The Green Man

First time visiting for many years. Meal portions small, but we were expecting a pub meal, this is more fine dining. Nice atmosphere, staff very good.

. Party of 8 waited quite a while for starters. Two wrong orders for mains. Eventually arrived after the remainder of the party had finished theirs. Table not cleared. Such a long wait for desserts two couldn't wait any longer and had to cancel. Such a shame to spoil what could have been lovely.

SLOW. Very slow. I've been to this pub many times over the years for a drink, and I've always enjoyed coming here. It's a beautiful old building. So I was looking forward to my first time eating here. I was thoroughly let down. What a shame, a pub and restaurant that on the surface is so lovely - it really has the potential to be a fantastic place, if only the food and service weren't so lacking. We were seated quite quickly, despite not having booked. So far so good. Our table was bright and in a reasonably good position. Fine. We ordered a couple glasses of wine to kick things off. They were a bit slow to arrive - not disastrously slow, but it was just a couple of small glasses of wine and the place wasn't hugely busy, so a bit odd. But the starters took probably 20-25 minutes. I asked for a member of staff to check on the food, and they arrived with in a couple minutes. Why were they so quick in arriving after I'd asked about them? Was that just coincidence, or had they been sat in the kitchen plated up and just forgotten about? Our mains seemed to take even longer, perhaps 30-35 minutes. If we had been warned beforehand that things were running a bit slow, we would have been fine with this length of time. But it just seemed like we had been forgotten about. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be waiting a long time for food too. The wait might have been totally fine if the food had been amazing. Great food is sometimes worth waiting for. But it wasn't. My squid starter was just really bland. And my chicken burger was just distinctly underwhelming - not a gourmet dish traditionally, I realize, but it was just very basic and there wasn't much of it. Owners - you have a beautiful pub and restaurant, don't lose the opportunity to have a truly fantastic place. Shake things up in the kitchen!

Always great food. Can take a little while if in the barn at the back, but this creates the chance for a really relaxed meal without worrying they are trying to turn your table. Food in the bar is fast if you are in a rush. Outside is a lovely sun trap for afternoon and evening drinks.

Nice venue, mostly good food but would stay away from the burgers

We all really enjoyed our meals. The pizza is particularly good. Great service and child friendly

5 of us dined here roughly two weeks ago and the food was very nice. Two of us had steaks which where reasonably priced, tasty and nice cuts of meat. They also catered really well for my young niece and the staff were cheerful and friendly. There is a nice selection of food on the menu and ales to choose from. It was the first time eating here in a few years as had a bad experience in the past but whatever changes have been done have made a huge difference. Will definitely be returning.

I visited the Green Man pub with my partner this evening and the building and staff were fine. However, the menu is pricey for pub grub. The Stilton and broccoli soup was insipid but that was not the only complaint. After a long wait the main course arrived. I asked for my steak to be medium. It was rare. My partner's beef burger was burnt and looked as if it had been under the grill for a long time. To be fair ,we were offered a replacement but we declined and left, only being charged for our drinks.
