About The Hawkins Arms

A traditional pub with a great restaurant. Where you can savour real ales and good food in a relaxed environment.

The Hawkins Arms Description

A traditional pub with a great restaurant. Whether you’re just popping in for a drink, or dining from our extensive freshly-prepared menu, a warm welcome awaits everyone.

The Hawkins Arms is an historic coaching inn and one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall situated on the old highway from London to Land’s End. Originally, the pub was called ‘The Half Moon’ but in the 19th century was renamed ‘Hawkins Arms’ to honour west country Elizabethan seafarer, Sir Richard Hawkins, nephew of Sir Francis Drake and a commander in Drake’s fleet fighting against the Spanish Armada.

Owners Adam and Alex are justifiably proud of their homely, family-friendly ‘Free House’ pub, where you can savour real ales and good food in a relaxed environment – which during the winter months includes a real fire burning away.

Dear All

It's been a while. We have spent the last few months bedding in the new extension and increasing our Bed & Breakfast facilities, the next part of the project will be the continued expansion of the B & B rooms and improving the ‘kerb appeal’ of the place once trade again picks up after this winter.
...
Many thanks to you all for your continued support and patronage, without which none of this would be possible.

This New Year’s Eve we have got the Ocean Blue Reunion with Tini Major on lead vocals. So pop in eat and be merry, or just be merry. Our letter theme for those that like to dress up is The Letter C. Plenty to work with there!

Adam, Alex and the team.

Received this last week. Find it very sad and a touch pathetic that rather than talking to us this local went to all this trouble and they are a dog owner as well. So all be extra vigilant though to be honest I think if it had been any dog other than Eddy then the repose wouidn't have been so vindictive. Any other issues from anybody regarding Eddy please feel free to discuss them with me. Eddy will in furture be tied up when outside.

Hello Everyone
A lot is happening here in your village pub. The restaurant extension is taking shape and we aim to be properly open for Easter, fingers crossed, which means we can then provided a 'snug' area again around the fire place and some comfortable areas for people to just have drinks as well. Also another B & B en-suite room is taking shape and should be also open around Easter time.
Right now we have our Valentines menu available to view on the website and some hard... copies behind the bar, then on Saturday 17th the quiz is on, kindly hosted by last months winners 'Just The 4 of Us'.
On a sadder note, our Head Chef, Steve (Pee Wee) has decided to leave us and catering to pursue a life away from the hospitality world. We wish him well in this new chapter of his life and thank him for all his hard work and dedication in helping making this place what it is today. We are now actively searching for a worthy successor. Watch this space.
See you all soon

Hi fellow beings
The clocks have gone back and now thanks to modern technology that is stressful in my world! How can you enjoy that extra hour in bed when your not sure if you've had it or not? Which clocks auto adjust and which don't. I went to bed after hunting out an old wind up time piece which I knew wouldn't, couldn't and didn't auto adjust and let the rest do there thing.
The extension is inching along and will be ready in the new year as will another letting room wit...h en suite.
Last months quiz night hosted by a lonely David Moses was a whimper, so we decided to postpone it until this month and will run it on Saturday 18th November. Hopefully it will be better supported or it will become another memory like paper money, physical interaction between kids and their surroundings and in my case hair!
Our wine list is going to have a revamp over the winter, so if there are any types of wine you would like to see or any that are not up to scratch then please let us know. A 'meatier' Merlot has already been suggested.
We are having Ocean Blue playing here on Saturday December 9th. They have some new material to try out, so please come on in. Your landlord will not be harassing the band this time but will stay tucked away behind the bar.
Christmas day is now full, though we still have a few dates for those office parties, menu can be found on the web site under the restaurant header.
Hope to see you all soon.

Remember party time here this Saturday evening till late. Band, DJ and hog roast.

User

Hello all
I have reached 50, my body knows it has, my brain can't believe it has, my eyesight and mirrors confirms I have. I have officially reached middle age and thus plan on Saturday 23rd September to go into complete denial for 24 hours. Embarrass my children, embarrass my self and bring into question what on earth my remarkable wife Alex ever saw in me! Yes, I'm having a party. A marquee is going up in the car park, there is a band playing and a DJ. There will be nibble...s and an outside bar very reasonably priced.
Rod at Polstain Farm has very kindly opened up his camping field for my friends from afar to camp that weekend and on Sunday we will have a hog roast to aid any hangovers. It will be loud, it will go on till late (1am). But I is my 50th. If this sounds like your kind of thing please come along, if this doesn't sound like your kind of thing, then also please come along, get out of that 'comfort zone' and have some fun. This is a chance for Zelah to party, our old friends to party and our customers / patrons / new friends to party. SEE YOU HERE.
Any questions or concerns please get in touch with me.
Thank you
Adam Your 'old' Landlord
