About The Hallé

Manchester's orchestra since 1858, founded by Sir Charles Hallé, resident at The Bridgewater Hall.

The Hallé Description

Charles Hallé's vision was that everyone, regardless of wealth or background should be able to access the very finest orchestral music and over 150 years later this vision underpins all our work, on and off the concert platform.

Following the successful premiere of John Casken's Oboe Concerto in 2014, the series of commissions for Hallé wind soloists continues with 'The Madonna of Silence', written for the Hallé’s Principal Trombone, Katy Jones. John Casken’s craftsmanship, musical imagination and mastery of instrumental writing will doubtlessly thrill and inspire. The world premiere of the work, together with performances of Mozart Symphony No.31 and Prokofiev Symphony No.5 will be conducted by Jamie Phillips, former Hallé Assistant Conductor.
Thursday 28 February at The Bridgewater Hall.

The Hallé’s Principal Clarinet Sergio Castelló López is soloist in Mozart’s serene concerto joined by Carlos Miguel Prieto, conductor. It was written for Anton Stadler, hugely respected despite Mozart’s nickname for him: ‘old redcurrant face’. The concerto was tailored to exploit Stadler’s virtuosity, celebrated singing tone and love of the instrument’s rich lower register.

We attended the Now Hear This concert at The Concert Hall in Nottingham again yesterday for about the 5th year running - wonderful as always. So great to see the kids being enthused (and big thumbs up to Tom for stepping into the breach when Jonathan was delayed yesterday!). Sadly next year will be our last one as my daughter will be too old to carry on joining in :(.

User

Was awesome, magical. To see all those musicians doing their thing to make a beautiful sound was fantastic.

Tonight's concert - La Damnation de Faust - brilliant and charged with emotion. Sir Mark and the Halle delivered a memorable performance, and I was unexpectedly impressed with the acoustics (but not the seats!) of the Usher Hall. Amazing!

Came to see the "heroes of the silver screen" night on 29th of December. What a fantastic first experience of a live orchestra. I was blown away by how good it was. Loved every moment, and would recommend it to anybody.

User

An electrifying performance of the first two acts of Siegfried. Probably the best rendition of this I have ever seen, anywhere. Looking forward to Act III tomorrow and, an added bonus, none of Castorf’s crocodiles.

Brilliant use of the orchestra members by Siegfried’s side. Gobsmackingly good. Thank you

User

Always amazing, always thoroughly engaging. Never had any desire to see an orchestra live before I saw the Halle, now, I am thoroughly hooked.
