Greek and Latin language, literature, philosophy, ancient history, art and archaeology and we have a special interest in how those subjects fit together in our interdisciplinary approach.

We welcome applications from all students. Our unique 4-year course allows you to start Classics here without any background in Greek or Latin and leave with the same degree as our 3-year students who come with Latin and /or Greek A-Levels.

Our course has been rated the top Classics course in the country every year from 2012-2015 by The Guardian.

Funding opportunities for postgraduate study in the Faculty of Classics at Cambridge
In addition to the many funding opportunities available for postgraduate study at Cambridge through the University's Graduate Funding Competition (including Cambridge Trust, Gates Cambridge, Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP), the Faculty of Classics is itself able to offer funding to both MPhil and PhD students. Applicants who apply by January 3rd 2019 are automatically considered for the award...s for which they are eligible, including broader University awards. This year the Faculty is particularly pleased to offer the following:
a) an MPhil Studentship, funded by the School of Arts and Humanities (to the value of a year's fees at the Home/EU rate plus the standard UKRI-level maintenance award, pro-rated for the period of an MPhil)
b) Buckley Scholarships Through the kindness of Brian Buckley, three or more Buckley Scholarships, which offer funding for MPhil or PhD research.
c) Walston Studentship
This scholarship provides full support to an MPhil or PhD student working on classical archaeology, or in the art or architecture of ancient Greece. The student's research should normally involve travel or residence in Greek lands for a period of not less than three months.
d) Hellenic College Trust Studentship
Through the kindness of the Hellenic College Trust, this generously funded studentship, covering fees and maintenance, is awarded to a student taking the MPhil. The student must be someone normally resident in Greece who demonstrates a commitment/particular interest in classical Greek studies and who under normal circumstances could not afford to study at the university without bursarial support.
e) Salisbury Studentship
This scholarship provides part support to an MPhil or PhD student working on British archaeology.
f) John Killen Scholarship
This part studentship (courtesy of Jesus College) is for an MPhil student. Preference may be given to someone working in Mycenaean studies.
